Love this stuff. I plan on buying Trane for my next house AC upgrade but I have heard their quality went down a bit from a few people. Hopefully they get back on track.

Jamie B. Senior Escalations Specialist Consumer Relations Residential HVAC & Supply That’s the department, who told me from day one, that the xl850 is working fine, and that I have a airflow problem. Feel free to call there. The xl850 got finally replaced with the xl1050, and all started working.

I would given thumbs up, but I just bought a xv20i with a xl850. The 850 thermostat was faulty from day one, but Trane refused to acknowledge that. Trane installed a wireless temperature sensor next to it, and it worked. But Trane told me( customer has a airflow problem, and the 850 is working fine- of course that’s a lie from Trane) Trane installed another 850, same problem. I told Trane from beginning the 850 series is faulty/ junk, and Trane is ripping off customers, selling this crap. After 4 weeks and with watchful eye of the attorney general, Trane finally replaced the second xl850 with a xl1050. And a wonder happened, the xv20i is working as designed. I proved that the airflow talk from Trane is a pure lie from Trane. Everyone who got a xl 850 installed in combination with an wireless temperature sensor got ripped off by Trane. Trane need to recall all xl850thermostats and replace with the xl1050 for free-no charge to the ripped off customers. System installled /finished 06/2020 St. Louis

Anybody know if the XL18i AC unit comes with a compressor sound reducer? Mine doesn't have one and was wondering where would I get one at?
@Theisnation212
@Theisnation212 3 года назад
Only problem I’ve encountered with these units are 1. Small rodents nest under outdoor fan housing (because it has a large gap under cover). 2. Suction line returning to compressor usually leaks because of vibration. Good units though.
@issaredneck758
@issaredneck758 2 года назад
is there any way we could stop this?
@Theisnation212
@Theisnation212 2 года назад
Not sure. If I’m Trane I’m considering relocating the true suction line so it doesn’t touch the bottom of the unit.

Have you heard about using Cold Plus refrigerant additive to get colder air and use less electricity? I heard that both commercial and residential units are saving between 8% to 18% utility bill savings...is that possible?

I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Here's why: I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting "better equipment", but that could not be further from the truth. Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus. Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone. Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone. On to #2! Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two "lovely" babies!! This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky. #3 This time the control module went out in the air handler! I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit... Again, I guess I am just lucky. #4 This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat. #5 Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!! Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house! They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of "QUALITY" that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them? Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct. Par for the course here with Trane. #6 The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the "Quality" I should expect from their brand. My Answer? Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again! #7 Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait. So, moral of the story? If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane. Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.

I kinda agree. Trane used to be great, but the quality has gone down significantly since 2015. When this video was made, Trane was still great

I had a new trane 2 stage installed about 7 years ago about the same time a good friend had his replaced. both of us had to replace the new trane condenser replaced within 3 years and both of us had the compressors fail at 5 to 7 years. They had 10 year warranty but that won.t cover labor. So the installer makes money off the failure and keeps taking the free gifts they get from Trane. experience doing something wrong, or is trane equipment no longer quality. My original AC

The reason most compressors fail early is the company installing them did not properly remove contaminated oil and pieces of debris from the old copper line sets during install. Also, they most likely did not evacuate the system into a deep vacuum to remove moisture from the system. All of this combines causes failures like you describe. When you report you had to replace a condenser at 3 years, I am not sure what you mean. Possibly you meant the condenser coil but not sure as the condenser is the entire outdoor machine?

They don't do that anymore. They use plastic now. Especially inside the furnace. Plastic blower motor housings and so on. There was an HVAC service tech video not long ago about some tiny piece of rubber or duct sealing material getting sucked into the Trane furnace blower wheel assembly and it causing an obstruction in the plastic blower motor housing the debris became jammed in the half centimeter gap between the edge of the motor and the spinning blower wheel that's on the motor axle. Until it burned out the motor and melted the blower wheel assembly plastic from the friction. Homeowner said their house smelled like burnt crayons for months and they couldn't figure out where it was coming from and whether the fumes were toxic. 5 years ago that same HVAC tech recommended Trane but not anymore. Today, according to that HVAC tech, Trane is now the BMW of the furnace/air conditioning world. They spend all their money on their brand and advertising while selling people a load of overpriced plastic under the hood.

I liked the old unit and Trane is back using those stupid ugly fan blades. Also Payne units don’t seem to be in good quality anymore. Also why would they oversize the unit from a 3TON TO 5TON?

As a technician, Train is the worst AC unit. They have the most problems and are by far the worst units to repair. The design of the units themselves is rediculously stupid. I just repaired an American Standard package unit today. They designed the unit so that you cannot remove the blower wheel housing. You have to remove the top of the unit to get the blower out. Rediculous!! I would never sell this junk.

What about Keep Rite? Our 19 year old condenser unit's compressor just seized up. The motor wants to turn but nothing otherwise. Should we replace it with another Keep Rite or another brand?

But when they let the coils rub against each other, they fail, like mine. They told me, just buy a new one. I've tried for a year to get a couple of locak dealers to upgrade my controller firmware. No luck so far.. Never buy Trane.
