being disqualified/banned for being AFK in an event where you normally wouldn't be able to survive for being AFK is kinda stupid because the whole point is that if you're AFK, you have a ~99% chance of dying. The fact that he survived for that long while being AFK should be an automatic win, not an automatic ban. The server admin clearly doesn't understand this achievement.

Dude think of what mental state the hardcore PvP players in the event would be in, realizing that they were beaten by some dude who didn't even move a muscle for the majority of the event. "In the grand calculus of the event, his death means infinitely more than his win!"

Assuming the event was just replacing the top layer, you could have used a water bucket to create an obsidian platform, waited for it to be submerged in two layers of lava, and then placed a door on the obsidian. Carefully put yourself into the door and voila!--you just outsmarted the system. Of course, if it filled all layers between bedrock and the surface each time it rises then you'd have lost the event. A small amount of testing could have proven if it was possible though.

Strat: Get as many blocks(and 29 obsidian, i counted it. 7 for emergencies.) as you can before event happens and build up as high as you can and make a little "hut". Unless your foes have diamond or netherite picks, you should be good.

Simple trick: make an iron door and stand in the space. To escape hunger get plenty of saplings, wood, dirt, and seeds to make a farm once lava goes past above you.
