This is our first time watching reaction to the movie Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011). Now hiding out in Eastern Europe, Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) is still struggling with the curse of the Ghost Rider -- the devil's bounty hunter. Johnny meets a priest named Moreau (Idris Elba), who asks Johnny to find a boy named Danny (Fergus Riordan) and bring him back. But there's a catch -- Satan (Ciarán Hinds) is looking for the boy too, and has a personal stake in the matter. But if Johnny can find Danny first and save the boy's soul, there's a chance Johnny can save his own soul as well.

Before Disney bought Marvel - Marvel Knights was supposed to be a production arm that showcased Marvel's darker, more violent, heroes. It was inspired by the Marvel comics imprint/team of the same name in the late 90's. The hope was it would've let up to a team-up movie like The Avengers. However because this and Punisher: WarZone flopped so hard, the idea was scrapped.

As a kid growing up in the 60's, I loved the Marvel Ghost Rider comics. At 70, I still ride my Harley! I enjoyed both of the films for what they were...pure escapism! I wish he would get a better treatment in the Marvel Universe. Sign me up for that!

@@moondog3056 I started reading Marvel comics in the early 1960s, so i don't know the exact date he debuted, other than he was one of my favorites. In 1972 when he got his own series, I was in Asia with the U.S. Army and being able to get to a PX and buy some comics was a treat and a break from reality.

This is from Taylor/Nevildine, a directing team that got their start doing skateboarding videos. They made "Crank" and its sequel and "Gamer" with Gerarrd Butler. One of them always gets a handheld shot of every setup while on roller blades. GR:SOV got pilloried by critics on release, and wasn't much of a hit when it came out, but it's got that same manic energy that made Crank and Gamer fun, applied to a Marvel Superhero movie, and the end result is a lot of fun in a wild, unique way.

If Nic Cage seemed a bit more unhinged in this one than in the first its because he kinda was. He practiced voodoo magic to get into character. He painted his face black and white, wore black contact lenses, sewed ancient Egyptian relics into his jacket, carried magical trinkets in his pockets then walked onto set and didn't say a word to the cast and crew and it terrified them. The fact they were scared of him empowered him to go full gonzo with his performance and that literally carried the movie.

With the multiverse there is nothing stopping the old characters making a reappearance even if it's just a cameo, from this, the fantastic 4 or blade. Marvel needs to do more cameos as it's a great way to tie in those older films.

Marvel Knights was an initiative to bring more adult stories to some of the Marvel properties. Some of what happens in the movie is based on what was happening in the Ghost Rider Marvel Knights comics at the time.

Fun Fact: The kid who played Danny (Fergus Riordan) in this film is a photographer in Scotland now. He was actually born in Spain and is half Scottish, half Irish in real life.

There was actually a punisher movie in the 80s starring Dolph Lungren as the punisher, and Louis gossett Jr as his ex partner. It's a little more closer to the comics origin of the punisher being a cop who's family is killed, not an ex FBI agent or ex special forces soldier. Think you guys might like it

Then they were murdered, and his home was destroyed, which lead the whole world to assume that the whole castle family was dead. He just went underground and in full batman fashion waged a one man war on crime in ALL it's forms

If you haven't seen it, look up the footage of Nicolas Cage doing the motion capture performance for Ghost Rider. He's in full LED and makeup doing all the roars, evil cackles, and weird dances. He put it all into this performance and you can tell he had a blast doing them. Honestly, as weird as it is, I actually think this movie nails the Johnny Blaze/ Zarathos dynamic far better than the first one. It's weird, wacky, and kinda badass but that's pretty much how a lot of Ghost Rider comics are, especially the Johnny Blaze eras.

Yes! please watch all the rest of the Pre MCU movies. Good or bad they are still worth watching and reacting to. Blade Trinity, Daredevil (theatrical or Directors Cut), Elektra (Directors Cut), Punisher: War Zone, Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Hulk (2003), Fantastic 4, Fan4: Rise of Silver Surfer. But probably not Fan4stic. That last one is viewer discretion advised.

You, guys, should definitely chock out Punisher: War Zone and also The Punisher'89. The last one is critically underrated. Yes, it took the least from comic books, compared to other versions, but nailed the spirit of the character right on spot.

