I just bought both of these from the Yard Mastery website and plan to sort of spoon feed these with my renovation in a few weeks. My question is...since it's made with peat moss, does it sort of act like peat moss in helping retain water for new grass seed? I assume it won't replace it, but should I plan on buying less peat moss to cover grass seed to help with water retention?

First summer lawnowner here. Previous owner did nothing outside and the owner before that was a madman (edging and drainage tube overkill) Learned a lot from your diagnosis videos, and now this. So I took the plunge on this fertilizer, looking to correct my soul test's deficiencies. The key selling point to me is the micronutrients: I am no biology wizz but I know soil is complicated and the fact they don't filler it and char this stuff was the part where I got out the wallet. Cry when you buy or when you use it. (That's not fair, it isn't too expensive.) Thanks for the infopacked post

you're welcome mitch! Glad you find value in my videos. Propeat is a fantastic product. its recently been picked up by homedepot.com . Keep in mind the miners available in the bag are not going to hit the plant as fast as spraying miners on the plant. you can find some good miners packs online. I like the rapture 4 0 4 , contains iron and a miners pack.

I picked up a bag of this stuff and will most likely start using it in the first part of July. (Low N program this year) Can't wait to see the results, looks like great stuff. One thing that concerned me on the BYU Study (per ProPeat's Site) is in the test they used 2 pounds of N per 1000 sq. feet. That is a ton of N for sure. This year on my turf, I will most likely put 2.5 pounds of N per 1000 over the course of 2020. Regardless, I can't wait to try this stuff out!

One point of confusion: I see some bags of ProPeat with a green oval "Greens Grade" label, and some without. Are there two different versions (granule sizes) of each product, i.e. "Greens Grade" 13-5-8 and "Normal" (large particle) 13-5-8? Or is it ALL "Greens Grade"?
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 4 года назад
everything on yardmastery is greensgrade. the propeat sold in brick and morter is not and the pearl size is similar to a competitor granular in size. the greens grade spreads so smooth and evenly. john perry shows the greens grade in his liquid vs granular video. I had a small clip of his video in this video to show the comparison and the comparison used was propeat greens grade.

@@pestandlawnginja Thanks for the explanation Jared. I recall in one of the first This Is My Lawn you indicated it was helpful to developing roots. I've used Revive in the past to treat drought stressed portions of my lawn but since following your advice and using humate products, I don't have those same issues. Wasn't sure how Revive Pro was different than Revive but seems like you use it more to treat problem issues. My lawn is in need of some iron to give the color a little boost. What are your thoughts on granular iron products like Iron 10 available for $25 for 50lbs bag at IFA. It's made by the Emory based humate company Life Earth that makes Great 8. It has 5% ammonium sulfate, 10% iron magnetite, 1% calcium and 36% humic acid. Seems to tick a lot of boxes of goodies but I can't determine if iron magnetite is a good plant available source of iron. Thought I'd put it down at 1.5lbs/1000.

@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 4 года назад
It depends on the needs of your area. I would contact your local agricultural department and see what the baseline NPK is for your area. most areas have a fairly common NPK ratio. ie my area is commonly low in potassium, mid to high in phosphorus and medium in nitrogen. I will use 17 0 4 early spring through may and then do 13 5 8 in my front to boost the potassium and free up phosphorus if and when it gets tied up (which happens to me on the regular). then in the late fall for my winterizer I use the 7 0 14. I shoot for 2.25lbs of N to 2.75lbs of N for the entire season.

Mr Ginga! for regular apps is the 17-0-4 or the 13-5-8 bag better? Also you have mentioned micro dosing before (something like every two weeks or once a month) but I can't find the video. What would you recommend for micro dosing with propeat in terms of frequency and pounds on the ground?

