I remember Cena cut a promo once that said something along the lines of “I was here holding it down being a wrestler when it really wasn’t cool at all to be a wrestler” The man carried the company on his back for a decade and a half pretty much, in a time where wrestling was indeed “not cool” in the public zeitgeist. Was a company man, played his role, worked hard. Hard to hate that really.

He's the reason people stopped watching. Super Cena alienated all the hardcore fans from the 90s and so WWE replaced them with a PG show for kids. Those kids are now adults and the old fans left and never came back, that's the only reason he's remembered favorably. Well that and because he finally stopped being Super Cena and just started losing every match he did part time.

@@FernandoMartinez-pv1id and because he breaks a lot of 4th walls on his mic roasts, apparently people like that crap now, in attitude era with stone cold and the rock and triple h, it wouldn't fly that well, I remember a comment that mentioned if cm punk were to call stone cold a wife beater guy and a deadbeat dad, the crowd wouldn't gasp to the roast and 4th wall break, they would just boo him out of the building, and that answered my question as to why no one ever broke 4th walls in promo battles with stone cold, they do it with the rock though

Saying That John Cena Saved WWE 20 Years ago Is like saying George Lopez saved Nick at Nite regardless of the highest ratings and doing well Business wise the original programming was awful and relied on Full House, Friends, Mom, and Mike and Molly and unfortunately I don't think Nick at Nite will get numbers like that again people are cutting Cable faster than Movie Theatres and there's nothing on the level of George Lopez nowadays IMAO

No he wasn't, Batista and Edge saved WWE in the mid 2000s if anything. Ratings went up in 2005-06 because of them. Batista outdrew Cena the entire 2005 year while main eventing more. And did better with JBL than Cena did when it came to PPV Buy Rates and Ratings. While Cena was getting booed by SummerSlam 2005

Enough with the revisionist bs. Cena almost killed wrestling as the top babyface which is why they had to keep getting SCSA and the Rock back as nostalgia acts. Cena was a corporate creation, not an organic star

ummmmmmm…. No He didn’t? Come on with this revisionist history agenda bruh🤦🏿‍♂️ with Austin and Rock gone by the mid 2000s, WWE lost two of its biggest money makers and they also drove viewership too. Viewership went from 6 to 8 to now 3 million. Yes they had talent and they were crushing it with great content all throughout the 2000s but none of the wrestlers even Cena could compare to the chunks of global star power Austin and Rock had. Cena along with the WWE drove away most of the fans that got them to a billion dollar franchise in the first place. Casuals were already gone when the product became stale or attitude era was over. The only ones watching Cena as opposed to his fans were children. NO ONE LIKED CENA and what he represented when he was the guy of the company because IT SUCKED. At this point only hardcore marks were watching and the ones that did because there were no other wrestling company (until now with AEW) that was close to the WWE. WCW was dead, ECW was made into a joke by Vince and TNA had become what AEW is today. John Cena did not save professional wrestling and he sure as fck didn’t save WWE. In more appropriate context, He started the sinking ship to the bottom of the ocean because WWE may make tons of money but they are nowhere near of what they used to be in the mid-late 80s and late 90s. They are a niche brand and market when it comes to the mainstream now.

You're just a hater. Cena carried WWE after the Rock and Stone Cold retired. Without Cena, they would've lost viewership and went bankrupt.

The irony of calling this revision of history, yet that’s literally what you’re doing. The highest selling PPVs were headlined by cena 🤣🤦🏽‍♂️ tf are you talking about? They made more money alone off of cenas merch, definitely a cena hater.

@@kingflores8915yah but ask yourself why? And be honest I mean his merch was geared towards kids and wwe began to cater towards kids in that era and also way to much inconsistent booking and no shine given to other stars. I like cena but truth gotta be revealed
