Dostoevsky's work is full of religious overtones. Christ-like figures and Orthodox symbolism permeate works like Crime & Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov. Despite his constant doubt, Dostoevsky's Christian faith always remained at forefront of his work...
“The greatest obstacle man can overcome is the obstacle of the self.” Today we discuss Dostoevsky's faith, Kierkegaard, and the Kenotic Christ. We also point out how Dostoevsky shows us the light by illuminating the darkness - for, as he said, "truth shines more clearly in affliction." Hope you enjoy the conversation!

“As for myself, I confess that I am a child of my age, a child of unbelief and doubt up to this very moment and (I am certain of it) to the grave. What terrible moments this thirst to believe has cost me and continues to cost me, burning more strongly in my soul the more contrary arguments there are! Nevertheless, God sometimes sends me moments of complete tranquility. In such moments I love and find that I am loved by others, and in such moments I have nurtured myself a symbol of truth, in which everything is clear and holy for me. The symbol is very simple: it is the belief that there is nothing finer, profounder, more attractive, more reasonable, more courageous and more perfect than Christ. Even if someone were to prove to me that the truth lay outside Christ, I should prefer to remain with Christ than with the truth.” -Fyodor Dostoevsky in a letter to Natalia Fonvizina, a friend who gave him a copy of the New Testament. We're almost done with this series! Hope you've found it insightful so far. Wow, I also spent most of my life thinking in terms of Heaven and hell, rather than the suffering of Christ for my sins. A totally new perspective. Thank you!

Thank you! What a wisdom for such a young man! I love Dostoevsky, can not read him enough. There is always more to learn from him. He was the one keeping me close to believing, something nor the church nor other Christians nor the Bible could...

This was explained beautifully. This reminds of John Lenox’s lecture on Christ and suffering. :)
