I competed in the chess.com Titled Tuesday Blitz yesterday, and had a crazy Sicilian Defense variation against GM @viditchess from India. He streams here on RU-vid, usually with Samay Raina, Anish Giri, and others.

As you keep playing chess more and more things become automatic and don’t require as much thought. Levy has seen millions of different positions, been surprised by his opponent a million times, hung a million pieces, and seen a million patterns, and it’s obvious he reflects on his mistakes. When you’re as good as him you don’t make silly blunders anymore, as basics like that have become second nature. This way he can fully focus on ideas, strategies and tactics, and not waste mental energy on anything else. It sounds pretty obvious when you say it out loud, but with time comes wisdom and with repetition comes autonomy. But then again, he’s also a very intelligent person, which doesn’t hurt his chess prowess. Teaching is also incredibly beneficial in improving.

@@wicked5999 Nice words. Makes sense and gives me hope. Chess is truly an amazing game and guys like Levy makes it even better 😊
@wicked5999
@wicked5999 3 года назад
@ I agree, Levy is great :) Arguably, the most important factor in skill development is also the easiest to forget, and that is to make a conscious effort to analyze and reflect when things go wrong, but also when things go right. Painful as it is, along with fun we must endure boring practise and mentally taxing thought and analysis to improve. Otherwise, one might feel stuck or perhaps develop a sense of inability to grow. Becoming skillful at anything is uncomfortable, and I think that if it weren’t so it wouldn’t be as satisfying to notice progression. Also, good luck with your chess!

Am 600 and there's a 1400 in class. Guy decided to fry my liver once I said I could defend somewhat well against wayward queen (#nelson). Well, material wise the game was always equal, and then I calculated a trade that gave me an extra bishop and amazingly, he played it. I was so nervous when he took that I thought for about 3 minutes tryna calculate any source of play from his material, found none, and later understood he just blundered it. We came into a 2 rook vs 2 rook endgame, I was up 3 pawns but knew they would die pretty quickly and I was worried about playing a long endgame against this guy and so I just shuffled around with my rooks (1-2 move threats), took a few pawns etc. His position was incredibly resilient but I could maintain my bishop advantage whilst taking pawns. I would sack pieces for enough pawns against him if he didn't have much material. About like 20 more moves, I was getting tired and I calculated a way to draw the game by insufficient material: king and bishop for me as black while king for white. Well my most intense yet a game am very proud of. This is not necessarily huge, because the wayward queen or Nelson opening is trash Edit: I drawed the game as both sides didn't have any progress, so no winning chances. He thought he would win for sure. He was smiling when I drawed the game. Also yeah, it happens to me too (to the OP). I was completely winning and it was even mate against this 1400 guy (he agreed to play without queen) but still thought for like 5 mins and he was very annoyed.

What an exiting tactical game! Thanks for sharing. By the way, I'm almost fluent in Danish and your pronunciation of "Bjerre" sounded fine to me (except for the r-sound which should be uvular, but it's a bit difficult to get right). Sometimes you'd hear the vowel in the end, sometimes not. Depends on the dialect or something.

Levy sounds so happy beating a super GM like Vidit! Maybe it is because the game was a tactical battle. Your heart is beating so fast, you are not sure if you saw every tactic. But as long as u see more tactics that your opponent, u end up winning. Bh6+! and c7! were two great moves.
