@@hollywoodactress That's one criticism I have of the Jets, the can vary quite a bit in weight, I've had the same models with almost 2lbs in difference. I prefer em lighter, some prefer heavier, so it's good you can get both, but it's luck of the draw really
Good stuff as always! The jet elite js-45 looks stunning. Imagine having this with a set of white EMGs SA-85 = Pensa M. Knopfler on the cheap! Also, JET has to make a Steve Cassidy signature model, come on Jet what are you waiting for?!
@@Bottomdweller Great extra info mate! Cheers for that 😀👍 I bought a JS400 from JG windows too, one of the first LPB's in the UK I believe, but had to return it as it had lacquer crack in the neck pocket and dings on the headstock 😬 Got a great one in the end tho 👍 In good company with Knopfler now 😜
I'm already seeing it here in my home town. I teach Guitar in school, 4 of the new starts got Jets for Christmas just passed. Usually that would have been 4 Squiers or maybe a Pacifica in there or something. Admittedly I'm living in a Jet Bubble tho - and did recommend a Jet to at least one of them 🤣
Nice one mate - great idea! 😀 and thank ya! 🙏 I've got a noiseless set of Kinmans I've been planning on putting in my JS300 for months now - One day 🙈🤞
Nice one mate! That's thier best model imo price/quality/specs ratio is perfect 😀👍 Top tip - change the strings and polish the frets as soon as you get it 👍
I have a JS-400 and I'm quite happy with it. Bought after watching countless YT Videos's of people praising it as being the best budget quitar. I'm not the best guitar player, but I can see if something is well built by touching it and looking at it.
I attended the guitar show and found Jet's performance impressive, plus they offered a generous 20% discount on guitars. Chapman also stood out. Rob deserves a 10 out of 10 for his engaging personality and approach with people, offering valuable lessons. Fair Deal Music also provided discounts on merchandise. However, many exhibitors failed to engage with the public as expected. It wasn't quite like the UK NAMM show. Hosting the event in London, perhaps at a venue like the ExCeL, could enhance its appeal.
100% agree Re Chapman guitars and the ManChap himself - Such a sound and generous dude 😎👍 There were loads of great booths, I also enjoyed PMT's selection of used gear - a few cool items there. Of course I'm just having a bit of fun with the title here - no-one "won" the show 😜 Well.. except for me! It was my first guitar show and I loved it 😀👍 I've only ever seen NAMM vids on YT and just went with a bit of word play for fun 😜 I believe there is a Guitar show coming up in sept or oct in London - don't know much about it tho
Me too mate! I'd love a bit more with a trem and a roasted maple fretboard but it's still a classy looking machine. Shame that was literally the last one left in the world!
@@stevecassidyguitar ah yes! You love a roasted maple fretboard! That would be a nice touch. Last one in the world? Hopefully they'll make some more!!!
Cheers Graeme! 🙏😀. Luckily, you can get them most places these days - and can also pick up good deals on them used too (not that i'm looking at them on ebay everyday or anything 🙈)😁👍
Still not played one yet... and was too much of a wuss to be hanging round to haev a noodle at the brum show. But so help me i will ;) Great vid as always sir :)
That red Baretta clone looks awesome! From the video, the gloss one looks better. Can't really tell how good the relic job is on the matt one. Am a fan of relic-ed guitars, but only if they look convincing enuff...
I think I prefer the Matt finish (I usually prefer gloss). Personally I'm not a big fan of relics, but this one doesn't bother me too much for some reason. Not a fan of the headstock shape choice on the matte 850 tho. Never thought of it as a Baretta clone - thanks for pointing that out 😃👍
Enjoyed the video Steve. Jet are definitely on my radar, I’ve been contemplating buying a JS-400 for ‘heavy modding’ but have been hanging on and leaning towards buying one of the ‘forthcoming’ Harley Benton ST Modern Plus guitars once their finalised spec and prices become available. It appears that Thomann must have problems with the release of the ST Modern Plus models as they are still not on their website and today is the last business day of the first quarter of 2024, which they quoted as their release period.
