I’m a medical doctor considering starting a medical channel where I discuss topics that people would like to know more about that they may not be able to ask their doctors. I want to help people actually understand things like how certain diseases wok, why certain diets do or do not work and other medicine related scientific discoveries. I also want to answer questions like “why do I have to wait so long to see the doctor? Or why doesn’t my doctor listen to me?” I plan to start my channel in January 2019. It would be great to know what people would actually like to learn or get from a you tube channel.
Thanks for the great content Gillian! I just started a RU-vid channel focusing on study tips, motivation, and lifestyle content as a mom & prenursing/nursing student. Hoping to grow this channel into a successful side hustle-love your tips!
I’ve been creating for 18 months now and am *nearly* at 2,000 subscribers. I wish I could reach 100K one day! I also run a niche ecommerce store. Thanks for this video Gillian. Have you done a video with a breakdown of where exactly the money comes from eg selling products, digital products, affiliate links, sponsored videos? x
Yes its called something along the lines of “10 ways i actually make money” if I recall correctly. Very good video (I remember it 6 months later, which says something ;p)
I have two videos that might be what you're looking for :) How I Created Multiple Streams of Income: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dfaH_RjkoMQ.html How I Earned $22K This Month: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GbWu46afMR0.html Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for this, I’m in the process of building my channel, recently hit 2k subs and although I already make 6-figures online, RU-vid has been a challenge
Hi Gillian. My name is Vikas. I am a citizen of India who has been watching your tube channel for quite some time now. I don't exactly know how often you do RU-vid videos, but, all I can say is that, after watching your RU-vid videos, I have certainly got the much needed confidence in life for me which was lacking earlier. You voice fills me with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and makes me grow stronger day after day. If I were to be with you at the time of making the videos, I would have certainly assisted you in making all of your videos. Although I do not know exactly which country you are from, I like both you and your videos a lot. Pls keep "videoing" like these continuously Gillian.
Hi gillian and followers! It's Cheri Frazier here. My channel is about coping with stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression, BPD, and ptsd using crafting and hobbies. I am still working out my full plan, and only have a few videos, but I plan to start posting tomorrow, doing weekly videos. I'm pretty excited about it! Thanks so much for allowing us to share, Gillian. All the love!
I love, love, LOVE all of your videos!! You are one of the few that give ACTUAL practical advice that’s not puffed up with just filler talk and self-promotion only. Your step-by-step guides and videos are incredible!! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
I am an English and Latin teacher. I have seriously considered doing a RU-vid series on diagramming sentences with the history and rationale behind the process. If I apply what makes it interesting in my class, I think I can make it interesting on video... I’m hoping to use whiteboard apps, NOT me in front of the whiteboard. Since few programs still use diagramming, I thought about approaching it from the “why this will help your writing” angle...I could really use some insight into whether or not this is worth the effort to create...
I just uploaded my very first RU-vid video today! I’m excited and nervous at the same time. Thank you so much Gillian for your amazing videos, I could not have had the courage to actually start my own channel without you!
Gillian, I have been loving all of your videos and taking note on different things for when I start my Channel. (I actually have two videos) It's so funny because after my husband edited it, I watched it and said, "oh no, it's louder in this spot! Gillian said not to do that!". 😂 But then you have also said basically that our first videos are not going to be the best, just get it up there so we can get used to doing it and they will get better.....So I didn't worry about fixing every little thing. Just concentrating on how to make it better and to concentrate on a lead magnet in order to start my email list. 😎 Thanks again
Hi Gillian, thanks for the tips. *As a Full Time Freelance Web Developer, I started creating videos on how to code and manage websites.* I've been fortunate to grow my community to almost 11,000 people from all experience levels. The journey has been awesome and I've learned a lot over the course of uploading over 280 videos. Your tips are great and I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the great information Gillian! I'm a lawyer and have a channel that provides legal tips and practical information for online entrepreneurs and content creators. Love what you are doing - keep it up!
I found this video so helpful Gillian. I re-started my RU-vid Channel this year. I create videos for emerging leaders to help them build visibility and influence so they can get promoted and find clients. I was wondering, how do you work out what products people want? Do you have a strategy/RU-vid video on this?
