at 5:02 I accidentally went the wrong way. Everyone makes mistakes :) clicker training is essential for more stubborn breeds like dachshunds that get bored quickly. My show dogs and trick dogs are trained both disciplines with clickers!
@@PeachiiWubs I can’t do dumb I’m sorry The back problems and leg problems theses Dogs endure is horrific To continue breeding them is so cruel That’s MY DEAL
@@mj4173 I have a 15 year old dachshund with absolutely no mobility problems. As long as you accommodate for their needs they can live long, healthy, happy lives
This is wonderful! My wife and I had two wonderful little dachshunds for sixteen years, who both sadly passed in 2019 nine months apart. We are just now expecting to take our next little doxie into our lives in just a few weeks once he is ready to go home. This time around, we are committed to training our little friend, and your video gives us hope that we can indeed do this. Thank you again so much for your content!
I have a multi shihtzu pug, that snores like a bison, and a miniature dachshund. I’ve spoiled them so bad, I’ve become a butler for two 4 legged stomachs. They are very good girls and very sweet.
I’m 53 and never had a dog so don’t know much. However, my 18 yr old son recently got a Daschhund puppy and it’s just fantastic. It’s totally opened my eyes to dog life, so full of love and fun. It’s now 1 year old and so easy to manage and live with. What a beautiful dog these are 👍
We had a Mimi doxie growing up. He was adorable! I'm getting ready to get one for my grown up self. Love. Love. Them. They have the absolute best personalities!
Minor nitpick: Correct spelling is Dachshund, not Daschhund. It's pronounced somewhat like "dax hoond", there's no "dash" in there. Dachs = German for badger Hund = German for dog
@@MrGrumpyGills I actually had a vet assistant say to me "Do you mean a "dash" hound when making our pups first visit appt. I'm in Canada and find many people calling them "dash" hounds. Drives me bananas!
I wish I could have seen your videos before my 2 Doxies passed away 2 years ago Jasmine was 17 & 6 years ago Bailee was 16. Unfortunately I still cry all the time bc I miss them so much. ❤️
OMG this Doxie and you are frickin' adorable! Great, educational video on utilizing clicker training. We lost our long-haired mini Doxie that we had for 11 years just this past December. She was a sweet soul (Our daughter who was 6 at the time named her Sweetie, which turned out to be very apt). She loved everyone; even people she never met. And to this "MJ" character who seems ridiculously, overly affronted by people who give their hearts to a dachshund; most canines have health risks. Go shake your fist at the clouds.
I'm sorry for your loss. I had to put my long-haired dachshund mini down last April. She got stomatitis even though she had her teeth cleaned yearly. I still miss her today but I did get another puppy just recently period seems life have forgotten how hard it is especially when they Bite
I think I see the benefit of the clicker. I am going to watch more of your videos - they are very helpful. I have been trying to train my Elsa to ring a bell to go out. She often goes very quietly to the door but ends up wetting the mat. When we are busy and she is so quiet - we don't know she is asking to go out. She will ring the bell if I say 'ring the bell' but she doesn't associate it with asking to go out.
@@francoissioarnaud236 Thank you - I am searching for a way for her to make the connection - she is very smart but at times has selective hearing - haha. She knows what 'ring the bell' means and does it on command. She knows that when she rings the bell I open the door. We've tried moving the bell from the doorway into the room where we spend the most time, now we are back to having the bell by the door. The best thing I have done with her housebreaking is to 1. Keep to a schedule, 2. Take her out about every 2 hours, 3. Take her out during and after play time in the house (when she is excited), 4. Keep her with me so she can't sneak off and potty in the house. I will keep trying with the bell - maybe someday she will make the association?
@tomwessling7065 I trained my doxie Roux to use a bell to go potty and although it did take a little work (she was afraid of the noise at first) we had her bell trained by the time she was 8 months. What finally worked for us was when she would voluntarily ring the bell (which we hung on the wall next to the door) we’d say “go potty” and immediately take her outside. Once she peed/pooped, we would give her enthusiastic praise and a treat and bring her straight back in. Keep at it, you got this! 🙌🏾
This is a very helpful video… Thank you! Planning to adopt a doxy pup in June. Didn’t use the clicker with my last ones, so clearly, I’m the one who needs training! I’m going to check out your other videos as well, really appreciate this one!
Amazing! How did you teach paw and down? Our puppy is 7 months now, he came to us around 2 months ago and I would like to start training him. Thank you.
