We have owned our 1st edition since March 27th and absolutely love our car. My wife and I are in our 70's so adapting to new apps isn't easy. Free charging at Electrify America, along with tax incentives made our decision over the Model Y. Your glowing reviews also tipped the scales.
@@laloajuria4678 The UI is simple and easy to use. I have no complaints. I have a EA station in my hometown. I’ve been using it almost everyday. I haven’t been charging from home. I’m waiting on my home charging equipment to be delivered. My first trip to EA station didn’t go well, but that was my fault. Once I learned how to active the station using my EA app things went perfectly. I drove it out of state once to another EA station and it went perfectly. So far so good. The 4 year 50000 mile warranty was a big deal to me.
@@top10cars2 i was just curious if the built in map has option to travel Corpus Christi to Grand Canyon. I know my tesla can do it, but I'm excited to try VW.
Kyle, I was very surprised to watch this video today. I live in Wilmington and Lisa lives in my neighborhood!!! I recognized all the streets you drove. I’ve enjoyed your videos and they really helped us choose an electric vehicle. We almost bought the ID4, but went with the Mach E instead. It was a long wait, but our Mach E arrived last week. We are still learning about EV ownership, but so far we agree with everything Lisa says. If you are in Wilmington again, my wife and I would love to meet you. Also, we’d also love to meet Lisa if she is willing to meet a new neighbor.
just drove my ID.4 ProS home yesterday; 65 yo TX lady ready for a change! LOVE so far. u gassy folks need to test drive an EV and see what you're missing. yes there's a learning curve, but it's FUN and good for the brain to learn new things. and so necessary for us to transition to a better cleaner way. TY for this video, so helpful and encouraging to the unsure among us.
Great "average person" review! Kyle, because of your past ID.4 road trip videos, I purchased an ID.4 1st edition. I've had it for a month now. White exterior, white interior - the same as Lisa's. I am getting about 275-280 miles of range on a full charge. I drive around town during the week and out of town day trips on the weekends. Like Lisa, I had to figure out by trial and error how to use public fast charging. Also, like Lisa, it's a great experience not to have to stop to buy gas anymore.
Kyle, great video. Editing tip. Record B-roll to splice into the interview. For example, she mentions the ‘dashboard’ show the steering wheel display and highlight particular details she mentions as she talks about them. Take your content to the next level my friend!
Thank you for showing a middle aged woman adopting new tech! I didn’t like the ID4 for me (didn’t fit me well-Visibility limited) so I am still on the search for an electric for me.
I would like if they could bring in the VW ID.3 that's a good city size car (not as big as the ID.4) that I wanted but it's only for the European countries right now. Same thing with the Kia soul ev. Yup! Search continues for me too.🥴
I like the ID.4 and all the incentives, but the Hyundai Ioniq5 is lit🔥 I live in Eastern NC as well, and this video was helpful. I would like to see our state have some incentives for buying EV.
Great video, I'm trying to get my mom into an ID.4! Her current car is a Lincoln MKC that gets a measly 20 MPG 🤮 She needs something with a plug ASAP and our local VW dealer has 3 ID.4s on the lot!
Your g/f’s mom (and her dad) rock! I’m 65 and got my 2021 Model 3 at the end of March. I love it! Like she said, I’m never going back to an ICE car. My wife is looking to replace her 10 year old Camry. In the process of car shopping, she’s gone from ICE to hybrid to plug-in hybrid to BEV. At the top of her list is the VW ID.4 (she’s 49, so a bit younger). She took one out for a test drive the other day and was very impressed. It will be interesting to see what she chooses (the Kia Niro is on the short list, as is the Bolt). I’m going to show my wife this video. I think she’ll get a kick out of it. Great job!
What a fun interview and great example of just how good the ID4 is if Kyle's almost-mother-in-law has taken the plunge. Also, Kyle's enthusiasm for the ID4 and ability to persuade might have something to do with it too. :-)
We have a base model ID.4 Pro and we love it. It's a great commuter for me and does a great job as a family car, too. I find any excuse to drive it instead of our other ICE that is so bad on gas it costs us at least $15 anytime we use it.
Yes I agree wholeheartedly. It amazes me how anti EV most people I talk too are. The pros like economy, maintenance, convenience, quietness, responsiveness and advanced technology outweigh any ICE car. The base ID 4 is an excellent car and I wish you happy and safe motoring. Greetings from Ireland.
@@AntonioLop14 taxes and destination fee was normal, no surprises. I didn't put much down because I plan to put all of the tax credit and some of our tax return right on the principal. I only had about 3k down between my trade and deposit. My payment is $750ish a month because I chose a 60 month term. If I had taken the max term it would be be in the 5s. It will be less after throwing the tax credit at it.