Hi @Gillian :) I love love Your videos and it's not because only You give so much value in each of them, but You are so sweet and beautiful. I love watching You speak. So clam and relax. So yes You are now one of my favorite RU-vidr and the channel I like to learn from. I am a designer. I create DIY, Crochet tutorial videos. I inspire women to love their bodies and learn to create the clothes that adorn their curves, shapes and different forms. I teach them how to design a crochet garment that fits them perfectly. I use to have Sunday Talk on my channel as well. Thanks again for all You do :)
I’m learning so much from your videos! My channel, Project Happy Home, is about secular homeschooling, parenting a child with ADHD, and living a more essentialist lifestyle. Congratulations on the new baby!
Thank you so much Gillian, for another helpful video. I have been following you for quite some time now and have learned so much. So much so, that I will start my own business officially in February 2019. I will do online counselling in mental health and nutrition (for people with eating disorders, or people with health issues. I also have experiential knowledge on autistic people with eating disorders). Anyhow, I started my youtube channel a few months ago, perhaps already half a year ago. I have been slacking on it because it started to overwhelm me. I basically wanted to do too much social media stuff. Also, the camera and sound wasn't that great, but I invested in better equipment. Now I have decided to post one video every week on my channel on how to improve your wellbeing. I will also start a podcast on 'how to get your shit together', that I will also place on my channel. I will continue to post occasional spoken poetry, depending on my creativity. I also wanted to add, that, I fully agree that a large audience isn't necessarily better for your business, or for businesses who want to promote products through influencers. For example, I only have about 3000 followers on instagram, but have a high engagement rate of about 7%, while about 3% is healthy, and some extremely large accounts are even below that 3%. My point is, percentage wise I am more effective in reaching people. Because my account is not too big, I am able to reply to most people ,even in my DM's and am able to create trust. In addition, my instagram community also makes me feel supported emotionally. (p.s. on my instagram @the_gardenofeve I post poetry, photography and overall positivity). To anyone who has read my post this far, thanks :).
Gillian, I have been wanting to start a YT channel for so long... and after finding your channel, I dedicate myself to watch one video a day (sometimes more when I have time). And I think I'm ready to bit the bullet and just jump in - cause I'm never going to be "ready" lol. I won't do it under THIS email address. I want to do it under my name and not my photo biz name. But I'm going to start a creativity inspiration/education channel.
I have started a blog and set up a youtube channel, but so far only have two videos up. I have 34 years experience working with performance education and ministry with a concentration on puppetry, I design, build and perform. I want my channel to be educational, but its difficult getting out of my own head long enough to produce the video instead of not getting it up because I end up being my own worst critic.
Great video Gillian, thank you! I am a fitness professional and photographer in Hawaii and I help people get in the best shape of their lives using a broader concept and definition of fitness than most of my contemporaries, and I do so with the backdrop/regular injections of the beauty of Hawaii! Would love to help anyone who wants to get in shape and be happier in 2019 and beyond!
This is such good advice! I started my channel in order to educate people on my line of business, so I definitely agree with you on offering value. I have learned a lot from you and other content creators about how to build an audience/increase watch time/etc. and can’t wait to have a channel as successful as yours! I know I’ll get there someday! I’m working on a book and would definitely consider creating a course in a few years!
I have a motherhood // lifestyle channel but also have some other subcategories like a new Purge my home series and wanting to start a motivational series as well to inspire others and help them realize they are capable of whatever they set their mind to! Thanks for the awesome videos I just recently subscribed and I am currently binging your videos 💜
I’m an awesome 54 year old baker without much tech experience.I want to share what I know, Gillian. I plan to start posting content in February of 2019, but I have a lot to do before that can happen. I’m a big fan of yours and a recent subscriber. Help! I don’t want to talk myself out of possible success, but it’s so easy when there’s soooooo much to learn.
It's really good to know that it's not all about the numbers. My RU-vid channel is about visual storytelling and how to best create impactful comics. It's partly for myself as I want to learn more about storytelling in General.