So, if i remember correctly, Johnny Blaze, as well as any who have been Ghost Rider, do share their body with another entity that is "The Rider." In the comics, it has been so many variants, Zarathos, Noble Kale, etc, but the idea is that the host can weild the power of the Rider, like skull form and all, but will not be able to weild the full extent of the Rider's power, which is like, godly celestial power, unless full control has been surrendered to the Rider spirit, so when the skull is turned on it is possible for it be him or the spirit, either or.

Im so glad somebody else watched this movie, i kept thinking i was hallucinating watching GH:SOV, that only my fevered mind would vomit forth, but it was a goddamn blast experiencing this cult classic! I loved the idea of Marvel Knights too back then, Netflix definitely took guidance and some inspiration from the Pre-MCU films with daredevil and subsequent characters with commonalities and vague continuity between shows. It was fantastical and real. Everyone working on those shows were amazing too. Anyway, yeah, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is objectively better than the other Hollywood release, imho. Its wild, disjointed and unhinged. It definitely spoke to to its reference material alot better than the other one (that shall not be named). I loved Crank and Gamer. This fits right in, lol.

The one in Agents of SHIELD was the Robbie Reyes-version, a latino guy who drives a car. The Johnny Blaze-version did make a cameo in one episode of AOS when the Reyes version showed up, but only in his Ghost Rider form, there was no well known name playing him. This movie looked better and even the design of Ghost Rider looked so much more bad ass, plus Cage doesn't have an obvious wig this time, but the problem is the writing. The plot is not bad, but it's kinda weak and the writing makes this movie not that great.

This movie isn't technically a sequel to the first film. They wanted to do things differently for the second one. It's more of a spiritual sequel to the first.

I also like comic movies with a touch of camp to them from time to time... that being said, you guys should also finish the Blade trilogy for the same reasons.

If they reboot Ghost Rider (not that Marvels worth anything any more) they should focus on Danny Ketch and set it in the 90’s just like when Danny was first introduced. Danny is Johnnys estranged younger half brother in Marvel and became ghost rider when he and their sister were ambushed at a junkyard by… well ninjas.😂 Not the same Danny in this movie at all, they probably just used his name for some soft connection in this film. Danny’s the Ghost Rider who’s responsible for the modern biker look that’s synonymous with the character, where as Johnny just wore his Stunt cycle suit as the rider. Super cool.

Blaze has the soul of a fallen angel inside him, when night falls, Johnny's soul takes a back seat while the.angel takes over. I want to see what he does to a Lamborghini Aventador. Some things rot slower than organic, others like plastic takes forever to rot.

I mean theoretically, if the alcohol content is high enough to continously kill any bacterias, and if it's stored properly, like air tight bottle that doesn't let sunlight hit it (Sunlight can turn flavors in any alcohol) you could theoretically drink it. I don't know if it would taste good, or what, but you could. If it's exposed and air is touching it and germs and all that, you could still drink it maybe if the alocohol content is high enough, however it would taste like vinegar, as the alcohol would definitely kill any bacterias and germs, but it would sour the tannens and flavor.

The GR from Agents of Shield was Robbie Reyes. His origin was changed in the show to where Johnny stumbled upon Robbie after he crashed his car. Johnny gave Robbie the power to save his life. Robbie is dope. He drives a Charger instead of a motorcycle, and his trunk is a portal to hell. Only thing I don’t like about his version is that his skull is chrome and has a kind of robotic look to it.

20:54 This is where his over the top acting works, and that this demon that possesses him is not normal at all. It's manic, it's insane, and likes to mess with him as he's emerging. A quick close-ups and sped up camera gives off that paranormal activity vibe; this is a possessing spirit that is not in the least human and all the way crazy.

Look at what they did with Matt Murdoch in She Hulk though lol, that should tell you all you need to know of how they'll approach Daredevil and the amount of "Respect" they'll give him. Like sure that was one outing for "comic" relief, and they did ok in No Way Home with Matt, but really that's 1 pretty good thing, and one pretty bad thing so at this point it's 50/50 what they'll do.

