Well spotted mate 🤓👍 Soz - It's a bit of a running joke on the channel, where I pretend there are ludicrous celebrity signature model guitars (Usually people who don't even play guitar), then I purposely use the wrong names/pics... for fun 🙈 I know it's really stupid, but it kinda makes the "Specs" portion of the vid a bit more fun - for me! 😂🙈 Apologies again - Here's another example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ihd-k_8NLX0.html I got a lot of comments telling me that's not JCVD! 😂 Now you're in on the joke 😜👍 Admitedly a really terrible joke - but there we go 😁
I have a Jet JT-300, overall not a bad guitar, it's a Rosewood neck which is my thing, it does have a horrible string buzz somewhere that I just can't get rid of, although that's not enough to sell it, especially as I'd get peanuts for it. Plus it was a present from my wife, so I wouldn't anyway lol. The neck is the best bit about it. Jet didn't really want to know about the issue, they did say send it back, but it was bought from Bax music who just distribute them, they don't repair/replace them, so it would've had to go back to Holland, and for a £159 guitar it wasn't worth it. Will I spend £500 on another Jet, maybe, bit not yet, got my eye on a Player 2 Tele.
@@MrMatrix2808 Nice one mate 👍 I've had the JT300 too. Incredible for the price, but mine didn't have any issues 😬 I'd have a tech look at your neck, might just be a case of a wee hammer tap of a couple of high frets and not too expensive. Worth a go I'd say 😃👍. I just unboxed the player 2 strat the other day. Night manage to get a hold of the Tele in future 🤞
What I get from this is,,,,,,,it’s ok. But it about twice the price of a Jet, which you seem to love, and, as my mate says, “I just love playing it. Canna stop picking it up!” I’m not keen on the colours of these. Bland.
It's more than 3x the price of a Jet JS400. But yeah I can't get too excited about a guitar with a Rosewwod fretboard and I don't love this colour either. Maple fretboard and HSS, is more my cuppa tea, But I just took the only strat they had available 😜👍
@@stevecassidyguitar just think everyone else raised their games, locking tuners, roasted maple necks, belly carves on teles’, ergonomic heel joints, and Fender stick with the same old same old. For 3 times the price. Suppose, resale will be the thing.
Great shout mate! 😀👍 It makes all the sense in the world to make that vid, as my Jet VS PLayer 1 vid has been the best performer on the channel. But I'd need a stock Jet JS 300 to compare SSS to SSS, or an HSS Fender player 2 to compare to a JS400
Tech tip: you can make an easy "frying pan" handle to hold the bolt-on style guitar body as you do the finishing work. Basically a piece of wood that fits where the neck is. You can also add an eye bolt on the far end of the handle, so you can hang it to dry. Also, always start with the hard to reach areas first (inside the cutaways). Those are the areas you can't avoid and area easier to reach if you don't apply finish to the top and/or back first.
Thanks for the expert tips mate! 😀👍 I did consider making a neck handle for it, But I still couldn't find an appropriate place to hang it at home 🙈 Great shout about the cutaways and other tricky parts 1st - noted for future - Thank you! 🙏
By the way the player strat pickups are the same as the original players strat! I use the tone control on my strat neck pickup when playing through my Marshall on the crunch or clean channel however with gain it's all the way up😅
@@stevecassidyguitar I have the players strat with pau ferro and when I turn down the tone for the neck pickup it's instantly Hendrix through my Marshall
@stevecassidyguitar I didn't take it as a judgement😁. I liked your sense of Scottish humour and liked your review. I also like the player pickups. I play pretty much everything with those sss pickup configuration from Hendrix, ac dc to black Sabbath. Hello from Australia
Steve can we have a episode on the fender style tremolo bridge....they all should work ,either light or heavy blocks its physics .But not explained when a beginner buys a strat style ,stock strings are shite, agreed.if after new strings that are strectched if its sharp nuts binding, flat more tension on trem claw, and dont forget a 4mm ball bearing and a trem arm tension spring then youre trem bar( yes there are real)it wont feel slack alice x when you used to buy a fender there was a silver foil sticker ,holding in a 4mm ball bearing and spring .aye be true as irn-bru .