Although I am just starting off, I am confident in myself and my content. One day soon I’ll be able to invest more time and eventually go full time. I’m so excited for this journey 🌟
Thank you Gillian for making this video, so helpful! I am an animal behaviourist and my RU-vid channel is about dog behaviour and how to understand dogs better using scientifically proven positive methods🙂
I am creating and posting financial and entrepreneurial videos based on my experience working abroad. Your videos create impact for me to start and sharing helpful, interesting information. Thank you Gillian!
I got excited over your first few videos about youtube and turning it into a job of sorts, so I went through and watched them all - very helpful and good goals to set and stay aware of! I've wanted to create self-teaching art videos coming from a story writer and character design point of view, so I have been keeping notes on my phone for ideas to conceptualize. I only have a few uploaded so far and am still learning how to explain and show things more effectively.
Hi Gillian, first of all I just want to thank-you from the bottom of my heart for all of your amazing videos! I feel like I've finally found a RU-vid mentor who 'gets' me! I love how full each of your videos are of pure content that we can actually use right away. I love how honest and sincere you are and that you go between business tips and self-empowerment. You asked us to leave a comment saying what niche our own RU-vid channels are in. I'm actually at a stand-still at the moment. I would love any input you may have and this may actually be a great topic for your audience for a future video for you as well. (haven't done the keyword research but have a gut feeling that I'm definitely not the only RU-vidr facing this problem. So here it is: I started my channel way back in 2011 when I baked a cake and wanted to show others how to bake my favourite family secret sponge cake recipe (yup, no longer a secret! tee hee Thanks RU-vid :D ) My ex-husband edited the video for me and we signed up to RU-vid and uploaded our first video. A few years later it actually suddenly went viral, we had no idea why but were super excited. We had signed up for adsense to allow ads on our channel (before there was a limit to how big your channel was to be allowed to add ads) and it went from a few years of trickling in at around $0.10/mo to one day suddenly a steady $20/mo ad revenue on a cake that cost me 3 hours of my time to bake and edit the video for and about $10 to actually make the cake! Cake baking and decorating was just a side personal hobby I had, it wasn't my main passion. My main passion was teaching children about money, more specifically teaching them how to take their own natural talents and passions and turning it into a recurring passive income. I used my how to bake a cake video as one example. I didn't really know anything about RU-vid or RU-vidrs or Viewers and how things worked. I just kept uploading content as I created it and ended up having two very different niches (cake decorating) and (teaching children about money) on one channel with a bunch of fun (life hacks) and two sub-channels for my kiddos (one for each). So as you can imagine, not very stream-lined at all. However I just kept increasing my ad revenue without knowing why, not by a huge amount though, kinda hovered between $20-$40/mo mainly coming from the how to bake a cake video, that would vary in income based on the season. Then after my divorce (and recovering from almost dying in a 3 week coma when my lungs gave up on me and I miraculously survived ARDS - acute respiratory distress syndrome - that most don't survive) I realized that I would not be physically able to bake or decorate cakes as a regular thing any more. I actually had to completely stop all progress on my RU-vid channel and business websites for about 2 years while recovering and going through rehab. I know this is long, but I think I'm not the only one who started on RU-vid very naively and then suddenly built a small fan base and now has no clue which direction to go! And you are so amazing at getting down to the nuts and bolts of RU-vid and our wonderful viewers on this amazing platform. So my question is should I maybe separate my channel into three different ones instead? One for cake decorators, one for parents and one for my true passion entrepreneurship and life-empowerment. I'm thinking of moving the cake and the kids ones to separate channels (keeping the old videos up but having them encourage redirection to the new channels) and then using my base one for my true passions. Hope this all makes some sense. Again, thank-you so much for your time, I know you are a very busy woman and I really appreciate all you do. Hope one day to be able to help you as much as you have already helped me. Hugs ... Amanda ... Excited Life Enthusiast! ;o)
Thanks, Gillian. I need to work on multiple points of contact. That is where I am weakest at the moment. This was very helpful. My channel is about reinventing yourself when you are in the second half of life. I want to help others live with purpose, fulfillment and joy.
