I've had horrible experiences with hairstylist, and the last one was the last drop. A complete disaster. So I'm going to start cutting my own hair. I think hairdressers see curly hair and get excited and creative, even though they don't actually know what they are doing. So I'm thankful for any curly hair sister who uploads this type of videos. 👏👌👍 UPDATE: I became a hairdresser lol
I thought I was the only one experiencing this problem with every hairstylist you go to. But they do get excited cutting curly hair. And they don't know that its best not to trim when its wet and pulled down. That just kills the image. I end up looking like a poodle if I ask for layers. So I've let my layers grow over the years and I have no volume. So its not a good view. I'm most definitely going to trim my hair like she did. And I've wanted bangs for the longest
Is so good to stumble across people like you that helps us with our lovely curls to make them look at their best. Thanks for this helpful video👍🏼 God bless you dear. Your hair looks amazing!
Same! The girl got my hair wet, brushed it while blow drying it, straightened it and then had the nerve to say to me, “ this won’t ruin your curls “ 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
I hate the way hair salons use products with sulphates and silicones and then they're like 'wow your scalp is so dry' and I'm like 'you don't say?!' 😒 that alone puts me off going let alone they don't know how to cut curly hair
omg same a month ago i got a haircut at a salon right near my house and he told me that my hair is dry then he used a product that literally says has EXTRA silicone , and the hairdresser was like hey did u try this product which i did in the past and oh boy it had me look like a wet dog i told him yeah and it didn't work me tbh so i could avoid buying it, from my experience most hair salons don't know how to work with curly hair properly it gets treated like straight/wavy hair.(my hair is 3c)
Ask them to only use CG friendly products on your hair at the time of booking. If they don't stock those at the basin, come to the salon with your hair already washed and ask for a discount on the cut, considering they won't be using any product on you.
@@nefiloba606 You're the one that got triggered because of a beauty comparison. And no I am not offended, just fed up. I am currently inpatient in a mental health rehabilitation center and learning about my mental health and about keywords that help me cope and live with my mental health problems. One of those words is "trigger" which in my case I use when I example feel anxiety coming on or my ptst. For example a trigger for me is a rape scene or rape joke because it triggers anxiety and memories and ptsd because of my rape and so therefore I avoid movies containing rape scenes and read movie plots before watching the movie. Getting triggered is a real thing that people deal with because of past trauma and/or anxiety and other mental health problems. So when I see people use it "jokingly" for dumb shit I just at fed up by the ignorance. I am scared of using that word in my daily life because everyone assumes I'm joking and I get called names or made fun of or I am just "too sensitive" or too "easily offended" when really I am having a crisis within my brain and I can't control it.
My hair is similar to yours but a LOT thinner. I decided to cut my hair after this and thank you so much! I thought because my hair is fine it would look HORRIBLE with shorter layer but it loooks so much better! Curls are poppin!! I was wondering all the time as to why my curls wouldnt curl, it'd just be wavy. So thanks guuuurl!! :)My fav curly YTer :) xxxx
Sydelle Williams my hair is much thinner too. I’m glad to learn you loved your DIY cut. I feel up to the challenge now thanks to you ladies. Thanks so much 💐
I’m intrigued now! I have fine hair too, and whenever I have a layer cut in at the hairdresser it ends up looking quite blocky...maybe I should take the time to just go curl by curl like in this video!
This is very helpful.after suffering a lot of traumatic bad haircuts at salon it’s time to take the matter in my own hands I’m going to cut my own hair from now on as stylists cuts way too much hair that takes a long time to grow.thanks ☺️
Ok I’m definitely going to cut my own hair especially since I’ve been wanting volume at the top but my hair stylists don’t ever get it right probably because it’s always wet 🙄 thank you so much for this video can’t wait to try it 🙌🏻
Right? When she said she ended up looking like a poodle when some stylists cut her hair...YES. It's exactly what I end up with if I have to switch stylists, especially that first cut. Goofy short puffs on top, then the rest of my hair only curls toward the bottom because of the weight of the longer strands. No blending. I've never tried a Deva cut, that's probably what I need to do. But meanwhile....
Just found this "non tutorial" was very helpful, I trim my own hair in between appts. The part of cutting the crown and going below to kinda of blend a few areas was very helpful! Thanks!