I knew about the spring - But not the ball bearing, but that does make loads of sense to have one in there 😎👍 Not an ideal design tho 😬 Easy to lose etc. The Fender trem/vibrato is far from my favourite - I lioke the Gotoh 510 for a 2 point, but yeah, that's probably less than half the battle, it's all about the nut and string tree imo
@@stevecassidyguitar totally less friction the better, but i bet 90%of strat people do not use the trem ,because we dont let strings stretch and got confused when using a trem as a nipper....
@@moontheloon1969 I think I might be an exceptional case having most of my trem experiments with a Floyd Rose (Ibanez TRS ii) trem, when I were a nipper - So a 2 point trem isn't a huge headache for me. But I can totally see how it would be for other new players👍. But I don't subscribe to the common advice that beginners should either get hard tails or block off the trem. Trems are fun, and should be experimented with 🤓
@@stevecassidyguitar last trem question my luxury sunday guitar is a lefty ibanez as153ays, i would love too fit a trem , les trem(duesenberg) or spend bucks a bigsby, with shaller roller tree?
I think some of the models are available now and others are out in October. I'd image US would be the same? but not sure. They have this strat a tele and a jag in my local retailer (Kennys music in Dundee Scotland) available to purchase now.
Guitar World and MusicRadar reviewed a Strat and a Tele. They each had issues with the nut on one of the guitars. One of them had issues with the Tele, the other with the Strat. I don't get it. How hard can it be to cut the nut right? I mean, a lot of other manufacturers do it better.
@@stevecassidyguitar Seems to be happening too much for it to be just a fluke. QC on the nut seems to be... Not great. Hopefully there aren't any bigger or other issues.
@@nedim_guitar The angle I was gonna go with on the Full proper review was, "Have Fender Improved QC?" Going by this example I have, I'd say yes. But from what i'm hearing elswhere... maybe not 😂🙈
@@stevecassidyguitar Maybe they've improved, but are not all the way there. So many guitars they're producing, it can't be 100%. But still... They can do better.
One of the great things about having more than one guitar is that it can refresh love of your guitar stock. So my vote is: do as many reviews as you can Steve. They all go into the mix
@@Alan-zf2tt Funny you shold mention, Kenny's had 2 Duesnebergs in on consignment the other day. I think that's the first time I've seen one (or 2) in the flesh (or wood)!
@@stevecassidyguitar Folks don't buy/read music journals/magazines like in days of yore. And kit distributors kinda suffer. The internet is a great substitute for kit distributors. I tended to stick to SSS guitars. I don't really know why - but S-type neck pick-ups and soul music are so damn cool. On the few occasions when I had an HH S-type man I loved both types equally as much. Looking forward to Duesy's reviews ...
@@Alan-zf2tt I don't know If i'll mabnage to get the Duesenbergs 😬 Also kinda swamped with Guitars atm - I've got more than I can handle 😅👍 Certainly not complaining tho
I just cant figure out why Fender hasn't got rid of the butterfly string tree and just use them on their vintage reissues, there are much better designs out there, of course Fender would design their own modern string tree, Get On With It Fender! I also like the 9.5" radius, I also like the 7.25" radius too, it makes for even easier chords and you can get wild bends on the G string without fretting out. In the '80s flatter fretboards were all the fashion, I just couldn't get on with them though, the largest radius guitar fretboard I now have is a 12", they took some getting used to for me but they have their advantages and disadvantages, like any radius I guess.
I know mate, it's probably one of the cheapest parts to change too. It would probably only cost them pennies to change it. The tree they used on the old USA Standards would be a massive improvement, people (like You & I 😂) would stop complaining, and that ones not even the best tree either, but way better than the butterfly without a riser 👎
Hello from Bolt Guitars! We love the video Steve and well done on getting a superb finish. Can’t help but feel like there’s a challenge in it. Can we make a magenta? Let’s find out.
