That Australian dad was hilarious. So many dad jokes. I haven't been through immigration in Japan yet, but from all I've heard before, it seems like such a breeze. Can't wait to visit. And "bring a pen"....solid advice. One thing I always seen to forget, even after traveling so much.

I’m married to a Yokohama girl, have lived in Japan and visit once a year from the states for the last ten years. I love the place, the food, the history, the trains,everything. Except for an occasional sneer from the older men at the spa,I feel safe and comfortable there.

3 monts is 90 days. If you are allowed to stay 3 months that mesns not more than 90 days counting from the first day of entry (mentioned on immigration stamp in passport).

I studied in Japan for one year (from 2015 to 2016) and, when I went there, I went with a group of about 50 people (most going to the same university). Given the fact that we had a certificate of eligibility and a visa, we were taken from the "normal" immigration queue and asked to wait a little bit because they would allocate some people to process our group's requests, since it would take a little longer (they would have to issue zairyuu cards for all of us). For that reason, it took from 20 to 30 minutes until our queue started walking. After that everything went very, very smoothly. When we went to collect our baggage, there was even a person taking care of it (she was grouping the suitcases by its owner). Conclusion: it took a while, but I have nothing to complain about it.

@9:14 she said i’m Filipino and been in Japan and just coming back that is why it is easy Me: Immigration in the Narita airport is always not a problem. Passing immigration is always easy as long as you are honest, doesnt carry any illegal/unauthorized item and no criminal record. The problem for Filipinos planning to enter Japan is acquiring a Visa. If you are a Filipino you need to get a Visa. And there are many types of Visa depending on your purpose of stay. For Filipinos, First they MUST have a Visa that show the purpose of stay in Japan. And getting a visa is very hard and CAN BE DENIED anytime without discussing to you the reasons why you are denied (Such a shame for a so called allied countries). Second, when you apply for a visa you will be ask to show proof (Bank account) that you have the money to spend for your stay in Japan (that is understandable but if they are looking for too much amount then it is not). The embassy will also ask you to submit a form about your stay in Japan. In that form they will ask the Dates of stay, What is your plan on the said dates, the hotels or place your going to stay on that said dates And contact number on every place of the said hotels and dates. In most cases they will be asking proof of your reservation on the hotels you mentioned. If your visa application is denied by the embassy you will be waiting for another 6 months to be able to apply again for a visa (if one of your goal is to see the sakura then good luck with that and wait for another year). A short history: The Imperial Japan bombarded Manila to little more than rubble. The Philippines was colonized by Japan but the Philippines never did colonized Japan (i don’t know if back then Philippines can). Japan and Philippines is a neighboring country and now allies but the rules are very different and very strict for Filipino citizen. Did you know that if a Japanese citizen plan on visiting the Philippines, all he/she need is a plane ticket that show the date of return to his/her country. The Japanese embassy in Manila Philippines is way too much strict on letting Filipinos enter Japan. I am no expert on these legal matters this is just my observation and opinion Our God created every human being equal and a world for everyone to live harmoniously. Only human and its beliefs makes boundaries and inequality

Immigration is easy only for Filipinos with japanese descent if you ask me. Usually children of Japanese immigrants back in the 30's are considered Japanese by birth and the Japanese embassy has a policy on that. This works for Long term residency visa, and that person can change it after 5 years and they can work wherever they want as long they can speak the language.

I just went to Japan for the 4th time and it took me the longest this time. It took me 20-30 min. I'm a US permanent resident but I have a Philippine Passport, so I had to get a tourist visa. I had to bust out some Japanese because their system was not finding my visa I guess and they had some more detailed questions for me. I had no complaints though because they were very polite about the situation. Gotta love Japan!

When I first arrived in Japan, I spent a very long time at customs based on the information I gave at passport control and had to answer many questions there. Because I was in China and North Korea before. It was and may still be forbidden to bring anything from North Korea. Everything was stored for a fee until I left the country. The people from the airport and customs were super friendly at all times. Almost exactly a year later it was Corona. I was so happy that I was able to enter the country on March 18th, 2020 and then spend five and a half wonderful weeks all over Japan. I love this country and will come wherever possible ... soon for a sabbatical year too.

I found immigration to be quick and seamless, even at peak season. Both trips I landed in Haneda, and the second time transferred to Kansai, and from Itami back to Haneda. The first time in I got two cards on the plane. The yellow customs/baggage claim you get every time, but at least on the first time in you also get a small white card that you hand in with your passport. I don't remember getting that on the second trip. My second trip was in August(peak tourist season, and summer vacation for Japanese) and I never stood in line for more than 5 minutes. Also, the time of day makes a difference. I always try to fly over night if I can. Immigration is always quieter after 6pm.

I lived in Japan for a year in 2013 as a student, and I am worried that there is now too much immigration to Japan. I know this view is very much under attack these days, but after a lot of deliberation, I believe now that the reason why my time in Japan was so awesome is because it is so Japanese. Japan must keep being Japan. Sorry, if this hurts anybody's feelings, but it is my honest opinion.

Totally agree. When I hear Japanese people spout western pc thinking...which you may not be referring to but nonetheless... Japan not being pc is why Japan is so awesome or at least different. They need not be afraid to be themselves and cherish their way of thinking. Japan don't do USA do you. Have kids - lots of kids and keep immigration low low.

The embassy-issued visa does help to keep out the riffraff. Especially as a visa (Myanmar, Vietnam, China) will only be issued up to 10.00, so no chance of the heavy drinkers making it.

I've been so many times come in and back to Japan. 99% my experience during immigration process was fine, only one time in Narita where I believe suddenly so many young officers sitting in the immigration box, and they check my passport (with so many stamps of arrival and departure from japan already) and they still took more than 10 mins to decide before finally they let me pass, kinda awful experience. I think those youngsters are trainee or something.

I’m going there in 2 weeks, I’ve got asthma and will carry my inhalers, do I need doctor’s note for immigration?
@susie2251
@susie2251 6 лет назад
IWIofficial It depends what medicine is in the inhaler. Some inhalers have medicine that is banned because the meds are a type of amphetamine. You should research to make sure your specific meds are okay or are prohibited before taking them with you, as you can into significant trouble if you try to bring in a prohibited drug, even with an RX. If you can’t get the answer online, you should contact the authorities in charge. Even if permitted, it is best to have a doctor’s note for prescriptions but not absolutely required. At a minimum, you should have a copy of the prescription with the inhaler (if you lost it, your pharmacy can provide a copy). It’s probably too late for you because it takes a minimum of two weeks, but there is a process to get approval for importation of prescription drugs that would otherwise not be permitted. In that process, you would be issued an import certificate called a “yakkan shoumei” if you wanted to google it.