Thank ya mate 😃🙏 I've also been waiting on the HB ST modern. I'm expecting the sanre specs as the prototypes and around £350 - £400. I'm keen to try one out. Pretty sure I won't like the flat radius compound neck, but fancy giving it a go. Didn't realise today was the last day of Q1 - thanks for pointing that out. It's not like HB/ Thomann to not deliver, so you're right... There must be some problems 🤔
@@stevecassidyguitar Thanks Steve, I e-mailed Thomann’s guitar dept this morning asking if they can tell me the release date for the HB ST Modern Plus models. I’ll let you know if they come back to me with a date, here’s hoping they get back to me with a release date that’s not going to be too long! We’ve got the north east of England guitar show happening down here next Sunday and there is always lots of used and new guitars for sale there so if the ST modern’s aren’t forthcoming I might be tempted to buy an HSS Strat / ‘Strat type’ there if anything takes my fancy. The intention is to mod it with a mid-boost circuit and series/parallel switching in the vein of Dan Huff’s James Tyler modded 64 Strat. Keep up the great work on the channel, I’m really enjoying your content. Best regards, Steve
@@stevecassidyguitar Hi Steve, I checked my e-mail shortly after posting my previous reply and saw I’d had a reply from Thomann who informed me that “the release of the ST Modern Plus guitars has been delayed and Thomann won’t be taking the first delivery of these models until the end of June 2024”. That’s not a good look for Thomann / Harley Benton, that’s a big delay in their line of business, sounds like some major production/supply issues me thinks.🙁 Looks like a Jet JS-400 or other ‘S-type’ is a more likely buy for me now! Have a great Easter weekend.👍
@@steviesynapse Thank you for the kind words sir 😀🙏 and yeah an update from Thomann if you get one would be greatly appreciated 🙏 Good luck at the show mate! 🤑 Project sounds cool too. I've got the vertex effects Dan Huff interview in my watch list for later 👍👍
@@stevecassidyguitarHi Steve, in case you missed this info edited within minutes into my previous reply, Thomann advised me that “the release of the HB ST Modern Plus models has been delayed until late June 2024”🙁 Such a big delay is disappointing after the ‘hype’ around the launch of these guitars at the European guitar summit 2023. Very unlike Thomann/ Harley Benton, sounds like they’ve encountered some significant production/supply issues.
I've got 3 so far JS-300 I changed the PUPs to Fender Texas Specials, JT-350 which is superb as it is I'm not moding it. And a JS-400 which I have a new set of Iron Gear pups and a new wiring kit plus new pick guard and replacement knobs/switches (proper split knob). I just need to find my soldering kit and electric drill (the new pick guard is not going to fit ho-hum never mind).
100% agreed I'd buy the crap out of that offset with a trem. I played my first Jets finally the other day and they're fantastic. I played a HH model with a trem in particular - the matte black one. The neck was great, similar feeling to the sires and the Humbuckers blew my mind. I've never heard such jangly humbuckers outside of Filtertrons. It was like someone took the best bit of Jazzmaster and PAF pickups and smushed them together. I wish it came in other colours since the matte black smudges so easily. I'd nearly consider getting it and refinishing it, but offsets are definitely my vibe.
I've always felt like you deserve one mate 👹 A happy Easter gift to you from you? 😜 I have a Sunburst JS400 too - have kept it stock so far. The Stock single coils have grown on me 👍
Nice one mate 👍 100% agreed. I recently did a shootout of a £169 Jet Strat Vs a Fender player: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GVidRT0SaLg.html I'm not suggesting you watch it, but have a wee read through the comments - It's mindblowing! So many people making comparisons to Fender USA guitars- even some custom shops! 🤯
Yeah It's weird they only do Rosewood on the pink JS400. Maybe not the best colour to test the waters with rosewood. I have to admit tho - I do much prefer the maple
@@stevecassidyguitar I got the maple as it was the only option and honestly I love it far more than I thought I would, but there’s a part of me still thinking my life isn’t complete without a rosewood board s type. First world problems are a fine thing
I have 4 Jets... 1 - JS300 and 3 - JS400 -- They are the best budget guitars I have ever bought and they sit very nicely among the other more expensive guitars I have. If you havent tried these guitars then you are missing out on what I can only say is the most affordable value for money range that actually delivers the real deal in its price range. Not like some of the other crap out there that fall short on quality and playability big time. Just my opinion !!
My moderately-modded Jet JS-400 has been unputdownable in the month since I bought it. Thought nothing would ever beat my Les Paul but this guitar which is strapped over my shoulder as I type never leaves me by far. Couldn't recommend them highly enough.