Bought a first edition ID4 in early June- commute about 110 miles round trip a day, 500-600 a week. Coming from a 2019 BMW 640gt, I was worried about comfort and driving experience. While the ID4 is no 6-series, it’s fun, comfortable, and in my opinion, an incredible value for the money. Compared to the XC40 pure electric and Mach-e, very happy with my choice. Thanks for your reviews, helped me pull the trigger!
I purchased my 1st Edition ID. 4 about the same time your mother in law did. I am 64 years old and did research before I purchased the vehicle. Love it. I have had one issue where it died, went to the service department for 9 days. Service center told me the sound generator went out causing comm errs. Vehicle would not go out of Park. Had a loaner 2021 Tiquan, no comparison to the ID 4. Got it back today and really was glad to get it back.
I am a Tesla Fan Boy but it is great to watch your reviews of other cars. It is also super to see folks other than "first adopters" moving into the EV space.
I am really enjoying this channel. Thanks for all you do to introduce us all to EVs and their capabilities. Because of you, I am considering one of these myself. Love your coverage of the ID Buzz as well.
This review made me smile! I just decided on an ev for my new car. Looking to buy in the next year. Your videos have really gotten me excited. I decided I like the look of this one as is comparable to my CX-5, and started to look for reviews. Your videos have helped a lot, especially coming from a Tesla driver which has been gold standard so far. I appreciate this car for what it is and that it fits the budget better!
Once again Kyle another great ID4 video. Your ID4 videos prompted me to go electric. I was able to get the white FE and love the car. I cannot tell you how many times I watched them and studied them to make my decision. You are so personable I feel like we are friends now!!
Iv'e been waiting to order my AWD Pro ID.4 for over five months, reservation in since September 2021, it's now February 2022 and still no word. It's looking more and more like it will take over a year to get a car.
Every year we have a family vacation in the North Carolina coast. This year it'll be on Oak Island. It's hard to decide if the ID.4 is the car to take since there are no fast chargers and it's very doubtful there will be a level two at the rental. I can not wait for the charging deserts to be made more accessible.
Definitely agree, my mother is mid 40s and is many things but being tech savvy is not one of them. This is the perfect car for her to get into electric cars, she absolutely loves it!
I’ve just ordered a Pro Performance ID4 here in the UK. I put the order in just before Christmas and have had a delivery date of approx 40 weeks! I’ll be lucky to get it by October 2022. Crazy. :(
Our first electric car is an ID.3, we love it :) No, and it‘s not complicated ;-) Our first long distance trip was way less complicated than we imagined. Interestingly, A Better Routeplanner thought we might need to stop more often than we actually did. No issues with any of the chargers, thankfully.
This is a great video showing how Lisa has readily adapted to using an EV every day. I have a deposit down for an ID.4 w Gradient. My local Volkswagen Dealership, Tynan's was pretty knowledgeable. I'm excitedly looking forward to the day I own and drive an EV. I've been driving a Prius since 2011 after returning from the UK and have known for many years that I will not be going back to an ICE.
I got mine in July. I had been driving a fairly new Miata I loved but it wasn’t very practical. I was worried it was not going to be fun to drive. I was completely wrong, this car is fun to drive. I have made the charging work real well, even though I live in a condo. I supercharge like once every two weeks, maybe once a week if I drive long distance. And in between I charge in my little garage with 110V every night. The nightly 110V charging gets me enough juice to make it to work, drive around town, and back home where I just start the process over-again.
So, I have a buddy in Wilmington. I looked on Plugshare and didn't see any decent CCS fast charge stations in the area. There is one 'coming soon' but not built yet. The far more developed charging infrastructure is what still has me strongly leaning in the Tesla camp. The 50KW out by the wild boar is a little far out there.
I Love my ID4, my only issue is there is no AM Radio, I've listen to sports Radio my whole life & now I have to use iHeart Radio to listen to my station which uses data, phone power & the same annoying ads when iheart Radio 1st comes on
I’ve watched your RU-vid..and others… I ordered my ID4 last week..now an 8 month wait…. I was really unaware of the real cost..or lack of cost to own an EV. WOW…IM IN NOW. an ol ‘ dog (72) can learn a new trick
The dealership days are numbered. Many of the major car companies are now following Tesla business model by selling vehicles online. It make more sense in the business aspects. They can make more money than having to sell a bunch of vehicles at a wholesale price to dealerships. In reality, many salespeople don't care about the company's future, they just care about making that commission.
Wow this is good to see. So many car reviews are by auto people but it’s good to see what an average consumer’s experience is and their opinion of driving an EV. 🚙🔋
Kodak had a similar attitude when they invented the digital camera. Didn't work out well for them when they decided they would concentrate on selling film only.
Great review. Glad to hear the ID4 isn't that bad and that they fixed the infotainment systems lag. I wish she didn't lie and say it's fast though. Lol Chill mode on my Model Y LR would still smoke that thing.
DUDE! I just saw your (kinda) mother in-law (not sure what to call her) on Shipyard Blvd by the Wilmington Port. I can’t believe it was actually her, but it was! Lol. I was like, there is an ID.4 and, omg, that’s Kyle’s GF’s mom from the video I watched yesterday.
