The Last of Us struck me hard in 2013. I think part of what made the story so compelling is that it hits on parental instincts. Especially with men. At the time I was a single parent. My wife died in a car accident a few years prior. My daughter was 6 years old and in that stage where she was developing her personality. I watched the premier tonight and was in tears the entire time just because I knew what was coming. My daughter (who's 15 now) was curious, because I rarely ever let out that sort emotion in front of her. All I could say was how much I missed her mom and how she (my daughter) had become my only reason for living since.
Thank you for sharing. I can't even imagine what going through something like that would feel like. I'm glad the show is giving you two common ground to talk about these things. Men tend to have a difficulty of opening up emotionally (talking about myself specifically here).
It is so hard to live with the loss of a loved one. My deepest condolences friend. At the same time I'm glad you were able to find some solace in a game like TLOU. It truly is a masterpiece

One thing I'd like to correct you on is when you talk about Joel sharing his feelings after they escape from Boston. That line in the trailer was taken from the game. Ellie goes to apologize about Tess and he cuts her off and says they should keep their histories to themselves. I think that line goes on to develop his character like you were talking about too, because it demonstrates that he isn't willing to speak about trauma.

Most of the videos about any sort up upcoming media being released usually turn me to clicking off well before reaching the end and actually sometimes piss me off. It's just typically some dickhead unable to sound anything close to genuine while trying to build hype or at least thrive in it to some extent, which is fine but perhaps I'm petty lol. Regardless, I didn't watch this entire vid and glad I did before it was most excellent! I didn't know much about the show until a few days ago, then I found out it had the same creative team behind it who did Chernobyl. I reckon if anyone can take this game and do the adaptation justice than it would be those guys. Anyway, glad I found your channel! I really appreciate how you broke down parts of the game to speculate on how they might be adapted. Great watch!
Gabriel Luna and Pascal nail the roles, got me chills. Luna have the same voice as the actor from the game this surprise me a lot. Bella Ramsey even better. Best show of the year.
I'm definitely not ready to call it the best show of the year one episode in but I'm impressed with the quality for sure. Luna over the phone is SPOT ON Tommy. I legit thought that they had an easter egg with the original voice actor.
At around the 23 minute mark, you play a quote from the trailer that you didn't like. I just want to say that it's almost exactly what he says to Ellie in the first game (when she brings up Tess after they separate) if I remember correctly.
@@criticalcoffee It's when they leave Tess and Ellie doesn't feel good about it. Joel tells her to never bring up Tess and pretty much says to her what he says in the trailer.
Lol at the showrunners saying cordyceps infecting humans would go down like zombies wtf. Even if it did jump species, it would most likely be to more insects the human brain is just too complex to be a worthwhile effort for any fungus to try to spread itself in the way we see with TLOU.
23:05, keep in mind in the actual game, during a cutscene, Joel pointedly says to Ellie, "why don't we keep our histories to ourselves". I don't think it betrays anything that wasn't in the game, other than it's slightly less sarcastic

Furthermore, I have no idea what's going to happen in the third episode. I haven't seen it and will not see it until next Monday. These are predictions. For all I know they might head to Pittsburgh in the next episode. My predictions are simply based on the show following the narrative beats of the game.

Idk The Last of Us has been kinda analyzed to death honestly. Analyzing how it is adapted hasn't been done before afaik. But hey if it's any consolation, I do analyze the narrative in this video!
they have to change the actor for Ellie I'm sorry but I can't stop thinking if "she" is a boy or not and Ellie was a big part of the game so I don't want it to get f%$ked because they hired the wrong looking actor if you play the part you have to look the part but overall the first episode was fantastic , Cant Wait For More
@@e.t.3074 The question is WHY those types of characters were included in the first place when their sexuality had nothing to do with the overall story. I'm black and there is plenty of evidence of black actors/actresses that are placed in roles because of tokenism. Its embarrassing to have to sit through and WE ALL KNOW it when we see it. Its the same thing when it comes to the LGBT crowd. WE ALL SEE IT! You that belong to that fringe minority can see for yourselves how you are injected into every entertainment format. For what reason?