Hi Steve between watching your channel and Dave Simpson’s and seeing how cool and fun the Jet guitar’s look and what they have to offer and how good they sound you guys have pushed me over the Jet edge.. I want one so bad right now.. I have started saving up for one.. I want a gold JS-300.. There is a small but well known guitar store about 35 min away from me that has started carrying Jet guitars and there is a music store in LA called Kairon that you can order directly from.. Thank you for your Jet review videos.. Take care Craig
Nice one mate 😃👍 I've heard there's another store in the US... I think they're called "B's music" have also started carrying Jets. I think you're gonna see them everywhere soon,so needing time to save might not be a bad thing 😃👍 I believe the Gold JS300 is one of the limited edition ones, so might be hard to find. Best of luck to ya tho mate 😃👍
Thanks Steve yeah I am taking the time to save up for my Jet especially since I can’t play guitar right now since I am only 12 days after my shoulder surgery😂. I say I want a JS-300 but I also like the coral red JS-400 and it has a Humbucker which would be cool and I like the red to show tribute to one of my favorite guitarist Mark Knopfler. Which do you prefer, the SSS or the HSS? Thanks Craig
@@Craig_KCfan I massively prefer the JS400 mate. For not a lot more you get a "better" (surprisingly stable) 2 point trem, and beautifully contoured and comfortable heel joint.
I will take that into consideration, how is the Humbucker? Does it sound muddy? I wish the Humbucker color would be the same color as the single coils (white).. I know that seems vain I guess and I’m sure I will get use to it especially since the Jet guitars are killer. Thanks for your advice.. Craig
@@Craig_KCfan Yeah Kinda muddy. not enough clarity for my taste. I prefer a chrome or nickel covered HB on HSS, but yeah I agree the black bobbins look nasty
Nah, you don’t like Jet . . . . 😂😂😂 I’m SO glad you connected with Lee and that he’s seen some of your vids. I was going to ask if we might see some Jets in the US, so I’m really glad to hear that will happen. If Lee wants to test out impressions from the US female customers . . . I’m right over here and ready to help! 26+ years of beta testing experience and willing to sign an NDA! 👋🏻😬👍🏻 . . . 🥶🥶🥶?!?!
Ha! 😆👍 Thank ya Marsha 🙏 So "rumour" has it... There's a warehouse somewhere in the US full of Jets... But the distribution isn't in place yet. Hopefully soon 😃🤞 I'm hopeful Lee or someone from Jet will read your comments - so they might give ya a shout - your CV is looking good 😃👍
@@stevecassidyguitar I look at far too many “next” guitars 😂, I really fancy a semi hollow , or another les Paul type , or one of many other types ,, 😱 , I’ve thought too much now, I need a lie down 😂😂
Jet guitars, great, regardless of the price point, is how I would sum things up. Well, apart from the tuners that came on my JS400 if I'm being totally straight.
💯 mate! That's my thoughts exactly. Guitars are great at any price and the tuners aren't the best. Also some Ive seen recently had a wee issue with the saddles too. But like the tuners - it's cheap and easy to upgrade - if ya want 👍
I have a JET JS 400 (210€, last summer). I intend to buy another one, but ... In the last two weeks, JET raised the prices by 20-30 euros per guitar (series 300 and 400), and besides, they are not available in stores. The expected arrival time of the new stock was the beginning of March, so they postponed it to the end of March, now they just marked it as unavailable.
Bah! Seems no-one is safe from the price increases these days. I think when I first discovered the Jets, late 2021, the JS300 was £159 and the JS400 was £169 (well worth the extra £10 for the JS400 imo) but yeah I think they're now up to... Edit: Actually just checked now... You can still get the JS 300 from £159 up to £189 depending on retailer. The JS 400's are still £169 but up to £199 depending on retailer and finish 🤔 Bax music currently have a JS400 sunburst in stock
@@stevecassidyguitar My JET JS-400 is LPB (like yours), other colors are cheaper. It's not the price increase that bothers me as much as the unavailability. Although I think, if they keep increasing the prices, they will lose their advantage over the competition, because if they reach 250-300 €, there are already Harley Benton and Cort, as well as some others. It's a pity that I can't buy it because I've already prepared an upgrade.
