After crashing through the jump, you could literally see him thinking, Dang, that smarted! Don't want to that again!! But your confidence building is showing. Dali is improving day by day. Slow but steady will get you what you want them to do. Kahl was amazing, once you put up the second half of the grid, you could see he was being slightly challenged by it, but was enjoying his job at the same time. Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.
Just WOW! Kahl is such a pro. Nice lead changes. Dali is such a lovely mover. It was fun to watch him figure out how to coordinate his tall body over the grid. You should be incredibly proud at how confident these boys are. You are one great trainer!🙌❤
Loved seeing the difference between Khal and Dali in the same vid! They both move so beautifully. Dali reminds me so much more of Fiona in his movements. What a difference in his jump after he knocked it! His jump was soooo round - so clever how he was working things out for himself. Highly respect and admire your riding! 🐴❤️
This is so interesting!I am really excited because shows might start up soon!I love this video Holly!I hope anyone who sees this is safe and well and has a great rest of day!!Thanks for another interesting video Holly.🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
Ive always found these type of videos explaining horse training so very interesting as I have no actual proper training with jumping due to unexperienced coaches around my area, if i ever will be able to have free hand at trying to improve on my own someday, ill be sure to try this exercise(along with others youve shown on the channel) i think youre really a great rider Holly, id love to have someone like you as my coach! keep up the good work with the horses!
Aw Dali was really trying so hard, especially after he knocked the 2nd fence. Just shows how much he really trusts that you know his abilities. It shows the confidence building you've been working on with him throughout his training. A credit to you he is 😊 And Khal looking super 💕
This was so cool to see Dali learning in real time. I really saw what you’re talking about how a flip switched where he learned he needs to try and make a better effort. It’s my dream to one day get to train a young horse!!
I think you have two descriptions for different videos in the description. Any way. Been following your channel for a while now, it is so fun to see the horses progress, it really shows that you are a great trainer. Dali and Khal did great! Congrats on being a vet btw! :D
The boys are both just doing so well !! It’s easy to forget how young they are, especially Dali !! Look forward to their next schooling vid 😊👌🏻 PS loving these gymnastic/training exercises 👏🏻🥰
Just wanted to add my Congratulations on the news that Fiona is in foal as well as Welbeck. Your going to have a busy spring next year!! Congratulations again, Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.
Such a good video ❤️ Although I would have loved having videos of the fist attempts with Khal right next to the lasts ones (on the same image like a parallel) when you where explaining the changes between the beginning and the end, I think it could help us really understand your feeling ! Maybe a idea for a next video? 😊
could u maybe do a video or something like that on how to get horses fitter quick? and also like what to do everyday in the week that will make them loose weight etc and how to build up lots of toppling and muscle? xx
To be honest there’s no quick way to make a horse loose weight and get fit. If you rush it, then you’re very likely to cause an injury. You’ve got to take it slow and steady and gradually increase the work load :)
Hi holly ik u might not see this but let’s give it a go. I’m leasing this five year old named Cleo. He’s a lovely pony and has great pontential but I’ve noticed that he’s quite dead to the leg. Do you have any tips on how to fix that problem😌
Make sure you aren’t keeping your leg on. With a horse that is unresponsive to the leg, think of riding with your leg off. A quick pressure or squeeze and as soon as he responds take your leg off. You may need to hold a stick at first for reinforcement, but once Cleo learns that he can’t lean on your leg or rely on you to push/hold him along he will become more responsive. Groundwork will also help. You can ask Cleo to move sideways with your hand by pressing him where your leg would be. Same idea with a quick pressure and expecting a response. On the ground you can also use your hand on the lead to show where you want him to go and that you want him to move away from pressure once it is applied, but in a relaxed way. Lastly, you can try to incorporate things that get Cleo excited into your rides. For example, pole works or at least having obstacles in the arena wakes my horse up and he gets excited to work with me. Hope this helps!
Im actually early for the first time ever and I have no clue what to comment😂 Love your channel/ videos...youre an amazing rider and your horses are so awesome!!!!!❤️🐴
To be honest, I don’t really have a method of teaching them. I just work on the canter until the horse is balanced and strong and then they start doing the changes themselves around courses etc. And then at that stage, I add a cue :)
This won’t be super accurate as my stride might be longer or shorter than yours, but in my strides, the pole to cross pole is 2 strides, and then the cross pole to pole, pole to vertical and vertical to pole are all 3 strides (the last one is a little bit longer at first so the horse doesn’t land on the pole accidentally)
Are Khal & Dali 1/2 brothers? They're both such gorgeous horse & movers. I love how Khal is so effortless (looking) with his lead changes! Do you think Dali will put on any more height? I had a 3yo ottb that stood 17.3
dali has such a powerful and balanced canter for a youngster, i can’t image what it feels like! fingers crossed your next home bred is a mare, a string of these guys would sell like hot cakes 🙃
I think both boys did really well in their training exercises!! Dali was getting the hang of it once you raised it up for him and he got more round at the end. What a smart boy! Ps. Is your dad still riding Fiona ??
hey there! How do you get your horses in such a nice frame like what is your training method??! cause i'm having some trouble with getting my 5 yo in a good outline..
This goes out to anyone: I need some advice! I’m about to start loaning this 16.1hh mare who is very overweight and hasn’t been ridden in over 6 months. I really need advice on how I could get her to loose weight and get her fit again! Any exercises or just anything would be extremely helpful! Thank you!!
I would suggest talking to a vet to rule out any pre-existing health conditions and to help you build up a safe plan to get fit again. Maybe a change in her diet too.
Hmm, I would walk with her (by hand), long walks in the forest for example in terrain where she has to use her muscles more to get over them, logs etc. Maybe first just walk on plain roads and then increase the workload with walking before you do the same thing when riding :)
Try practicing your jumping position when you’re walking and trotting around. If you practice holding it, you’ll building up your strength so it’ll be easier when you’re jumping :)
