She is an absolute genius and I am so happy she just received her honorary doctorate few days ago. She is wayyyy deserving. More people need to know about her and what she's pioneering.

It would be so cool to create and perform music this way. It would be pretty limitless what you could do. This tech is probably super buggy and expensive though.

Looks like the latest 2019 pre-orders cost £2,500, according to Engadget. The first batch in 2015 were £5,000 and only available to performers like Imogen & Ariana Grande.

Imogen is one of the most unique, prolific creators of alternative music of all time, any attempt at commentary is an understatement. My favorite is Angry Angel, but hey, it's all good. I remember back in the earlier days of VR / motion tracking (mid 1990s), this was a theoretical concept being considered . . . 25 yrs later, here it is, as a commercially available instrument / interface platform, being co-developed and utilized by the absolute best creative artist of the genre in the business.

Really happy you chose an I Megaphone song for your favorite. Something about the tracks Whatever and Angry Angel specifically have a power over me even now
@ZacAttackk
@ZacAttackk 7 месяцев назад
iMegaphone has bangers in it- she's a lot more edgy and raw in her first album as a young artist but I've heard that's partly due to her record label wanting her to sound like another popular artist at the time to increase the chance of success

don't forget to be appreciative of all the other 'geniuses' that make this even remotely possible--- that is to say, all the techie and MIT type folks that have been making this possible for her over the close to a decade long period this has been in development. not to mention, im sure she is not the only person to have a project like this..... I mean I got here by randomly thinking how much nicer it would be to have a way to control music spatially with my arms and hands and fingers, via postures and gestures and some digital screen interface.... and what do you know. I had thought maybe just a virtual environment though would work too..... which I still like the idea of, as it would UNDOUBTEDLY lower the cost of entry ..... like a PS-VR type thing maybe, since they h ave that whole finger movement mapping thing done pretty well I believe, from what ive seen of VR gamers. Imagine something like her gloves, but with an extra apposable thumb of sorts that you can tuck away by your wrist, or swing out and stabilize it into a position where your thumbs could manipulate it, and there would be your joysticks....... and then the gloves could be sorta as is...... I dont know. but I think that sounds ,maybe even cooler than the PS-VR tech ive seen? the little cuff things you hold while playing. but I think where this tech will truly SHINE is the world of AR and AR glasses. imagine how precise and unlimited you could be in such a environment.... it would remove the laptop she had to use and would put it all just to glove controlled window opening and navigation via her hands, but all seen through the AR glasses. someone feel free to let me know when that is a reality please

I really wanted a metal version of this, made to look more like a medieval gauntlet. I thought there was no such product out there, but with a slight modification the software and the hardware here would produce the "metal gloves". I mean with the current technology you don't really "need" gloves, but metal gauntlets? Come on bro. You got your demon skull helmet with red glowing eyes making metal music live? Come on bro. XD

True "talented artist" - all hat and no cattle.
@StaxRail
@StaxRail 5 лет назад
Yep. Since the 90's music imo has been taking a bit of a dip in terms of actual creativity. For example, Nirvana practically crafted grunge, Queen took rock and flipped it inside out, Hendrix did the same- the list goes on. However, all modern music is the same, with no major breakthroughs, and with really weird bits that don't fit in, like this.
@BIZARBIES
@BIZARBIES 5 лет назад
This is a hat full of cattle shit imo. But hey, what do I know, my Christmas light collars don't pop like hers.
@Waltzhybrid92
@Waltzhybrid92 5 лет назад
@@StaxRail I think its particularly difficult to discern what the best of here and now is compared to the past. At least when you speak subjectively you remember the good and forget the bad generally when speaking about the past. However when referring to the now all the bad is yet to be forgotten. Imogen Heap, Beardyman, Flying Lotus, Jocob Collier, Tosin Abasi ARE all innovative in their respective fields. Definitely check them out as you don't know of an creative contemporary bands. Also, Nirvana didn't coalesce their sound in a vacuum. They were part of the grunge scene coming up in the 80's. If you've never listened to grunge and only Nirvana I would think they created it too. Check out Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains maybe Stone Temple Pilots. I think the same goes for Queen and Hendrix. It doesn't matter so much that they were creative. Just that their contemporaries were forgotten to the extent that people think there was no one like them because of their own ignorance of the presiding music collective they forged their sound in.
@StaxRail
@StaxRail 5 лет назад
@@Waltzhybrid92 however innovative people are though, influence is what shapes music. Nirvana, Pearl Jam and all those other groups you've mentioned have influenced their respective genres and then music. However, innovation doesn't necessarily mean influential and then because of a lack of influence groups are forgotten. Whilst innovation is great, and needed in all fields, be it music or science, only innovation relating to current subjects can influence. For example, its all good creating gloves such as this, but if they only have a minimal impact on a genre (I would never have known these existed if it wasn't for the Reverb notification) then they will be forgotten

I guess when you're more interested about being "an artist" than being a musician you naturally end up wearing a post modern christmas tree around your neck and using overpriced LED gloves to do the same shit you could easily do using the expression wheels on the keyboard.
@ajfraser224
@ajfraser224 5 лет назад
So you can create new scenes, reverse loops, create loops, pause, play and control like 8 other parameters at once with your modulation wheel?
@really.not.important
@really.not.important 5 лет назад
@@ajfraser224 You can macro it out and eventually get the same effect and have your hands free to actually play. She can basically play a few notes during a song because if she actually did more she would have to move her hands around too much and would probably trigger accidental parameter changes. The gloves actually hinder the performance.
@supraphonic88
@supraphonic88 5 лет назад
@@really.not.important But the benefit here is that we're dealing with organic human movements. How much more natural is it to draw out your hand like a conductor than press a button to achieve the desired effect? It's a bit of UI/UX mastery.