Hullo mate! 👋😀 Thank you again for providing the paints! If you can make a Magenta - please let me know! 😂🙏 An Artist commented earlier that we might need a deeper blue and 10 parts red to 1 part red - I think 🤷♂️. Would love to see more some more really offensive, striking, flambouyant 80's colours 😜👍 Thanks again mate! 🙏
No sweat. We use tiny apparatus as part of our development and have been experimenting and can tell you that the red goes a long way! For pure magenta you’ll always struggle, but you can get a shocking eighties electric pink with the red blue and white. It’s close, but there’s nowhere near the amount of blue you used and more white that you’d expect. I’ll be in touch with an update.
@@robclarke2330 Nice! I was too scared to use the white incase I ended up back to the original colour of the guitar 😂🙈. Soz I ment to say 10 parts Red to 1 part Blue in the previous comment too 🙈
It will sound better in the proper review - I promise 😀👍 Kenny's (My local retailer I borrwed the guitar from) didn't have the Jazzmaster in stock. I'd be really keen to check one out though 😀👍
@@stevecassidyguitar I’ll look forward to the full review! Yeah me too, my local shop only has the new strats & teles, so looking forward to trying the Jazzmaster 😀
Are you going to keep the fender and sell your rubbish cheaper guitars , you spend so much money upgrading them , your a gigging musician so you should just have 2 of those Fender Players . Buy a high end amp , I got a few expensive amps , I will send you a 50w Tone King amp to play . I really like your channel , your honest , your fashion style is odd , do your glasses have lenses in them or you just wear the frames ?? Your channel is amazing and your a cool dude, thank you God your not English .
😂👌 Thank ya kindly mate 🙏. I have a 2004 USA Fender standard strat, (that I've upgraded a bit) I've barely touched it in almost 2 years, It's not as good as my upgraded Jet imo 🤷♂️. I used to gig an all valve Laney TT100 2x12 combo, sounded fantasic but weighed a ton. I'm more than happy gigging with the HX stomp XL these days as my entire rig. Not only is it lighter, but playing in a 6 piece band in small venues it makes more sense to be ampless. The wedding we played last night, we had to have the drummer on the floor at the front as there wasn't enough space for him and his kit on the "stage" 🙈 No way I could have fit an amp on there too. Yeah - No lenses in the glasses, it's a looong story - I promise it's not as stupid as you'd think, but this response is already too long, you're probably not even reading this bit 😂👍
My favourite guitar in my favourite colour. Gimme it! On a more serious note, are you planning to do any upgrades to it? I've been wanting to install a Vega-Trem on my Player Series Strat.
Nice mate 😁👍 I'm not a big fan of red guitars, but this one is quite a nice shade 😎👍 I can't mod this one though - it's not mine, I just have it on loan from a store. But I've heard great things about the Vega trems, I'd love to try one out but they're a bit pricey for me atm 😬 Maybe they're worth it though 🤷♂️
Very Cool, Thankyou Steve. Nice looking Guitar and awesome playing as always. Not really tempted, although something about the "Hialeah Yellow" and "Birch Green" interests me ..... Alot. All the Best. Cheers
Thank you sir! 😀🙏 Yeah mate, it's good to see some cool new colours, but none of them really stand out a must have for me. I do like the Aquatone Blue, but It's abit too close to the LPB Jet I already have
It befuddles me that fender doesn’t package their instruments better and that they don’t come with cases or even bags. I also wish they would start adopting their modern features to affordable guitars. Every other brand is making the same thing with better prices. Even within their own house (I.e., Jackson, not that I’m a fan boy of Jackson, but they have great guitars at all levels). I love the new ultra’s but they’re so expensive. What makes them so awesome could totally be adopted all the way down. Ibanez and Cort have most the same or similar features on sub $400 guitars. As far as pua Farrell or rose wood who cares! Also anyone can roll their own fretboards and round their fret ends, all parts of an initial set up. But then again I saw a guy return a new guitar the other day while in guitar center because string action was higher on one string vs another. The guys behind the counter were like “Oh, no problem. I can throw it on the bench and fix that for you if you’d like?” and he was like “ah no Id feel better with a new one without these problems,” and they where like “Cool, no problem” 🤯🤯🤯.