@@Sun9C Ah - So it's another LPB one you're after! 👍 I had a couple of the very first ones, but they had lacquer cracks in the neck pockets, so got returned. It was at least a couple of months I had to wait before I got the one I have now. iirc the LPB's might have been in more limited numbers. 🤔
Hiya pal! 👋😀 Yeah agree Re the headstock choice on the 850 - not my favourite either, I prefer the Matt finish on the 850, not usually keen on relics but this one doesn't bother me too much for some reason🤔
I was in my local Guitar Shop today (Kenny's music - A small franchise 3 or 4 shops in scotland) They had in loads! JS850, the Single cut JL500 The quilted HH Tele (can't remember model name) and The usual JS 300/400 JT 300/350. Almost as much as at the show 😀 I could have stayed home 😜
again the overwhelming majority of videos about Birmingham Guitar show this year are all shaky camera work and overwhelming background noise. The way you mic'ed this up makes it one of the standouts. I've still yet to hold a Jet in my hands and I don't know if they make 27" Baritones (which is where I live)
Thank ya kindly mate for noticing the details - much appreciated 😀🙏 I was very lucky to have my GF Yoshi on camera duties for this one 😎👌 I just got these mics the day before the show and hadn't tested them, but they worked out well, and my editing software has a magic button that can remove all background noise! 🤯 I don't think they do have a baritone yet, But that's a great suggestion! I'd love a Jet baritone too - great shout! 😎👍
Oh! It could very well be! I have to admit I just had to google him 😬 Wasn't aware of him - but yeah it looks like it could be the feller! 😀👍 Well spotted sir! 🤓
funny how the JS 850 FR is the same as a JS 700 CPR, the CPR just has rosewood, 850 caramelized maple, everything else appears the same cept color right? or maybe the red one is "relice'd" ? generally you don't see companies do that just for a fingerboard or relicing, they'd just go like JS 850 FR M, the JS 850 FR-R ..obvious they're not just another company! what's bitchin and what you're not getting from MOST companies is the rosewood fingerboard is still a roasted roasted maple neck! FUGG YES! roasted maple neck + rosewood or ebony FB fuggen rooles!!! . .. the palm feel and comfort of roasted maple with the fingertip feel of rosewood.. drool . . . only thing that can make these gits better is that they're ALL top mount Floyds! and 24-26 fret! angle that FB end . . . difference with a top mount, for me anyways, prefer top mount so what I do with bolts on's is get a shim from stumack then lift that FR off the deck like a top mount, then lift the pups, you may need longer pup screws but I have all that covered.. luthier . .
Well spotted mate. The JS800 is listed as having an Alder body Vs the 700's Basswood. Wouldn't make any difference to me personally but I'm not a big fan of the headstock shape on the 850
Not that I know of 🤷♂️😬 Is he in the vid? There were a lot of passers by I kinda recognised but wasn't sure. Only spotted Jack Gardiner and the Pedal Pawn guy in the background when I was editing 🙈
@@stevecassidyguitarwell it could have gone a lot worse if it was me! When i am nervous i always seem to get a temporary Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome and end up with people wanna beat me up! So with that in mind this went perfect!
11:58 Its ok but, are you a fairy? Don't get me wrong, I've a picture of me doing that exact same thing to my 24 year old son. I'm a bit of a joker as ya see😅😅.
Nice one Ranman! 😀👍 Although I have to admit, I leaped on the Roasted maple bandwagon a couple of years ago now, and I can say... maybe they're more stable? Maybe not 🤷♂️ But' I've still had some fret sprout on all my roasted necks, Fender, Squier, Harley Benton, Jet, Fazley - the lot. But... These days I mainly like em for the look and feel anyway🤩👍 I think you've gave me an idea for a vid here too - cheers😁👍
@@stevecassidyguitar, heck, any time. Fret sprouts pretty normal these days, 😆 I can't wait for the idea to develop and be reality. Would be nice to have a competition here in the state's.
I bought a pair of JETs because of the roasted necks. The necks play amazingly. I've had them 2+ years now. One of them has suffered fret sprout but it's in a cupboard with (lagged) central heating pipes and the humidity is in 30s🙈. A few days in the living room and the sprout was lessened. Come summer it will be gone. I havent had to readjust the relief on either neck. So I guess even roasted necks are not fully dried out.
@@stevecassidyguitar, another note, I do extensive work on the fretboard and frets once I get a guitar. I would round all the frets to be slightly hemispheric, then I'd roll the fretboard. Actually, roll the fretboard first. Then do the rounding cause you are basically cutting some of the fretboard back to meet the now rounded fret end. If one doesn't do this, fret sprouts will always have the opportunity to show up. One has to change their playing style just a little because you did lose some real-estate but the result is a played in feel that only the professional can do. It takes many hours to do this for me. A painted fretboard would not be a candidate or would have to be refinished. This works best with rosewood.
