After a series of cardiac arrhythmia episodes a few years ago I purchased the Apple Watch so that I can do a simple ECG when needed. I can print these out from my phone to send my physician. I use many other apps on the watch daily, especially the timer to keep me on task with household chores such as cooking and laundry. I love it for texts and notifications, on vibrate mode. It’s a great tool and the more I use it, the more I find that it does. 👍🏼
Good job explaining some of the Apple Watch features that are useful to you. I think when listeners hear you say, “I didn’t think this feature would be important, but this is how I use it, every day…”, it makes a special impact. I just got my first Apple watch after years of thinking it was one of those ‘over the top’ tech items, and how wrong I was! This watch is seriously useful, even with my Mac, iPad and iPhone. Thanks for all you do!
Great video Rich. As a retired nurse I wondered if you would consider doing a separate video on how the Apple Watch can be used to help in times emergencies for older people for example when they fall or need help. Thanks again for your great work.
I love my Apple Watch! One of the best things the Apple Watch is that it can detect a fall! And if you don’t respond to Siri, she will call EMS so you got to respond to Siri and say Siri I’m fine and then you gotta get up. If you don’t get up, she’s going to call EMS ! Last year I had Piriformis syndrome it is like sciatica on steroids very painful and was very hard to walk. I was out shoveling when it snowed and the snow shovel slipped. It went flying and I went flying into the snow and immediately Siri asked me if I was OK and I said yes Siri I’m fine, and then I immediately started getting up and she asked me a second time on my way up the stairs. Are you sure you’re OK? So it is the greatest feature of the Apple Watch! Boy I bet Scout is getting big! Have a great day Rich.
Hi Rich, I have a Apple iPad Pro, iPhone 12 Pro, and an Ultra. My last watch was a series 3. I hummed and hawed about the Ultra. I’ve had it for about 3 months now. Like yourself I love it. There is so much it is capable of. With my last watch I would often forget to take my phone. No worries with this watch. Im 67 years old and I really enjoy the technology available to us. So much more to learn. I wish it had a glucose meter as I’m diabetic. I understand it could be a couple years in the making. Take care, Harry
I think they're getting closer on the glucose monitoring. Or at least that's the rumors. Yes, I dont know anyone who bought the Ultra who didn't like it more than their other Apple Watch. Man, it sure is expensive though...
Hi again Rich, What have you heard about the monitor? I’ve heard 2/3 years. The price is high. I live in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. $11.00 plus tax. Like you said, I love it! Looks like the iOS will have significant updates in the not so distant future.
A feature i enjoy and use a lot is to ask Siri to set a timer when cooking and also to set a timer to remind me when I need to to stop what activity I am doing- basically the timer helps me with time management. I also use the alarm on my watch to get up every morning! If I want to walk for an hour I will set a timer for half an hour so I know when to turn around and head home.
Well, once again, Rich, you have clued me in to information I had on my IPhone watch, but had not used effectively. Thanks for helping us “Senior Dogs” learn new tricks!😊
I bought an SE last week and have slowly investigated features. I’ve enjoyed changes watch faces and tracking my exercise, WW points, etc. This is a great tutorial! Thanks so much.
Great real life use case video Rich. All very useful and used by most of us who owns an Apple Watch. Glad that RU-vid algorithm suggested your channel. Liked and Subscribed. Now, can not wait to go through your other videos after work tonight (It’s 7AM in India on 27th March). Keep them coming :) :)
Thank you very much for this video! My daughter gave me an Apple Watch almost 2 years ago. Your video made me realize that I do use most of the apps that you mentioned -- clock, calendar, reminders, phone, etc. In addition, I also use timer, Meross (a smart home app).
Which model Apple Watch do the commenters use or recommend? I am 70 and thanks to Rich am using my iPhone and iPad greatly. The idea iv having a health monitor, means for communication, a fall detector is of great importance to me.
Hey the apple watch ultra would be best as the battery lasts the longest and it will have all the features you listed. Go for the version with the trail loop band as this will be most comfortable. Have a great day.
Another excellent video. I have had an Apple Watch 7 since it came out and learned about the Phone complication. I have shown my friend your site and he will gleen a lot for your videos. You are easy to listen to and not overwhelming with the information. Great teaching method. Tnank you.
Many people spend too much time just trying to find their phone to use around the house. My phone stays in my office and I rely on the watch to perform most tasks. BTW asking Siri to set alarms and timers is a useful tool. Most users of the Watch don't take advantage of all the many features so kudos to you for offering this information.
Hi Royce, I've got another video coming out on 4/8/23 on Apple Watch safety features. Check that out when you get a chance. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Haven’t upgraded to the ultra but have had an Apple Watch since the 2nd model. I have my favorite watch use, answering calls on the golf course. Dick Tracy style. I can’t justify the cellular Apple Watch version.
For those who want to know: 1. Press and hold the Side button on Apple Watch. 2. A menu will pop up with two or three options depending on what you have set up on your Apple Watch. These include Power Off, Medical ID, and Emergency SOS. 3. Keep holding the side button to activate a countdown; emergency services will be called when it runs out. You can also slide Emergency SOS to call them quicker. If you want to cancel the emergency call, there's a way for you to do that, but I won't list it here.
My Apple Watch told me I might be in AFIB. I went to my dr n was put on a heart monitor. I was diagnosed with AFIB and put on medicine. I now monitor my AFIB on my watch in the health app. It literally helped me from a stroke. I love my Apple Watch. Just like you I would be lost without it.
It's hard to over estimate how useful this device is. AFIB is serious and there's usually no symptoms until it's too late. I'll be doing more videos soon the watch in the future. Thanks so much for watching!
@@RichBowlin yes. It’s a great app. Only weather app I use on my watch. On the phone I like the built in one. But I turn off all the snarky talk that carrot weather does. I just like the app. Not the talking.
I’m 60 and I also have an Watch Ultra. I’m very active and that’s why I purchased it. I have a question for you though: Why do you wear another tracker on your right wrist? Especially since the Watch Ultra is way better than any given tracker!!! Great video by the way:)
You noticed! I've been asked this a lot. So my insurance company pays rewards for walking and their app uses the Fitbit tracker. That's it. But my Ultra is WAY better. Thanks so much for watching!
Ha! I get asked this question all the time. My insurance company offers a benefit for walking. That's a Fitbit on the other wrist. Of course the Apple Watch counts steps too, but I don't want to wear my fancy Apple Watch while working in the yard or in my wood shop. I'll surely break it if I do that. I'm not worried if I scratch the Fitbit.
