What handicap where you at when you did your first custom fitting?

When I play with my old irons I hit them 20yrds less. My new irons I can swing smooth and easy with more accuracy and enjoyment. 120 when i started. My average 9 hole is 45. I am still working on learning to hit a 3wood and Driver this year. Start with an Iron fitting.

After listening to some very valid points from Jens at Titleist, I think a good club fitting is coming to my bag in the near future. Seems important!

A repetitive GOOD golf swing will overcome some equipment flaws, as I was fortunate enough back in 1993 when I was able to play with a young PRO that played the South African golf tour, that was the stepping stone to the PGA, but Arparthide got so bad ha came home to Kansas and my buddy that owns a 9 hole very hard golf course hired him and this kid would take out the crappy rental clubs and shoot under par or level par 36-9 holes72-18 holes. I asked him why he did bring his PING set to the course ( he lived in a country club and kept his clubs there ) and he said a club is a club and if your swing was good enough you can play about any club you want, and he was amazing to watch and play with !!! So spend your money on lessons getting good and clubs shouldn't matter, but they may take a few shots off your rounds! I took his advice and got to a 6 handicap and was nice to play any club and shoot good scores. The only reason I didn't go lower, as marriage and life got in the way. I have been fit for clubs 4 times, 1994 Kenneth Smith Blades in Shawnee Mission Kansas, Ping for ISI nickels and i20's and a shop that supposedly had all the clubs to fit and was nothing more than a snake oil sales store, they were altering the monitor numbers between My ping driver and a New Titleist 913 D3 and said I was 20 yards longer and I bought the driver with special shaft for $599 bucks, took it out and was shorter than my PING driver on the course, SO if I get fit again it will be by the manufacturer I choose to buy. like I did the other 3 fittings!

Yeah, the pros can play whatever they have handy, that's for sure. So, like you said, the swing is what matters really. I wish I had a more consistent swing, mine is really both horrible and good at the same time😁

@@GolfDuff Just keep getting lesson tune-ups and practice, and it will come almost automatic, then you can pick up about any club and play, I have 4 sets I switch around, my old Callaway 1996 Big Bertha irons, 1993 Kenneth Smith Custom Fit BLades, a fit set of PING ISI Nickel irons and my newest set is Adams Idea Tech V3 Forged and I switch out all season long and shoot even par to a smooth 90 with all sets when I am WAY OFF ...... LOL

In my opinion, taking a few lessons to try to get a reasonable swing prior to a custom fitting makes sense.

This sounds like a very smart investment

Were you fitted for the XL Halo irons or did you go for the lucky shoes method? 😉

Unfortunately, I went for the lucky shoes method... And I am pretty sure, they are wrong for me. They feel a little heavy in the heads, so I am very curious to do a fitting next time I change irons.

Thru a golf season many will change the swing, isnt the Clubs wrong then?

Great question. I don´t think our natural swing tendencies change that much in just one season. But it is an interesting question. Wish I had asked about this. But then again, you can always bring your clubs in for an adjustment of lie and loft etc.

If you expect your swing to change during the season, the product specialist will take this into account. Then we will see more on your physical prerequisites, like height, length of arms and swing speed. These are factors that won’t change as much during a season. Also, before we start a fitting, we will go trough what you are looking to be doing in your swing, and take this into account
