When I was appointed as COBE, the youngest in the state at that time, a brother came up to me & literally said “Congratulations, u’re the man now!” I said it’s just a new position w/in the Body, & and he just smiled and said “OK.” Lol

Last Saturday I joined the protest in Amsterdam. Stephen Lett gave a talk to all Dutch JWs...preparing them for what to do if he "goes like Elijah" (love that song😊), together with his other 8 buddies.... I guess they needed the stadium to fit his ego...🤣

Good one. I think we all remember the handful of brothers who were prominent at every convention and assembly, you know, the ones who read the accounts report, had key talks and never sat in the audience and paid attention. An experience I had was going to the assembly hall in Natick, Ma. for a memorial in 2013 where Sam Herd was giving the talk. First of all, it was an hour's drive with a 12yo who had to get up for school the next day, and second, Herd is a nut, a wacko. I had him for many years as a District Overseer and the off the wall stuff he would say was legendary. This memorial talk was no exception, typical weirdness. Anyway, after the talk several hundred people lined up like a receiving line to meet him and his wife. Such creature worship. I wanted to get in line to give him counsel for not being respectful and dignified by cracking jokes and going on tangents, but I was already feeling nauseous so I left😆

A smart sister would do well to find a mate with a good steady income. Watchtower titles and positions of authority do little to increase one's bank account. My wife and I, being removed, me, working and identifying my own narsasistic attitude have removed that from my life! Thank you for this podcast! It really reinforces what I've known for the last year. But my wife does not admit how bad her narsasistic attitude interferes with her psychological outlook on life. We were constantly instructed to seek out those who had an ego that was in a vulnerable state to indoctrinate them. It was viewed on the inside as being compassionate, but on the outside is now clearly predatory.

Thank you, Stacey, for covering this topic. Even those of us who tried to reach out for the responsibilities without wanting the titles were affected by the Society in an adverse way. But, what really got under my collar was when you quoted from "The Watchtower" of December 2023 (just a few months ago, and, thus, still current) in the article directed at sisters. In pushing the idea of marriage, the Society told sisters regarding their prospective mates: 'Remember, you'll be submitting to their headship.' That goes to something I've been saying about the Society for several years now, to wit, that there is absolutely no place within that organization for the ERA. At this late date, for the Society to put such a sentence as that in print underscores the misogyny which permeates the entire organization. That fact is also emphasized by your example of how the Society refuses to tell the life stories of sisters who are struggling to make ends meet while raising their children as single mothers and, consequently, barely managing to spend two hours each month in the field service. It's sickening to say the least. But, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who recognizes that. Thanks again, Stacey.

I remember that the head elders in my congregation, well ruling elders I should say were all weathly and had big houses and very expensive cars. One of them actually had a little black book with the names of JWs he believed would not make it through to the Paradise.... I myself saw it when I worked on the field service with him.

In my pre-JW world Chief Petty Officers had more clout than JW Elders. During my JW days I could see that the Elders authority only went as far as my acknowledgement of their perceived status would allow. Elders never had the power to cancel liberty and assign me to removing tile all day.

Field service in Nineveh. I had to laugh out loud. Good thing I wasn't sipping on my coffee at that exact moment 😅 Fine episode, Stacey. Oh, and I can't wait for my new body 🙄

Welcome back from your coffee experience, lucky guy, I would like to recommend to you if you see it, a yellow bag of Cafe Duran, Panama's finest. Having taken a tour of a Panamanian coffee plantation it was awesome. But anyways on the lines of ego, Wow, watched the week a brother was announced to be a new elder, his wife and children instantly stepped up on their own high platform and no longer greeted or shook hands to certain rank-in-file friends. Remember more than once getting my hand left out without a nod or say hello only to have them turn an walk away. When he lost his elders title because of his son being disfellowshipped, humble pie was served. When he got the title back the wife and daughters attitudes came right back on like a light switch. Also an elder in charge of outside cleaning once blew up on me after the end of Wednesday night meeting because I didn't remind him of the Saturday cleaning. Did it matter, it was always my son, myself, a different elder and two dedicated sisters. The rest were in high-an-mighty mode. The use of mowers after all, is grunt work for the most basic publishers. Not those who are sophisticated an doing the life saving work at the local donut store.
