It’s July in my time. I live in zone 9b. My hibiscus is now growing in almost full shade. I want to move it out of the day and into the light. Is it too late to transplant it. Should I wait till fall? Last year it was in better light but only got few blooms this year no flowers in sight so far

@@janetcarney6024 hi! A few things come to mind to answer your question. First, consider how big your hibiscus is. A large one would not do well if moved at this time of year. Next, I’m thinking your temps are pretty hot being in zone 9b? If you move it now, you will mostly not get any buds on it this year anyway. If it was me, I would definitely wait to move it next Spring after the new growth appears and is about 6” tall. However, yours may have foliage year around because of the zone you’re in? If you decide to move it now, I would cut the foliage back so that the plant doesn’t try and put energy in to a lot of foliage. It will be under stress when you move it. I encourage you to ask at a local nursery/greenhouse advice on this because they are familiar with your climate. If it’s a proven winners plant, you could also email them and they could help you. This is an extremely long answer and I apologize for that. I just don’t want to give you the wrong advice. You’re definitely going to have to move it at some point to more sun. Hope this helps!

Wow. I just planted three PW Summerific this hibiscus year. That looked pretty hardy coming out of the ground lol. Nice job!

Oh nice! You’ll love them. Yes, it was rooted in quite a bit. I should have done a follow up video because it never skipped a beat! It grew back to full size this summer and bloomed beautifully! I’ll follow up next summer when it starts blooming again!

@@lisaf7688 not sure if you’ve had these before and I can’t remember if I said in the video but don’t be alarmed because they are one of the last perennials to break dormancy.

I need to do this. I knew better, but I planted it a bit to close to an Annabelle Hydrangea. I think I will wait until next spring. I am in zone 5b, and it's already hot with drought like conditions.

Yes, probably best to wait until Spring when yours has just a couple (maybe 5 or 6) inches of growth on it. As soon as the one I transplanted starts blooming, I’ll do a short update video on it. It never skipped a beat! I’m notorious for planting things too closely together 😅

Bobbi, how long have you had your hardy hibiscus? I was just wondering if you could have divided it? I have one that's only a year and a half old, planted in August of 2020. It came back in the spring of 2021 after being trampled and broken off at the ground, by the neighborhood kiddos. This leads me to believe that these plants are nearly bullet-proof. I might try to divide mine next spring. I think if you comment on some of the more popular RU-vid channels that others will see your comments and check out your channel ...that's how I found you. I hope your channel grows! ~Margie

Hi Margie! Yes, I probably could have divided it but the space it was in was really too crowded anyway. It did fabulously after I moved it and bloomed very nicely! According to what I know about dividing them, you need to divide it in two equal clumps with hopefully the same amount of roots for each clump. There is some differing opinions on when to do this (Spring or Fall?) but personally, I would divide it in the Spring after it breaks dormancy and the shoots are several inches tall. I do follow several gardening channels and have been for several years. I have become personal friends with some of them. My intention on commenting on Laura’s video was not to gain subs but I’m really happy to have met several new gardeners on my channel 😊. My goal for my channel is to be faithful to my subs and hopefully share my passion for gardening with others. I’m super excited to get to know you and learn about your garden and flowers etc and I’m really happy you’ve joined me! (Sorry for the lengthy answer ☺️)

Hi there enjoyed your video! How's your hibiscus doing? Did it bloom this year? I have one I'd like to move and I'm wondering if it's okay to do now. It's done blooming. Also what zone do you live in?
@GardeningOnTaylorMountain

Hi Kellie! Thanks for your comment! Yes, the Hibiscus did really well and bloomed beautifully! I’m in zone 6b. Depending on where you live, you may want to wait just a bit until it cools down. It’s still in the 90’s here. I moved this one back in the spring when the foliage was still short. Yours may get stressed if it’s trying to re-established it’s roots and support long foliage. If you know when your first expected frost is, you can move plants about 6 weeks before that. Either way, I would cut back the foliage if you move it now. Most perennials do ok when transplanted in the Autumn. Hope this helps!

I want to transplant my hardy hibiscus now or do I have to wait for it to come out of dormancy? I hope yours do well. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Veronica! My hardy hibiscus did really well this past season after I moved it. Hardy hibiscus is a perennial and most perennials generally do well when moved in the autumn (6 weeks before your last frost). However, obliviously I moved mine in the early Spring with about 6” of growth on it. It depends on what growing zone you are in and if your ground can be worked and has started to warm up a bit. If you still have a chance of freezing weather, I would wait just a bit. I’m not an expert on moving them but mine did well and bloomed beautifully moving it at the time I did. Hope this helps!

@@GardeningOnTaylorMountain I lives in zone 7b. Our temperature in the are about 50's sometimes 60's but, at night it drops down to probably 40's and our last frost will be April the 4th. Glad to know that yours did well. Thank you!

@@veronicabyrd3699 you should be good to move yours very soon. Sounds like your temps are warming up nicely! Just don’t wait too long so your hibiscus will not be stressed with the heat. I used Bio Tone starter fertilizer when I transplanted this perennial. I always put that sort of information in the description of my videos. I also mentioned that in the video. The other bag was just compost as mentioned 😊

Yes, our ground is pretty hard but the auger is a game changer! It’s from Power Planter. I have a couple of bigger ones now and I put them all to the test. One of my favorite things in the garden!
