"new black history" is the song of the year for me. the future sample, the minimalistic synth, the beatswitch with flumes productions... just so powerful

@@manhamnight oldheads like him call all modern rap mumble auto tune, because they think every rapper is Lil Pump 🤦♂️ there's so many different subgenres of rap and they all sound different.
@@prodsxmmit hate to break it to you, but I don't think oldheads would ever give JPEG a chance, and if one ever did they would 100 percent call it "noise" and say it's a disgrace to hip hop. Now I'm gonna assume that he meant the general mainstream of hip hop/rap and not whatever you said, and if that's what we're going off of, he's completely right. Rappers like Polo G, Gunna, Dababy, NLE, Blueface, Lil Durk, NBA Youngboy, Lil Baby, these rappers and more have a discography where you could switch most of their instrumentals around and the song would be completely unaffected in terms of structure, flow, or quality. There are some exceptions but not many, this is why you'll see that these rapper's best material is when they deviate from the pattern. For example Dababy: (Under The Sun, What's Poppin Remix) Blueface: (Better Days) Lil Baby (The Bigger Picture, and most of his feats like Pride Is The Devil or Hurricane) Youngboy (WUSYANAME, Bandit, Drug Addiction) I could keep going but I think my point is clear, the old sounds gets stale and people will seek out artists like JPEGMAFIA who you would have a much harder time making his songs sound the exact same when you switch the instrumentals. Most people who enjoy music will seek out artists with distinct sounds and not repetitive trends
@@TaxPact That's true, I meant more from Navie's POV he's playing the algorithm game by picking a snappy title lol, I agree with what you said for sure
If you look at song arrangements in the lense of "rock" music or "EDM" music, then doing abrupt switches becomes easier to pull off. Have it sound like a HipHop song obviously, but structure like its in another genre then it really helps as well
While it’s good to learn basic beat making rules to keep structure, know when it’s a good time to break it. I saw a clip of Chadwick Boseman’s James Brown movie where his band isn’t too sure if his song works musically. He simply states something like “if it sounds good and feels good, then it’s good.” Might be misquoting, but even back then people knew when to break the norm.
Yeah for real every single one of them just don’t understand how music works at all. I bet no gen z people had this video on their feed especially about Jpeg!
Step 1- buy a 404 Step 2- make album Step 3- say FOH 404 and break it on a livestream over Hank Peckers head or sumn idk u tell me. PS. Sample A.I for the culture🤣💀
JPEGMAFIA is so creative, he doesnt rely on a quantization and its off-putting at first but it hits so good. Randomly cutting off guitars as the beat drops or transitioning from a really hard, high energy beat to something mellow is what I think people find him so appealing especially his ability to sound cohesive and flow on these beats
Navie D -> Karim Benzema Step by step process 1. take away the d 2. take away the e 3. take away the n 4. take away the a 5. take away the v 6. take away the i 7. add a karim 8. add a benzema 9. keep his appearance the same finished
This is such an amazing breakdown video. I agree with you. Peggy is insane with his production as always, very inspiring for me cause it could be applied in art too. I love creatives that break the usual rules.
I don't know why but the beat you made at the end reminds me of 'Boards of Canada' Specifically their song roygbiv.... maybe its just the synths and acustic drums combo...
3:27 brother i have done this in 2013 and i only need like 5 second beat not these gradual long ass transitions. we producer, have been doing these switches before and way more often then these recognized producers and ours still smooth as butter too. unlike these raw jumps. hear OZ music and you will know what im talking about he did the beat switching short too
@@ob1jakeobi416 there fixed it for you. 3:27 is time stamp im reffering where navie D says jpeg mafia mastered the art of transitions or like its some innovation he did. but in all honesty i have done these beat switches long time ago and very simple and effective. not dissing just plain telling
Another amazing break down Navie with Great Visuals 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I especially loved the direct Vocal sample comparison between Kanye's DiaNd and dont rely on other men 🤯
Those of you who are exhuberant and excited about production, learn it from someone with a proven track record. If you're going to learn it from people on the internet, learn it from people who have charted somewhere consistently. Plugins, daws, samples, and knowledge are freer now than they have ever been. There are a lot of grifters preying on young people who are excited to learn but don't know where to turn.
That whole video is telling me only one thing. That rapper just use normal song structure instead of boring AF loops that needs a lot of time to be changed into other loops. And uses basic song making knowledge like having main theme recurring throughout the song.
@@JDXTHEKID people just using the word innovated as excuse like I do not care like these beat boring as shzt I rather listen to my dog taking a shzt then listen to this man I keeping it 100 and 1000 bands with u
Navie, I think one of the best transitions on beats are the ones in Estilo Libre by Residente. It changes the beat like every 30 seconds, without missing the flow and the rhythm of the song, I think it’s worth a video. Greetings!
Might be the best beat you've made as an example on one of these yet. I don't always agree with your takes, but I appreciate someone who can see inside Peggy's genius. Keep talkin yo shit Navie I'm subbed on 2 accounts now lol
peggy is the living example of "making music for yourself > pre-packaging what people would like", fans should always be the last thing you make music for
your skitzo examples lacks context. travis raps for the whole time during that "transition." Skitzo really has like four beats, and it took just four bars to travel from beat 1 to 2, and maybe 2 bars to travel from beat 2 to 3
I never really listened to JPEG Mafia but his tactics are fresh and the way you made that transition at the end of this video is very inspirational. I might try to do that too