I don’t understand how they got his soul back, Mephisto has his soul so did they ask Zarathos (the spirit In Johnny) to get his soul ? That doesn’t make any sense how mere humans could steal from mephisto

Pre MCU movies to check out: Howard the Duck (1986), The Punisher (1989), Daredevil (2003), Hulk (2003), Fantastic Four (2005), and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). Nic Cage's crazy antics makes sense if you consider the rider has been with him a while already.

Id LOVE to see a M rated Ghost Rider movie, there is too much untapped potential here. Is like Deadpool in a way man, you gotta make it DARK, with a touch of comedy if u want. But imagine a big budget GR movie where he does creepy horrory stuff like in his battles like with those uncanny short warps and the swinging, having a blast burning people alive, holy shit

30:08 this is an iteration of a character that appeared in the 1990s ghost rider series. He's called Blackout. Although the source material has him able to cause instant darkness, he's more vampiric and was born a demon.

Turning that giant excavator to a demon ride was a pretty cool moment. But in the comics, each rider is limited only to one ride, except for the most powerful ghost rider, the All-Rider.

No. All Ghost Riders can turn anything into their personal ride. Johnny Blaze, in his current ongoing series, possessed a truck, a train, and a police car. Alejandra, while she rode on her bike, possessed a Japanese bullet train during her run. While Robbie showcased possessing a lot of cool stuff, from a simple tractor to riding on the Silver Surfer's board, the All-Rider hasn't shown anything that a regular Ghost Rider can't do other than controlling symbiote. Correct me if Robbie's done anything extraordinary that we've not seen the other Riders do.

I just came across this one issue where they were hyping Robbie up like "he could do what no other ghost rider could" and "he is the perfection of being a ghost rider." (Not direct quotes, just sorta laying out what they implied.) On the extraordinary side, he did use a whole planet as his demon ride. That's pretty nifty.

@@ianrosenbalm6555 The All-Rider is an Omniversal Spirit of Vengeance, and Robbie in the main Marvel timeline is the only one that became a Ghost Rider...even though there are alternative universes where Robbie became a Rider(What if? and Venomverse). Personally, it's a case of "cool idea, poor execution." And yes, Robbie possessed a planet. It was from an alternate universe called Doom the Living Planet. I re-read the comic and, while it said that it was his ride, he actually reconstituted the remains(because it was dead apparently. I don't exactly known about that one haha) and use it to plug a hole in a dimension. So, it's more like he use it as a cork.

In the Marvel comics, "Marvel Knights" was the comic book equivalent of TV-MA TV shows. Titles like "Ghost Rider", "The Punisher", and others could go somewhat "darker" and "mature" than the titles under the regular Marvel imprint.

Well, if you're looking for pre-MCU Marvel movies, don't forget about the 2003 Hulk movie, with Eric Banna and Nick Nolte. Marvel Knights was an idea to use the darker, more violent characters of Marvel in an Avengers/Defenders style team-up movie...it got scrapped when most of the early Marvel movies (mainly the darker ones) bombed at the box office. Mephisto is short for Mephistopheles...Marvel used the shorter name cause DC already had use of the full name in their comics. 36:15 Dunno if anybody ever tried drinking it, but they've recovered bottles of wine from shipwrecks in the Mediterranean dating back to Ancient Greece...pretty sure it's closer to a vinegar than a wine by this point, but I guess you could find a way to water it down enough to restore it to some semblance of a drinkable wine again (ancient Greeks and Romans both traditionally watered down their wine to begin with; wine was cheap and it was an easy way to purify their water).

Ok kids, fun fact time(strap-in and bear with me because this is deep) The kid in the movie(Danny) has the same powers as the Rider because in the comics, he is Johnny Blaze's long- lost brother. Danny is to become the third rider with a different spirit of vengeance. At one point, Zarathos kills Danny, but he is resurrected. This happens after Johnny and Zarathos are separated by the soul Crystal. I'm gonna stop here because it gets more convoluted

If you want ideas for other comic book movies to try. I recommend Darkman with Liam Neeson. I found out later that he is actually a Marvel character. Another good one is Mystery Men. That movie is hilarious and has a fantastic cast.

Heck, if you watch this movie, you have to watch the two Crank films, starring Jason Statham and from the same directors. They are largely why this film got made, and those movies are absolute bonkers!