I really wish VW wouldn’t have discontinued their “normal looking”’ EV line in the US. The eGolf is amazing! A tried and true car model, simply removed the ICE components, and put a battery in it.
Kyle, I live in Florida and waiting for the Q4 e-tron. Still struggling with AWD or RWD. My question is: How is the acceleration in the RWD ID.4 for on-ramp entrances and passing on two-way roads (30 to 70 mph)?
I test drove it (RWD), and it convinced me to wait for AWD. It is totally enough horsepower for getting on the freeway and passing safely, but my problem was that the acceleration felt exactly like my old crappy Nissan Altima, and I want an improvement in the 'fun factor' if I'm going electric. It's no Tesla, but the AWD will be 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, which will be that electric fun we expect.
You should do one with my grandfather in Wilmington. He’s 80 years old and just got his first EV, a Model Y in December. His car already has been trashed as he uses it like a pickup on job sites.
I am an early Tesla adopter. I purchased the I.D.4 for my wife. Mechanically it does well. It is as smooth and quiet riding as my Model S and much more so than my Model 3. Sadly, electronically it has more bugs than even Terminix can handle. I took it to the VW dealership with a list of 17 problems. They kept the car two weeks and claimed all was fine. They knew nothing about the car. Volkswagen jumped the gun on this one in my opinion as far as the tech side of this car is concerned. As for now I.D.4 stands for “Incomplete Design” 4 now.
We are in a similar situation. I purchased a Tesla Model X in 2018. While not perfect, overall I love the car and I agree with you that Tesla is certainly the EV industry leader at this stage of the game. I've logged 85K miles on the X in just under 4 years, mostly in Arizona, but also a half dozen road trips as far away as Montana. I have an ID4 on order to replace my wife's VW Passat. I decided on the ID4 for economic reasons: Lower cost to purchase; $7500 tax credit and 3 years of free Charging on the EA network. These factors tipped the scale in favor of the ID4 vs. a Model Y. - Perhaps our vehicle will be more bug-free than your ID4 experience. I hope you can get your issues resolved.
VW just bought mine back last week. I would avoid the 1st Editions. They replaced my head unit three times and the screen kept going black, and then the speed odometer went black. The app only has three functions, Battery Level, Car Climate, and Find Charge Station. To be honest if it weren’t for the screen issues I would have keep the SUV, it really is nice inside, it rides well, turns on a dime!
You need to mention that when you renew your registration in many states there is an add on for highway use taxes you don't pay at the pump. WA is $250.
Actually this brings out a good point Unlike mostly all other dealers who send their new owners extensive surveys, nothing from VW, I think this is the way they could learn features for future software updates.
I loved this video. My car is approaching 10 years old and 200000 miles, and I’m looking a buying a new car once the prices and inventory levels get back to normal. I’m looking at a few evs though and this is one of my choices. Glad to see a “real person” review an electric car.
The ID4 is a great car. Idk why everybody besides Kyle has been ripping on it. It’s similar in personality to an i3 (for good reason). It’s a real bummer the 1st editions are all gone. It’s a bargain with the tax credit. Oh, and I’d love a toggle option to switch D/B on the gear shifter. I love regen braking and would love to have the option to not bump it down twice. I know the demographic is for people who are EV electronauts, but that’d be cool.
I feel the 1st reason for wanting an EV would be to be a part of the solution when it comes to the planers atmosphere being poisoned and the dependency of oil. What good is all this tech and looking smart trending towards EVs if we are only doing so to keep up with the Jone's? I do applaud those who think green though.
Hey my home Wilmington. Are you based out of Wilmington? Cool review by the way, i didn’t know about the id4 actually. Now I want to learn more. I have a very early pre-order for the cybertruck but not sure I will get that or something else.
I'm liking those seats.. I've only seen the black leatherette seats which look great(and the ok fabric ones) but these lunar grey look really good.. anyone have any comments? They look as good in real life?
I have a Y, husband wanted an EV and we put our deposit on an AWD ID4. It will be here next year. The part 3/4th through about the turning radius! It’s horrid on my Y! Glad it’s better on an ID4.
Also can you lock the car and disable the motion sensor alarm, so that you will not trigger the security alarm when the dog is in the car while car is locked ( window open of course). Something like Tesla's dog mod.
Yeah Electrify America has a lot of dead zones good chance for Charge point or others to come in with stations. However that's crazy what do you do if you're coming from Virginia on hwy 17 down to Myrtle beach, SC or I'd look to ride down to Moorehead City NC? Trips like this would scare me guess I would have to get an adapter for Tesla supercharger. 🥴🥴
Waiting for the Hyundai ioniq 5 or Kia EV6 - VW is nice but I think these have better overall features. Especially the 80 percent charge in 18 minutes.