Hi. Can you share how you teach them such a lovely down? If I put the treat on the floor covered by my hand to let my dog figure it out he eventually gets frustrated and too excited to lay down. I've also tried to sit on the floor and make him move below my arched legs but I think he associated that with going from one side to another :( And you are so right about them getting bored, my dachshund throws a tantrum if I make him spin/twist too much maybe it's too much effort just for food :D
Any recommendations on house breaking? I have a seven month old long-haired dachshund and it’s starting to become impossible! he is neutered but he will still just randomly P in the house even after we’ve already gone outside and he’s done his business. He jumps up on furniture and poops on it. does not ask to go outside. I am home all day with him trying new techniques. my breeder pretty much just told me I need a belly band for a while because otherwise there would be pee stains all over the house that I wouldn’t even notice. I’m keeping him on a house leash 3 feet from me and he will still pee directly beside me. He has been to the doctor and does not have any medical condition or UTI help!!!😮
Hello! Kindly show more videos of the training walks and what you do at the show with the dachshund please! Too many of the tamaskan, I have a dachshund i want to train to show, idk what to expect though
@@RS-nr6zc Thank you. Came home today and thought i heard his tag and collar jingling and almost lost it all over again. Luckily I have decent amount of pictures and have been working from home so got to spend plenty of time with him before he passed. It's still rough though but trying to remember the good times and be thankful for those
So my Chiweenie is 9 months, he knows sit and wait, but not in public, he also still struggles with name recognition. How would you suggest training for name recognition and come?
My doxie has a mind of her own...she is 8 and this past year she decided she would start sitting up on her hind legs to ask for things. It's an irresistible move and I bet she wished she had starting doing it when I tried to teach it to her about 7 years ago...lol
The biggest issue with Dachshunds is this......When you go to pick one out, if there's more then one to choose from they're so damn cute as a puppy it's so hard to pick just one.
Dachshunds are incredibly social dogs, they get along with many breeds especially more dachshunds hehe. My mother's yorkie does especially well with my weens
Hi there! Well for the Dachshunds I ask them to sit, reward it, then quickly ask for a stand and move the treat away, they normally get up quite quickly! Mark and reward. Then start asking for a stand in a heel position and be sure to only reward when the feet are "locked in" and the puppy is nice and still. Finally, you can move forward to actually touching the puppy while they are in a stand :D. I do find a mat or platform to be extremely helpful when working on stationary stands later on in the process. Hope that helped!
@@KatlinMeeko thank you so much! I will definitely try that. Of all my dachshunds shown they had always been started by the breeders, which was wonderful. My new wire mini is making me work lol. Thank you again!
My Dachshund Penny Lane was bitten by a snake in the UK and later died from infection. It's been long enough now (two years) and I think I'm ready to love again. However prices for Badger Hounds have sky rocketed because of lockdown. There's some very unscrupulous owners breeding their family pets and asking thousands for puppies and not really caring about the quality of owners some of which are very superficial.
I have a 12 week old puppy who goes crazy at night for 4 hrs when we want to watch tv. She’s been walked and well rested toileted fed everything.can you help? She is also proving very hard to potty train. She goes out and does a wee , gets a treat then comes in and wees in the house, I am at the end of my tether
I use this one normally and another dark blue one but the brand rubbed off. These ones are great though. StarMark Clicker Dog Training System www.amazon.ca/dp/B000FMDIL6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8UwyFbB2SPE7H
Love this video. You do have a beautiful dachshund. Is he a standard I'm assuming he is for his size at so young. Thank you I'm going to buy a clicker for my puppy 2 try to teach her. Lately she's been biting my hands a lot and sometimes it makes me bleed. Can you do a video on how to stop your puppy from biting?
Beautiful example of clicker training but unfortunately like most dogs they get bored with it that’s why it’s always best incorporating a strong prey drive with a toy/tug it’s difficult to maintain obedience over the years with treat training unless your with a regular pet dog but their hounds they will work all day long but nice training nevertheless
I portion out kibbles, so it's just their food if I'm training like this. Freeze dried liver is also very low calorie too :) But you're right, you must be SUPER careful with their weight.
Mine work for regular kibble. So the "cookie" is healthy. Trainer friends say they use treats with real liver in them. Nigel and Micah,my guys, also love tuna be sure that's safe for your dig, though
This guy was about 3-4 months in this video I believe, I can't quite remember. But I start training day 1 at 8 weeks old. The puppies I breed start learning the clicker at week 5 :)
