Interesting that ACE still requires the doghouse glitch. That's been a staple of any% for so long. Now i wonder if there is ACE for the non-DX version, and if it's faster, or if this actually finally made DX faster.

ACE time for non-DX version is pretty close to this route, it just has screen warping. The time for it is 1 min 21 seconds and some frames. While I don't follow speedrunning much these days, I've apparently checked to see that I've held this record for about 8 years. I never knew the DX version of ACE was so similar though.

Back in the day I found out about the doghouse glitch from an old message board. I tried it out but didn't explore it much cause it was too confusing. However, I did find some late game items early and used them to cheese my way through most of the game. There was no way I could've found the wrong warp to the credits tho.

Sequence breaking makes old games fresh. You can then optimize the way through without having to backtrack as when you got the items later.

I still have my old 1.0 OG cartridge with the screen warp glitch. Discovered it on accident and it blew my mind, also found the doghouse glitch on my own too my child mind was entertained for weeks

Ah yes, ACE, I love it, especially when I stumble onto it. I remember playing Uninvited for the NES, when it came out. I loved The Kemco games, Deja Vu, Uninvited, and of course, Shadowgate. So long story short, somehow, after picking up a spell, walking left a screen, and some other stuff that was no way intentional, the screen froze, turned black, and the end credits started up over a black screen. I found out later on this was arbitrary code execution, and quite by accident stumbled on a glitch that allowed for me to complete a game that could take a few minutes to hours if you didn't know what to do, all condensed to a mere 16 minutes. ACE is best prevalent in Mario and Zelda games, but I have seem some decent Metroid and Final Fantasy entire game skips due to it. Kudos on the video, and all the failed attempts to get the frame perfect timing down, I know just how nano second picky that kind of thing really is.

Whoops. My first comment got bonked because of a link to the non-DX version of this speedrun. While I don't really speedrun games, I actually was surprisinged to have held the non-DX ACE WR time for over 8 years now? How time flies. I'm glad you covered this version as I had no idea how ACE for the DX version compared to the original non-DX version. To my surprise, this route is nearly identical! The non-DX version ACE can cut it down to 1 minute 21 seconds due to screen warping but there were are so many warps that can cause Link to get stuck or slowdown the game heavily due to sprite overload. As meme-y as ACE categories are, I had a lot of fun doing this and seeing others still talking about this short run makes me nostalgic. I'm glad people still give time to cover it, even if it's only for a couple minutes.

i actually speedrun this game for fun sometimes. i don't submit my times cause i'm playing on a device that isn't supported but my best is 5 minutes

it works on DX and the original. the originals run is a bit faster though due to an exclusive glitch

Why is it important to be on the Japanese 1.0 version? I know Japanese is usually used for ACE speedruns because it has more characters or whatever, but why 1.0 specifically? And even with less characters is it possible to perform a more limited version of ACE on non-Japanese versions?
