May 1 Four Ways to Turn Project-2024
In this installment of the four ways to turn project, Sam turns an octagonal bowl-- much of the work is done off the lathe with a router. This might be considered more of a woodworking project but contains some interesting elements for joining wood turning and woodworking ideas.

What I love about the 4 ways videos is how different they all are. This was really interesting.

Thanks Sam, A helluva lot of design went into this. Certainly shows up well. I probably wouldn’t do something like this due to the design and time involved. I love wood turning not woodwork.

This is an idea worth pursuing, Sam. There should be some interesting facets-to-round inside the bowl, especially if you can start turning on longer chamfers.

Thanks, Richard.... I sometimes go overboard with my ideas. And this might be one of them. But it was fun doing it a little different.-but yes, lots of possibilities for variations on this. Also watched your video and you were plates are very well designed.. Sam

Very challenging piece. My first thought was this was a glue up. Amazing that it was all from a single block. BTW, your dust control on the chop saw seems to work well.

First off, I like it. Even though a lot of the work is with a router and not turned it is still quite nice. The transition from routing the octagon to the round interior is quite interesting. Also the transition from octagon to round on the exterior is very nice. Excellent detail on the top face too. I think the piece of cherry you selected is the perfect piece for this project. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Thankyou, gentlemen, for another four ways video. This ongoing series really helps stimulate creativity in my own turning. After watching all four, and noting differences and different techniques, I have decided That I will try a Walnut bowl with and pentagon edge. Wish me luck.

Love the design of this, Sam. It kinda looks like the bowl is captured in the plate.
