Why is it split into quarters? Like how did we determine the origin of replication and the direction on each side is different, 5' to 3' | 5' to 3'?
@sciencebygabrawy
@sciencebygabrawy 3 года назад
Hi Mengting, all we know, or what we have observed is that these enzymes appear all along the length of the DNA strand. Helicase, begins to unzip. There really isn’t “quarters,” so to speak. We break the bubble up into quarters only to describe what’s happening inside. Make sense? Does this answer your question?
@IceCreamMT

@@sciencebygabrawy Hi, I still have a following up question. How come it's the same DNA strand but one has a complementary strand that is the leading strand and the other is the fragment?

I liked this explanation so much but I still have some questions: 1)Does each strand have two DNA Polymerases III? (like one for the right and the other for left side) or is it the same DNA Polymerases III on each side that reads (from 3' to 5') and on a strand the synthesis of dna is leading and on the other it isn't? (forgive my mistakes I actually study all of this in french so...) 2) Dosn't the replacement of the rna by dna by the dna polymerase I happen at the same time that the dna Polymerase III makes the other fregment of okazaki and at the same time that the ligase does its work? 3) why didn't you talk about the SSBP ?
@AustinMFitness
@AustinMFitness 6 лет назад
My book is saying DNA moves from 5’->3’ direction not 3’ to 5’ which is correct???
@nardonash6982
@nardonash6982 5 лет назад
The DNA polymerase (III) reads from the 3' end to the 5' end and writes 5' to 3'. The newly synthesized DNA strand runs from 5' to 3'

Could this process encode time?
@sciencebygabrawy
@sciencebygabrawy 3 года назад
Wow John what a great question!! I’d have to say yes. We know the rate at which cells divide. We know that our bodies are roughly one year old since most of our cells are replaced within one year. We could potentially time keep with incredible accuracy- like an atomic clock on a gps satellite! Great question!
