In this video I discuss how important ceiling speakers are in Dolby Atmos. Not just how important they are but also how important it is to have a minimum of 4 speakers instead of just 2.

You have exactly captured my problem with the roof slope. This was exactly the answer I needed. I will build a 7.1.4 system. I have Genelec speakers and the Genelec GLM software has a good room correction. I think the room correction can help with the low ceiling height in my room. The software already helped with my current 2.1 stereo setup. Thanks again for your detailed answer, helps me a lot.

I figured that was why you were asking. I would 100% aim for 4 on the ceiling for that x y axis.

Good information. I just got a new avr that can do 7.2.4 I'm looking for ceiling speakers but my ceiling is kind of low, 8' drop ceiling. I'm just starting to research speakers, I really don't want to buy the wrong ones. Should I be looking for wide dispersion speakers? I'm worried about atmos spacial sounds hitting the floor in front of me instead of the desired listening position. Any kind of tips or help is greatly appreciated.

Strictly for movie watching. 5.1.4 or 7.1.2? that's something I'm stuggling with at the moment. Cant fit any higher a budget atm.

You can always add more speakers at a later date. Far less audio is put on the ceiling that in the surround speakers. I'd choose 7.1.2 over 5.1.4. You'll find only 5% of audio is on the ceiling and you'll gain height with 2 speakers. You just won't hear forwards and backwards movement with one speaker.

@@AudioAnimalsStudioyou mean you have better Height Feeling with two Speakers? I have a Low ceiling 2m.I run 5.2.4 with 50° Angle.Think about 7.2.2 or even 7.2.4.I run Dirac Bass Control by the way.

@@texxhexxmm no, I'm saying purely with speakers on the ceiling you'll gain height, not that you'll gain more height. I can see how that comment may read like that. What I'm saying is more audio is positioned around the room in the surround speakers than the ceiling speakers. I'd personally choose to have 7 speakers in the surrounds rather than 5. But it's also better to have 4 speakers on the ceiling for a sense of depth.

@@AudioAnimalsStudio okay,i was thinking If with a Low ceiling maybe two Speakers Overhead Sound better.I have 10cm on ceiling speakers,maybe i Go in ceiling so i gain 10cm plus they are invisible then.

Do you recommend setting up Atmos in a living room where there are no walls in one of the sides?
@AudioAnimalsStudio
@AudioAnimalsStudio Год назад
I wouldn't recommend for a studio purpose. For listening purposes, it'll be fine for TV or a home cinema. The reason I say it wouldn't be a good idea for studio purposes is because having that many speakers in an imperfect room isn't ideal. Lots of inaccurate monitoring and phase is heard.
@ThisGuyRocksLikeCrazy

@@AudioAnimalsStudio of course. The whole point of it in the living room is for casual entertainment.

@MM 754 In that case no problem at all. I have an atnos setup at home in a less than perfect room for watching TV and listening to music and it is perfectly fine.

I would say do 6 ceiling speakers (7.1.6) minimum. 9.1.6 if you have the space to implement wides. Unless of course your room is VERY small.

The exact measurement is Ceri Thomas with an outstretched arm above his head. If you know, you know.
