Carbs tuned for "sea level" start loosing power/boggin a bit around 4k feet due to it running a little rich, good news is it runs a bit cooler due to the extra gas. Good video!
@@bakerXderek Honestly it sounds like bogging due to low rpms. Watching your vids for years notice you up-shift early on the DR. Bogging a small engine engine puts extra stress on the piston skirt and cyc wall - which likely caused it to fail. I'm not saying to rev it to max on every shift but shift in the middle of the rpms. Basically what happens is instead of the explosion pushing the cyc even down the cyc wall under normal rpms is low rpms pushes it down but can't do it fast/evenly causing uneven wear and extra load on the bearings (and more heat). This is more important on smaller engines then large - doesn't happen in automatics since there is always slip in the torque converter. You can google why lugging your engine is bad for more info.
Air cooled engine should have three different spark plug temps, 40-80F standard temp, 80F+ for hot days 40F- for cold days. Will actually make your engine run way better with the right plug. 👌
My bro has a DR200, great little bikes but I'll tell ya, if you can come across a DR350SE snag it in an instant. That thing has the power you need for the road, a 6 speed transmission for high speed cruising and that low end grunt for climbing hills and sheit. I have a blast on mine

Hey man, just came across your mist recent vid and noticed the Dr! I ride a dr350 and man if you ever want to upgrade from the 200, its litteraly amazing. You cant beat single cyl, air cooled SIX SPEED suzuki man
DR350 hasn't been produced for nearly 20 years and few to be found with declining parts availability as major issues. DR650 or DRZ400 are much better practical options as they are still produced. DR650 is an air/oil-cooled engine suited for hot climates with easier maintenance, $1200+ lower cost, lower demand used market, and plenty of aftermarket options. DR650 has very reliable engine with nearly 3X the torque of DR200 and >2X the power at much lower rpm. It will get you to where you need to go without grenading at highway or even freeway speeds. Many swear by DRZ for lighter weight, looks, off-road capability but it is still a heavy bike that is significantly less practical on the highway. Realistically, most dual sport riders ride >98% of time on-road and off-road use is limited to gravel, open trails, or fire road not single track. DR650 fuel economy in stock form is about 50 mpg and fuel capacity for 150+ mile range is plenty for most with aftermarket tank options for those that need more.
@@kannermw again the dr350 trumps both in my eyes, SIX speed(drz is not), its lighter than the 400 and 650(yes the 650 has a higher highway cruising speed but other than that it lacks everywhere) my dr350 is updated 100% modern suspension,front and back updated plastics and graphics, it's vastly capable off road and its sweet cruising locally too.... Yes PLENTY PLENTY of bikes Trump the dr350 but with a big bore kit and some suspension mods it is far superior to the drz400
@@njmxjunkie3128 On the street it is no contest the DR650 crushes the DR350. At the end of the day the DR350 is not a viable bike to buy because none are available as they were last produced in 2000. Prove me wrong and provide one listing for sale in all of southern California that isn't a heap of junk.
@@kannermw I live in nj. Your right about them being uncommon(thats a plus to me) I own one and its great. Obviously it's not a highway cruising machine like the 650 but be serious the dr650 LOOKS like a dirtbike (kinda) but its got little to no capability when the pavement ends. The 400 is a good solid duel sport absolutely. But when you take into consideration that the drz400 has a 5 speed trans with rather short gears and that it weighs more than the 350 my 1990 trumps it. Also IF you know what your looking for parts are readily available. Does it have the strong aftermarket that the 650 and 400 have? No., but with a little knowledge and mechanical ability my 1990 DR350 (now a dr440) smashes the 400 and it beats a 650 all day untill you hit 70 and the dr650 pulls away from me. The dr650 has a highway cruising speed (stock) at about 70-75 with a max speed of just over 100mph.my dr350 cruises the highway comfortably at 70-75 aswell and maxes out at 94mph (depending on what sprockets I'm running)no it's not the easiest to find one that is mint but alot of them are out there in good to great shape AND the best part is your only looking at spending about 1500$-$2500 max on a creampuff that is a beast on the twisties, can go almost anywhere off or on road, single cyl air cooled, RELIABLE AS ALL HELL and your not on a bike everyone has.
I have my bike fully updated and modern, and basically anything I need for it ia a quick eBay search away. No I'm generally not getting anything in stock at the local store, all my parts are ordered online (but I also save a ton of money that way)

bakerXderek A few years ago I visited Cali and went to the Sequoia national forest. Biggest trees I’ve ever seen. Made a stop coming down the mountain, and saw some brown bears playing in the distance. Really cool thing to see. All them nature ropes. I really enjoy your mountain rides and seeing all that. Some "Tips" for helping motor last . Full Synthetic Oil. Change often . You have an after market 'Can' on there. Make sure the carb jetting is good. Run too lean,.... Motor cooks ..W/jetting install high flow air cleaner ,and do not remove airbox, but cut some holes in [see dr 200 forums] Try a cooler Spark Plug. Nice 4 July Vid.......
Hey BXD have you ever ventured out to Wrightwood just north of San Bernardino those are some beautiful mountains and it's probably got a lot of unexplored areas
Have you ever considered getting a small two wheel drive pickup truck to haul the DR long distances so that you can unload and explore? Maybe avoid the hi-way wear and tear. I'd keep that DR to much shorter exploration trips if I were you. If you can't do the hauling thing, it might be time to think about a large dual sport, or adventure bike. I think your channel is tailor made for some adventure bike ropes. seems like your riding buddies have larger bikes anyway.

I had a good 4th, took the new motard to our Independence ride in Houston. Glad i took the bike out for its first, and only ride. it was stolen a week later. 2 bikes stolen in 3 months...