Wow! Even I can adjust string height! 😂 But I wouldn't be too keen to roll the fretboard edges on a Maple fretboard without making a mess 😂🙈 I think the difference with Fender compared to Jackson/Cort is they use the Squier sub-brand for the lower tier stuff, I think the Contemporary and Paranormal series are probably the most interesting stuff that "Fender" puts out. Often with more modern appointments too. But Yeah, I'm all for going for something like a Jet or Harley Benton and giving it some big upgrades 😁👍
Sounds pretty damn good but come on Fender. Still no sculpted heel/neck joint. Aren't there enough models in the range for vintage ish specs? Waiting for a B stock HB ST modern to arrive. Took a chance on ordering one after watching the reveiw you did on that. Now these are released and now I'm thinking balls, should have waited!! Mind you, it is double the price of the HB.
Nice score on the ST modern mate! I hope you get a good one with the B Stock 😀🤞 If you prefer the sculpted heel joints, I think HB will be a better choice for you. and specwise... The HB absolutely smashes the Player 2. But I do prefer the neck profile and pickups on the St Modern 👍
@stevecassidyguitar fingers definitely crossed but never had an issue with B stock Bentons so far so hoping for the best. If its a keeper I may look at sticking some Tonerider pickups in if needed. They're fairly cheap but pretty good and would still be under the price of the Player 2.
Good idea sir 👍 Personally I'm not a big fan of the rosewood variants, (including rosewood and Pau Ferro) and I think comparing fretboard material/feel might be difficult to put into words, and a personal preference🤔 Leave that one with me mate 😀👍
@@stevecassidyguitar A few months ago, I tested a Player with a pau ferro fingerboard in the store. I have never seen such a hard and clumsy fingerboard from Fender. There was no pleasure in bending the strings and finger vibrato. And then they gave me Player Plus costing $500 more. And I felt like I was holding a Fender in my hand, finally. Interestingly, they also gave me the Classic Vibe, which is, as you know, much cheaper. And there is no comparison at all - the CV beat this Player also, and it was also lighter. So if this Player II is just as crap as the first series, then I give up.
Yup, nothing mind blowing here 😜 But... they're only a string tree and nut material away, from having the Player series be the exact same specs as the old USA Standard series. Even the pickups are "rumoured" to be the same (ask Phil McKNight 😜)
Apologies mate - This is a Scottish accent. I'm Scottish. We have a reputation as talking very fast, it doesn't help I was a bit excited over the unboxing too 🙈
Sound controls a name from the past! They took over from play it again sams in derby when i were a yoof :) if i remember right they had a decent one in notts too across from the ice arena... simpler times ;) For a strat that dont look half bad, if i wanted fender on the headstock mexican would certainly be my route as the usa stuff really doesnt offer much more for a ton of cash. Great vid as always sir :) Prefered gauge across everything is 9-46, best of both worlds ;)
I was surprised to learn a couple of months ago that Sound Control were UK wide, I thought it was just a small scottish operation. Glad they're well remembered elsewhere too 😀👍 Agree Re MIM. The player 2 is now almost identica specs to the old USA Standard now, the only differences i can think of are the string tree and nut and it's made in the factory "across the road" now 😜. I'll need to revisit 9-46 cheers 😀👍
When the heck will ANY guitar brand think to make a side opening on these boxes so we won’t all look like clumsy fools trying to get the guitar out of the box?! I mean, imagine what poor bass player must look like if we look pretty darn clumsy! 🤣🤣🤣 Hey guitar brands, novel design idea: SIDE BOX OPENINGS PLEASE! Thanks to Kenny’s for helping this clumsy unboxer out with the guitar!
@@stevecassidyguitarI blame novice noise maker for the initial gas and purchase! I got it about £200 cheaper than one of the player 2’s though so I think I got a great deal :D
