In this tutorial, I'm gonna be going over the exact mixing and leveling methods used by some of the most prolific producers in the industry. Examples of producers who use this method include Metro Boomin, Wondagurl, and Pierre Bourne. In this video, I'm going to be going over the exact levels they use, their goto mixing plugins, hows to properly eq your sounds, the best effects for your drums and melodies, and overall how to achieve a perfect mix every time.

I’ve been a producer/ beat maker For well over 30 years. Started making beats I was 13 years old. I just turned 49 in November. So I’m a dinosaur😂😂😂. These tips are spot on. It’s very important to have some basic mixing skills. It’s also good to have your beats mixed. Here’s why... most artist will use the 2 track about 90% of the time. Very few will purchase the actual trackouts (or stems) of the beat. Usually because the trackouts will usually cost more. In order to compete with the industry standards. Your beats need to be mixed well straight out the gate. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told the artist to reach out to producer to obtain the trackouts because the Two track beat sounds terrible. Mastering a song with a beat with a terrible mix it won’t yield good results. The worst thing to hear is an artist rapping over your beat and it sounds like shit on Apple Music and all the streaming platforms. Not only that but it makes you as a beat maker sound amateur due to bad sound quality. A mediocre beat with a great mix will stand out more than a great beat with a bad mix on it. If you’re gonna compete as a beat maker it’s imperative that you learn how to mix your own beats. Plus mixing your beats can and will give it your own unique sound signature. In these modern times you’re beats aren’t really finished until you’ve mixed it. It’s a part of the beat making process nowadays. He did a great job in this tutorial.

I definetly agree with a lot of teqniques in this video, and for youtube mixing/mastering it definetly works best with a loud kick. But it cannot be stressed enough that for spotify/apple music etc. releases, you need that snare/clap to be on the same level as the kick. Levelling your sounds according to DB is also a HUGE issue, since that is not a correct measurement for sound. You should instead use your ears and listen to the mix. Lol just hit 13:00 in th video and you said pretty mch that, great video man! Gonna support you for sure!!

I did this on all of my last few beats and this actually works. You can hear every sound in its own little pocket without interfering with others sounds. I would bring up the frequency where the sound sounds good and then grab another sound and do the same. Then I grab both eq’s and turn down the frequency where the opposite sound sounds good at, on both sounds. This helps create space, avoids interference and allows both sounds to shine in where they sound good. Now when I master i dont have to do much. The bass frequencies sound perfectly and tucked in the melodies don’t interfere with the bass frequencies and don’t interfere with the hi hats. When i play each sound alone they sound empty but when you play all the sounds together they sound full because each sound fills its particularly frequency.

It's literally impossible and the only thing you will hear is the volume decreasing bcs of the way mono summing works. It's just not possible to hear a "stereo pocket" in mono. Rough notes for a quick copy and paste into a notepad. Note** Not exact quotes and may have personal notes in as well** Kick- -7 to - 5db Clap- -10 to -8db 808- -12 -to -9db unless you do not have a kick, then mix as if a kick Snare - 13 to -10db same goes if no clap, mix as clap at -10 to -8 db perks -19 to -13db Hi hats -20 to -16 open hats -25 to -20 Before mixing, Switch your Master track from Stereo to Mono!!!!!! (edited) While EQing melody sounds, make sure you cut off low and highs ONLY To the point just before it changes the sound. For the most part, Eqing is just to cut out the unheard frequencies to give room for other sounds and eliminate muddiness EQing your main sound should leave it more open, A background sound or pad can be Eq'd more as its already being more hidden behind the main sound. Go into your individual tracks for Hi Hats, Snares and claps, And individually EQ the high ends of the frequencies a few DB higher While EQing 808s, Make sure to EQ OUT anything lower than 30hz to eliminate muddiness after cutting out the high frequencies While Eqing kicks, after leveling your high and low filter, use the bandwidth knob to add a peak to your lowest side of the EQ to focus on the hit of the kicks. This will make you kicks HIT HARDER! Add limiter to 808 and lower the ceiling to the peak, Cutting out any small spikes that dont match your main peaks( small spikes that go above your fat peaks if that makes sense) (edited) REVERB YOUR BACKGROUND SOUNDS (non leads) IN THE MELODY! This will make them less focused on and glue them into your beat better. Slight reverb on HATS to tuck them into the background (pretty much any sound you dont want to sound so in your face) Slight Delay effect to your Snare to tuck it away and give it a little bounce! Level your sounds LAST!!! You can Gain Stage (Gain staging is to make sure no sound hits above -12DB BEFORE you send it to the mixer to be leveled, FX'd and EQ'd) NOTE** This will make some sounds have to be increased on the mixer slide, Some people don't like to turn UP sliders above default levels

Loved the video but I'll request you to don't play any background music while you're comparing before & after, knowing the difference is harder in that case..

this video is everything that's wrong with modern beat makers, too focused on following certain sets of rules instead of challenging yourself, getting out of your comfort zone, understanding sound design or things like sound amplitude, i swear to god if you always follow the first guy that says "yEAh bRo yOuR dRuMs donT hIT HaRd" you'll be stuck using the same regurgitated beat structures and trap sounds that have been existing for almost 20 years

You are correct, but now alot of producers push the kicks and 808's so the clip. i put a T-racks limiter on the master before i start anything. then i push the 808 and kick, plus i send all my drums to a buss,and add various things to it. but yeah what you did in this video is what i started out with doing. its a great starting point for producers. Great work.
@Finnathegod
@Finnathegod 3 года назад
yeah, mixing this way is definitely not something you need to do consistently, but it definitely helps if you're trying to distinguish yourself from other type beat producers. It also helps with training the ear.