Fantastic video! My channel is about getting organised and planning with pretty paper planners. You get a little creative me time all the while getting organised in the process 💕 And you end up with a planner that makes you smile, which is so motivating 😊
Great Video. My channel will be a mom, lifestyle, vlog, and music channel. I know that encompasses a lot but I'm not confident I can manage 2 different channels right now.
Love your videos, you're looking great post-baby, hope all of you are well! This was a great video and honestly I found relatable as today I cleaned up my channel, narrowed down my subjects to 3 and even changed my schedule for when I post videos. I have been working my channel since June 25 and already up to 129 subs! I know that isn't as much as soooo many out there but I feel blessed to have 129 folks follow me :-)
I have been creating for 2 years now with 350 videos!! That’s right 😳 I hit 4K today! My channel is about home and style! I do currently make a regular check every month from RU-vid alone and I have so so much fun creating for my channel it has been the best decision I have ever made!!
Hi Gillian!! I'm just starting the journey to build my own business and your videos have helped me so much to get my mind rolling on ideas and actually START planning!! I've basically been binge watching your videos!! LYSM I swear you're a superhero, you rock mama bear!! Also... by chance, where's that rose top from?
I would like to creating a RU-vid channel for create positive environments in a workplace. I'm very passionate about having that space that inspires you.
Thank you Gillian! I love that you keep it simple! My husband and I have a RU-vid channel together. He's a personal trainer and posts workout videos. I'm a life coach and I create videos to help people reach their fitness and weight loss goals. :)
Hi Gillian! Loved this video so much! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m itching to start making consistent videos again and this really inspired me! Thank you! Have an amazing day! ❤️
Love your look in this video as well- digging your hair up! 💁🏼♀️ Thanks for the inspiration, I have been building my brand, FruitPhoria, for almost a year now. I focus on health eating a plant based diet and my illustrations. I sell my artwork and plan to write/illustrate a children’s book soon. Thanks for the help!
Yes I have a RU-vid channel - I'm still working on getting it off the ground. My channel is DIY Website Tutorials & Tips for Handmade & Etsy Sellers :) Love all your videos Gillian; they have been very helpful!
Great video Gillian. My name is Laura Hoyda and I have a motherhood & lifestyle channel about my life as a former lawyer, current SAHM of 2 in Vancouver 🇨🇦
Home Sweet Abundance, Inspirational How-To Content To Help You Simplify Your Life. Thank you, Gillian!! I am going to start implementing these strategies on my channel! I Just finally found out what kind of content I want to create, I can't wait to start crafting and refining my skills to bring good quality content to my audience! Your channel has given me the inspiration to move forward and help people.
Hi, Gillian Thanks for sharing this video! I was making my channel about social media. But now I'm thinking about different ways to make money. I'm gonna test the jobs, do the math, show the expectation and then show the reality after 1 week, to see which way is better. That's what I'm thinking about. P.s: I was making youtube videos consistency, but then the final started in high school and I didn't upload for a week. And then what worth happened is I got lazier.😅😅😅
We have a RU-vid channel about moving abroad (to Mexico), downsizing (sold most belongings + our house), living each day to the fullest by escaping the 8-to-5 and embracing a slower pace of life.
Thank you Gillian~ I am a licensed naturopathic doctor. I want to start a you tube channel to share my protocols, and I want to make workshop/instruction vid program for practitioners that want to learn how to assess women's health naturopathically.
I’m a bit busy now, so You Tube is a project that I want to tackle down the road after I’ve solidified my online teaching, writing, Spanish-to-English translating, etc. Having said that, I’d like to capitalize on my language background (teaching, learning, utilizing in the field outside of the classroom, Translation & Interpretation, retired Texas Licensed Court Interpreter, degrees in teaching & languages, etc.) to do a language-related channel. I’m interested in reviewing language training programs I’ve been in, teaching free Spanish lessons, reviewing textbooks for language teachers, etc. Not sure exactly which way to go, whether to pick a niche or do a variety of stuff, etc. I’m an American expatriate and university professor living in Taipei, Taiwan and I wonder if being an expat will be challenging in any way if I sign up for a You Tube channel.
