Correction. No we don’t throw it out if a batch of syrup gets overdone. Nothing gets wasted in maple production. It can be made into high quality maple sugar, candy, extracted into other useful components, shipped to food production for natural flavorings and sweeteners, added to animal feeds, and hundreds of other markets
You're wrong, it loses it's value when it crystallizes, it can no longer be used for maple syrup. Therefore its not used in the maple syrup production.
Kris tian Apparently you don’t read very well do you. I said if it’s not suitable for syrup it can be processed into other products. Again,it does not go to waste. Maple sugar solids are by no means without value.
Galaxy Cat, Destroyer of Worlds yeah? obviously? also because it’s had DECADES of work put into it. if you spent 10 years making some food and accidentally messed it up last second you would find stuff to do with it because you spent ten years making it.
I found a very old handheld celluloid pencil sharpener like the ones in this video the other day. It was in my drawer of old pencils. I happened to have some new replacement blades for a modern sharpener like it, so popped it in. Works as good as new now and is very cool.
I love prosciutto crudo. I learned about it when I was stationed in Italy. Maple syrup is a "forever food" and will keep indefinitely, unlike the corn syrup imitations.
I found the curing of the ham and the maple syrup process were the most interesting. I remember when I was very young seeing the maple syrup being collected from the trees. Back then, they hung buckets to collect the sap. I did not know that there were different grades of maple syrup based on color and quality ^^
Most places in the US don't sell real maple syrup and I'm not talking about the plastic bottle stuff. Look at the glass bottle and if it says "certified Grade a amber *color* ." That means it has fillers and a blend of the left over syrups. It should say "grade A dark amber" or "grade A amber". There is no such thing as a "certified color". Fools you into paying double for fake syrup. BASTARDS: ITS A CONSPIRACY FROM TREES SPRAYED WITH SECRET CHEM TRAILS!
Vermont has laws protecting it's maple syrup. The even won a lawsuit against McDonnalds when the claimed their maple syrup was real. Vermont maple syrup is the best in my opinion.
a number of years ago canada had a syrup theft, i believe it took them over 5 years to figure it out, they let syrup sit for a number of years before bottling it..
The person who first ate that moldy ham had to have been starving! Who the hell would have thought that that ham was safe to eat?! It boggles my mind how some foods have made it to the table.
@ 19:00 "Gravity does all the work" @19:30 "the plantation owner has installed a motorised pump to literally suck the sap from the trees" So... not quite gravity doing any of the work.
holy shit. they actually got it right!! i was so ready to roll my eyes, but they got it right! the electrons in an electric circuit travel fron the negative to the positive pole. thankyou!
Nowadays we're used to call mp3-players by "their names" (brand name). But what do you think your iPod is? It's an mp3-player. The format mp3 entered the market around 2000 and it's still a common industry standard. You can't quite say that about the good old TAPE (thank God they didn't mention tapes 😉). 🖖
Alot of people nowadays do use their phones, but there are still those tiny mp3 players that you can charge on usb, i still like to use them for working out, and it wouldnt bother me to loose that thing, since it costs 2 dollars or so.
@@FreeDocumentary finny thing is, iPods aren't used much anymore, I haven't seen one in use in years. and ipods dosnt play mp3'a anymore as itunes format it to m4a or whatever it is nowadays. But why would you when you can stream spotify, withouth using data, to an Android device?
Ive been making maple syrup for about ten years and I never use a thermometer or hydrometer. I wait for it to foam and I let it foam about a min and it’s perfect every time.
Wondering if 6:05 is still true in 2020, because it's likely that larger pieces of infrastructure have been built since this episode was first being researched...
I think now there's an even larger utility battery in Australia. www.bbc.com/news/av/world-australia-45648303/world-s-biggest-battery-a-look-around-tesla-project
Man that's straight up clickbait. I thought i was going to watch a 20 minute video on maplesyrup batteries. I already know if there was one that was 1300 tons, it could power the entire state of alaska for 70 years and it would also feed the population there for at least 75 years in times of hardship.
No - it's true. Just like San Francisco sourdough can only be made in San Francisco because of the local yeast in the air. It's different everywhere else. If the ham is made elsewhere it's just prosciutto crudo.
With the maple syrup segment it states that they strain the syrup so no bugs are in the final packaging but when they show each one you can clearly see there is one bug in each one! 😖 perhaps they need to strain just a wee bit better or improve their quality control.
I was about to say the climate that could make a duplicate type of ham would be found in the Appalachian foothills of Virginia, mild humidity and mild temperature would make a very convincing Italian type temperature and environment. Weyer’s Cave, Virginia wouldn’t be bad.
I'm a sinner JESUS please forgive me for all my sins I know you shed your Blood for me on the cross at Calvary. Thank you JESUS for my salvation they your Blood. I love you JESUS. Romans ct...❤️k JESUSisLord!Amen
JB PJr ...You do know what enzymes are, do you? ‘Poop’ wouldn’t be such an accurate term... also that sounds disgusting, it’s not that funny, that’s just..-eh. No offense tho
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
Please understand, some USA northern states make a very sad attempt at producing maple syrup. Top grade maple syrup comes from Quebec, bits of Ontario, and places in the Maritime provinces in Canada.
Most Americans don’t use maple syrup we use an alternative called Pancake Syrup, it’s a very sweet thick sticky substance and looks like maple syrup but doesn’t have that very strong maple taste to it. Maple syrup is very strong tasting, like burnt butter or something very hard to describe. If there’s some handy then I’ll use a very small amount and then add pancake syrup on top of it to sweeten it up and lessen the maple flavor. I wish they would make it less condensed and put more corn syrup in it so that it’s not as strong because then I would like it
I genuinely just wany my house to be a combination of badgers from wind and the willows and bilbow baggins house. Just hams and jams and good drinks and a fire and books
Open boiler not a stove. And wood fired evaporators produce a higher quality product than gas fired. The wood is often a byproduct of the surrounding forest salvaged from wind or winter killed trees or recovered tops from logging operations. All of the hydrocarbons released in the process were never subterranean so the carbon footprint is neutral. Probably the most ethical of any ag product since the trees themselves are not impacted at all. In fact since a maple tree is valuable “livestock “ they receive better attention than others in the woods. Their sap is often worth more in 1-2 seasons than their timber value