Im so glad yp have more than 2 layers. I finally found a stylist who will give me more than 2 layers. I know my hair and I need 4 layers so my curls dont get weighed down. Thank you for all you videos!
Whom ever call Joy for her a bad word name.may God forgive their dirty tounge they are mad cus she is pretty and has class.plus those kind of comet's don't cus she knows we love her and she do real good work on her hair and face.so don't hate.i love her
Good point about making sure there isn't too much of a gap between the shortest and longest layers, because it looks so off if you forget to add some middle layers to smooth out (so to speak) the transition.
Joey cuts my hair but I am in desperate need of a salon visit. I use to cut my hair just like this when I had Rachel layers back in the day. If I did that now, forget it...I would be bald! GREAT job!!! lol xoxo
I am gonna try this today :D i honestly dont trust any stylist with my hair and there arent any deva certified ones anywhere near.... So i will just diy it :D
Girl! You made me rethink about not getting my hair trimmed at any stylist in my area since they don't know how to trim curls. I'm definitely try it on my own and be creative with my own hair rather than someone else taking my entire length away when all i want is some layers but with my length
In my 63 years, I have not found ONE hairdresser who will LISTEN and cut my curly hair DRY! !! I just got done investing in the last 5 days cutting each curl strand that wanted to be cut, did my layers painstakingly perfect! Ty for this video.
I am going for a 'trim'😬😱😬 next week. I am going to insist they trim my hair DRY! If more than 1cm is snipped, I am walking out. Also why do hairdressers always : dry hair straight/wavy n then it drop out or do an 80s perm????
Great video!! I also cut my own hair in between salon visits for a boost of volume. My family and friends think I'm crazy but it does the trick and looks nice!
Love! I cut my own hair too and now I'm inspired to add more layers. I have the same problem of flatness with my hair on that same side you do and I was scared to chop it but now I'm gonna!!
Genuine revelation watching this. I was thinking, 'Whoah, she's brave....Hang on...You mean I can cut my own hair and it not look like a bird's nest?' I've also always been scared of getting a fringe (bangs) due to the frizz factor. I'm inspired now. My hair is like yours, both in hair type and colour (I'm naturally strawberry brown). I'm getting me some scissors. THANK YOU
Thank you for posting this video. It’s been 1 year since I did the big chop. My hair stylist moved away. This area isn’t the best when it comes to hair stylist. I already have hair cutting scissors. I comb out my curly hair since it was knotted at the end. I cut curl by curl at least an inch or two. My hair was splitting at the ends. So I cut off all the splitting hair until it was healthy. I took my time. You can’t rush it. My hair looks really good and healthy. I will be doing this cut again.
Wow so gorgeous and exactly what I wanted and I really like your method to trimming long curly hair-my tip you might want to try is to flip your head over and scrunch it with your mousse to add volume after your trim😀I love big hair and my curls too thanks for the video
i love it. i just got a deva cut and i tried to tell the stylist to cut the middle shorter layers without the length just like you did more choppy then gradual. I need it for more volume my hair is similar to yours. I've been contemplating doing myself was a little afraid of the crown but you proved me right and I love the crown being shorter yet still having length. Great video, thanks
I tried this out, and my hair has never had more volume! I kinda loved playing with the layers and trimming individual curls. Thanks for the great video!
After watching this video i felt confident enough to trim my own hair and it actually came out pretty good for my first time! Thank you for the inspiration. This will be saving me money and a couple of trips to the salon haha
Omg!! you hair is beautiful after cutting it off😍 finally i found a video like this!! bcause i was thinking to cut it too!! but know that i saw you video im know going to use your tips😍 thank u so much sweety😘😘! (new subcriber)
I love the volume of your hair after the cut. I wish I had the confidence to do it myself because everyone I've gone to has totally butchered my hair! So I guess it can't get any worse lol
Even though I dont have the same gorgeous hair type as yours I love you videos and they're so interesting. You truly are the definition of 3A hair goddess everybody wants but CANT get it. Queen. #beyondironcurls
Curl by curl haircuts are rhe best way to ensure rhat every single hair is a different length. Curls don't stay to the same from day to day. Once you wash it those curls form differently the next day and grab on to other curls
We have VERY similar curls and I'm always tempted to cut my own hair just like you did but it's a little scary. You have inspired me to give it a try. WISH ME LUCK!
