Very cool video! First off, I have never heard of the Randall RM100... very cool amp! As far as the preamps go, I think I generally preferred the 1073 clone the best. I did slightly prefer the JoeMeek on the clean sounds, though. I have to admit that I am always suspicious of a plugin when it hypes a certain frequency band, and I did feel that the UAD plugin hyped the higher mid-range a bit. However, if it works best in the mix, I would use it, anyway!

UAD Neve 1073 was surprising seems to add clarity and push guitar in mix well. Others were good but the Neve sound was good all around clean and dirty tones.

Hi Clayton, thanks for your message. I think you are right! I found it interesting listening back to the audio as I heard how nice the UAD 1073 plugin is. There's not a big difference between them all though which I was surprised about. However, I wonder how big the difference would be would with better preamp's such as the BAE 1073/ API. I better get saving!! 😆

I heard that as well. Quite surprising as I would have thought the analog preamps would he given more width.

You actually have to know how to listen to these clips…experience is need for that as these tracks behave differently in the mix. Right away I can hear that the plugin is harsh and it will mess up the entire mix while the joemeek is the sweetest, it conpresses the sound, gives balls to it, sustain and analog vibe… no spikes!!! If you don’t understand this, play it on your phone and put the speaker next a surface so that it sounds awful, there you will hear a huge difference and you’ll hear the spikes that are masked when listening to the sound on studio speakers or directly on headphones…. This is why the well known mixers use small shitty speakers all across the room to actually hear those things and to be able to draw decisions quickly and accurately. cheers 😊

Thanks for the feedback man. I am going to try the phone trick. I must say that when I recorded this I did not have good monitors and it was tough to hear the differences.

@@chasingtone2022 Sure! Anyway, I learned all these things in audio engineering school 20y ago. The acoustics professor sad, we all listen to these sources subjectively. Everyone hears everything differently… we react differently on masking tones, and in this case the lows and the mids mask the content that we are actually looking for.