I have been creating videos for several years now, but just started taking it more seriously this year. I create videos for spiritual, new age, and metaphysical practitioners to learn and grow in their craft and navigate modern lifestyles and relationships. :D I have 30 years experience in the field, so I feel like I have some stuff to share on the topic.
Hey Gillian, thanks for sharing such helpful content! I have a YT channel, and it's focused on showcasing keto-friendly, low-carb, recipes. I think developing information products to teach folks how to cook in this style would prove valuable to a lot of people!
I am just starting a weekly bible study on Saturdays and at the end of my videos there are time lapse vids of my artwork! I really wanted to share my passion for God and Art!
Yes I do remember a few years ago there was this real big RU-vidr, sorry I can't remember her name, who had over 1 million subscribers and was not making much dollars from her channel. She still had to work a regular job to pay her bills. She even made a video talking about how embarrassed she was when she ran into her subscribers at her job, because they all assumed that she was making crazy money.
One more question! How soon should I start creating products? I have some ebooks I may want to create soon but should I actually wait until I get more followers?
I agree with this video but it does come down to luck a bit too. The algorithm has never promoted a single one of my 90+ videos to a broader audience. 80% of my views on a daily basis are from search and it's this lack of love from the RU-vid algorithm that has really has hurt my growth. 3% of my views come from suggested. I'll keep going though, but I'm going to slow down with making 2-3 vids a week as i'm not getting any ROI from it. Maybe one video a week is better.
I would like to start a RU-vid channel to on Lymphedema. I am an Occuaptional Therapist who specializes in treating this condition and there is such a need for good information to be put out there. Kind of nervous to take the dive into doing this. Your videos are great and I am trying to make the plan and then DO IT!
Great info, I think I need to watch this a few times to remember all these great points to help me build my coding and tech events / hackathons channel. Thanks for sharing 🤓👍
Hey Gillian! I don't see the link to the Information Business Quickstart Guide, the one linked below is the Channel Launch one :). Great video, thank you! I especially appreciated the advice on not building on one platform only. When I make blog posts I embed the corresponding RU-vid video but I'm thinking maybe I should upload that video directly to my website server instead..but then again I do like embedding because my channel is new and I'm trying to grow an audience. What do you think Gillian?
Thank you very illuminating. I am about to start an all emcomapassing Yoga ,movement and meditation channel to enable people to access high quality teaching from the comfort of their homes. I also hope to offer this as a helpful educational resource for other teachers and students of Yoga alike. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for sharing so much helpful and encouraging content. I'm just starting my channel as an authorpreneur with content that will educate, encourage, and entertain those starting out or starting over as writers or entrepreneurs.
Great video Gillian. My name is Jim Fahad and I create Step-by-Step website creation Tutorial videos for beginners (Especially, for non-coders but who wants to create their own website without hiring a fancy web developer)
I have started one technicallly and so far I've just showcased a couple of planning product hauls. I'd like to develop it to give tips on planning, creative endeavors, home decorating and organization.
I just started my channel TODAY and posted my first video. (It was only 3 minutes long, lol, but now it's off and running.) It's an instructional channel about oils painting.
Thank you so much for this video! I hope to be able to begin to work from home doing things I am more passionate about. I’ve created a channel about fashion and lifestyle, sharing tips on how I like to save money as a college student living in a new city :)
hi Gillian! you look so pretty in this video btw. I have a RU-vid on fitness, focused on how to do proper form for beginners starting their journey. I know what it is like to start bettering yourself through fitness and health and i want to share my knowledge for those who decided to commit to the lifestyle. My channel isn't growing as fast as i want it to, but i am not giving up on the RU-vid family i already have. I love all my supporters and i'm excited to help those who feel lost. Thank you for the opportunity to promote and for the tips on success!
Great info, thank you! I've been wanting a channel for a while but haven't known where to start. Do you think you needed your blog up and running, so you had a place for your products, before starting RU-vid or do feel like they stay pretty separate?