Y'all I'm gonna do it. This is the first curly layers cut that looks really good and not too chunky and not all frizzy that I've found on here. Wish me luck!
Why does everyone have to compare her to Shakira, Beyonce or Mariah as if they are the standard of beauty. Why can't she just be beautiful period. BTW, Kelly you are beautiful....you go girl!!! Keep those videos coming.
Joy Before Her Lol!! Kelly I believe in individuality and beauty lives within each person. BTW, that wad of hair in the beginning of this video looks so funny! Your brother he's a hoot. Thx again Kelly!!
Love love love how you cut your hair! This was super helpful! Been looking for some tips on how to get this type of style. I have a lot of hair and it tends to weigh down. I recently got it cut but the person who cut it unfortunately left A LOT of gaps between layers and now I look like tina turner 😩
You did a beautiful job. I cut my own curls as well. The last time I bothered with a salon I begged them not to use water because it would poof and they'd never figure it out. The stylist assured me that wouldn't happen. Well, it did. They totally jacked up my hair. Bad. I ended up having to cut off 5 inches, rewash, style, and then fix it myself so that it flowed correctly and wasn't one length and insanely voluminous in one area
Hi Kelly, I trim my own hair too, because in Italy all hairdressers don't know that curly hair is to be dry cut and not wet, as they always do☹️thank you very much for this video!
In my country curly girls don't have good quilty hairsalons the salons make straight hair perfect but when i come along its like 😮 I always need to end up telling what i do to my hair. But i don't know what I'm doing to my hair. That is why i go to the salon😭 Sometimes it feels like I'm the only curly girl in my area So i end up looking like a triangle head and don't know what to do with my curls. So I'm hoping i can cut my hair pretty😭😭😭😭😭 Btw: i have 3b curls. And let's just say I'm happy RU-vid exist😭😭
I love your videos. I'm trying to let my hair grow out and get somewhere close to yours. I love Deva Curl and I am going to buy the ones u r using. Thanks for your time and help and great videos. U r fantastic!! Keep those videos coming.🌝
Girl giving yourself a devacurl cut haha. Nothing wrong with trimming your own hair. You know your own hair the best as well so I get cutting it yourself 😊. Love your hair!!!
Your hair is gorgeous and you're stunning. I was directed here from an article. My hair isn't quite as curly as yours - more like a wavy curl so not sure this technique will work for me but was fun to watch.
Ahhhhh I want to try this so bad but I’m scared LOL. My hair always grows uneven though and it’s so annoying! I think I’m might go buy those scissors and just do it😝
Mariah Leeanne same, my hair is fine and curls different all over but every section seems to grow the way it wants which is frustrating ugh!! But her hair, like yours, is gorgeous!!
I tried this today and it came out just how I wanted it! I usually cut my hair when it's straight but it never looked right once it was curly. Thank you for sharing. 😊💃🏽
I recently straightened my hair after cutting it like this and it didn't look weird at all! So don't be afraid to try it. Maybe start with smaller snips of the pieces just in case, though.
Great job! My curl pattern is very similar to yours. I also get too much bulk on sides. I wish I could be brave enough to try this on myself. Nevertheless, I understand better now why long layers work on my hair, but lose shape. I have a good stylist who cuts my hair dry. I have tried Ouidad cut, as well as Deva cut. Spent mucho dollars! Bottom line, long layers! After my stylist cuts my hair dry, she shampoos and conditions my hair, then re-checks length wet. You are a pretty lady, do you have Hispanic ethnicity?
Ok your awesome. I know your not professinal but your like the only at home video i have seen that goes curl by curl and its cut dry. Great video🙂.. your hair is amazing.
I have a question for you. I understand that when you colour or highlight your curly hair, you lose much of your curls. How do you handle that or what do you use to bring back your lovely curls ?🙂
Girl. I only gave you a thumbs up because you are so damn pretty. Mariah. Carey and Beyoncé have nothing I mean NOTHING!!!!!’ On you!!!! You’re natural!!!