@pestandlawnginja 4 года назад
Hey Aaron! great question. to find out the lbs of N you take 100 / bag number and that tells you how many lbs of product to get to 1lbs N per 1000 sq ft. I recommend a quarter of lbs of N per 4 weeks if your mowing between 2 and 3 inches and up to 1/2lbs N if you're moving 1.5" or lower. for example if you use the 13.5.8 you would take 100/13 = 7.69 lbs of product to get to 1lbs N .5lbs N = 7.69/2= 3.85lbs of product per 1000 sq ft .25lbs N= 7.69/4= 1.92 or 2lbs of product per 1000 sq ft

@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 4 года назад
Great question Tiffany! Yes it will if you exceen 1.5lbs of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft. how you figure that out is taking the number 100 and dividing it by the first number on the bag. so for example if your bag number was 21.4.8 I would take 100/21= 4.76 . 4.76 represents the number of lbs I can put over 1000 sq ft and maintain 1 lbs of nitrogen. so if I applied more than 1.5x4.76lbs = 7.14lbs I would be at 1.5lbs of N per 1000 sq ft and have the potential of burning. I like to stay within .25lbs of N to .5lbs of N per application. I like the micro nutrients and iron to dictate my color and not the fertilizer. Hope that helps! Love seeing all these lady lawn ninjas slaying lawns!

I think this sounds great, but I’m reading the bag labels and need more help with what to apply, when, and how to apply it. I know I can dig in and do research, but it would be great if they had a system for idiots like me. My suggestion is they create a process of application throughout the season. You read my mind, I was planning on asking your thoughts about biochar. I understand at least wood ash is alkaline and if anything I need to lower my pH. You kind of address biochar in this video but what are your thoughts on it, does it add anything unique ProPeat doesn't? I've been interested in trying ProPeat as I like the increased CEC and humate/fluvic acid benefits of ProPeat. Currently using Healthy Grow Holganix 10-3-2. Ewing had a customer order several pallets and then renege on the order. They were selling it at cost for $16.50 so I bought 5-50lbs bags. You might consider it as something you'd like to incorporate in conjunction with ProPeat. The benefits of HGH is it is aerobically composted chicken manure so it retains all the beneficial bacteria in the curing process and then it is infused with the probiotic compost tea Holganix Bio 800. This gives it all the goodies of Molasses & High Fructose Corn Syrup 1.38%, Brewer’s Yeast .48%, Yucca Extract 0.01%, Endo Mycorrhizae 0.014%, Ecto Mycorrhizae 0.014%. It also has humic and fluvic acid along with 800+ total bacteria and 400+ total fungal. According to Holganix their formulation allows the 10-3-2 to double the bioavailable absorption of the fertilizer and additional nutrients locked up in the soil...so it performs like a 20-6-4. I'm thinking of alternating between HGH and ProPeat once I get through a little of my stockpile. If you interested here is a link to some more detailed information on HGH. healthygrowpro.com/products/hg_10-3-2-hx/
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 4 года назад
Sounds like a fun project. My opinion on bio char is it reacts similar to humates. However... living organisms are superior to the soil. For example.... kelp that has been dehydrated vs kelp that is still in liquid form. The living product will be more available to the plant.
@eugenieandrews8874
@eugenieandrews8874 4 года назад
@@pestandlawnginja That's my understanding too about biochar... it increases CEC and acts as a storage site for nutrients. Does All Green use probotic compost tea like Bio 800? Don't recall having seen you apply mycorrhizae lately. Is mycorrhizae something where you inoculate the soil at the start and then it's self-propagating or does it die out over the winter and need to be boosted in the spring at our elevation?
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 4 года назад
I like mycorrhiazae. I use it most on overseed projects and when soil is aqua phobic. It's expensive and not worth using unless you need to.
@eugenieandrews8874
@eugenieandrews8874 4 года назад
@@pestandlawnginja I believe you supplement with gypsum to offset low available calcium in our Utah soils. Another reason I liked Heathy Grow Holganix fertilizer besides the mycorrhiazae, bacteria and fungi is it has 6% calcium. So it provides a lot of the same benefits of Great Basin's soil conditioner with chicken compost and calcium. I supplement humates with granular and liquid Live Earth humates from IFA. Can trace minerals be provided by well irrigation water? For example, my city water has 380mg/L of calcium carbonate, which I would think would be plant available.

It knocks the socks out of milo. Milo has such a small quantity of Nitrogen and for areas like mine way too much phosphorus I can't put it down since we're already high in phosphorus. the nice thing about milo is it also contains micro nutrients but they don't know how much or what kinds of micros since it depends on the fecal matter in that batch. to get the same amount of N from milo then propeat you'd need 10bags to 1 depending on the N count. plus you get the water retention and validated micros from the propeat.
