There are easier ways. It's not that hard but it does take practice. He uses way too much tension when wrapping and that made it harder on him and it made the final product not be as smooth as it could have been. There are other methods online that are much easier. I tie it in my kayak and I can do it without having to load my kayak into my truck first. LOL
Good stuff, nice presentation! One method I use to tension the line is to tie a loop in the end and hook it on the end of my belt outside the buckle. That way both my hands are 100% free. Then slip the loop off. Just prop the rod against anything.
Not gonna go thru my microguide cause I don't have a rod with them on it. Never thought they were necessary . My rods have always cast good enough for me without microguides.
If you use the rod for tension by leaning it then you should be able to tie it under 2 minutes probably 1 with practice and have it finished with a rizzutto finish and be fishing.
I fish small creeks and rivers for smallies and spots. I typically use 30lb braid with 3 foot of mono of 20-30lb because of rocks and stumps. The FG and Alberto are my go to knots. FG knot takes maybe a minute and a half to tie.
I use a Alberto knot with a couple less wraps and works fine for me using micro guides. But if you have enough patients for the FG knot more power to ya.
big problem for me with micro guides is that they are so small and prone to breaking at the guide foot. It has happened 3 times in two years. Although I can repair them with the materials I have on hand, they are really hard to wrap and finish off.
I learned the double uni from you and it's so easy. I understand why you changed your mind but what a pain this knot is! Your the best but I'm disappointed....lol
