After Kendrick Lamar brought together all of hip hop's west coast including Dr. Dre, Tyler The Creator, YG, Roddy Rich, and many more at his Pop Out Concert, it's clear something is about to happen that has never happened before...
Snoop is okay. He wasn’t around at the Ken and Friends concert because he was in Canada performing at Edmonton Rogers Place. It was a sold out show for him. I don’t blame him for missing Kendrick concert, he must’ve been handsomely paid for the Canada show.
Kendrick didn’t save west coast rap he just reminded everyone how many great artists are from Cali. Hell he could have even more great artists there like Larry June, Vince Staples, and Madlib just to name a few.
Lets clear something up. It isn’t that Kendrick used the battle to unite the West Coast. It’s that the song Not Like Us invigorated the West and THEY championed it. Kendrick just used this moment as an opportunity to shine a light on the spirit of his people. And that is beautiful. Kendrick is a people’s champ.
I was born and raised in California, but I haven't lived there in many years. Here I am a middle aged dad streaming every artist that performed on the Pop Out. Jason Martin's Chupacabra is great btw. If a fraction of the audience that night is doing what I've been doing by checking out these artists that might not have been on their radar before, it's a win win for everyone. I'm actually listening to these guys and loving it. I'm sure these folks are seeing a boost in interest from all over the world.
Being from California myself and now living in ATL it really warmed heart to see Roddy, YG, Jay Worthy, G-Perico, Boogie and more on stage wit Kendrick. These guys all got to shine on a national stage and share their music. I’m looking forward to more music from all of em. No way Drake could pull off something like this with the same effect.
The pendulum is swinging back. A lot of music nowadays has been pumped out like crazy and none of the music that's out has any meaning or substance. Drake has overstayed his welcome and we gave him a lot of chances/graces but our patience has been running thin.
Drake is full proof of why you should be careful of what you asked for. He did all that trolling & begging Dot to reply ... he got that plus more, he got humbled again. He probably still hasn't learned his lesson yet
Kendrick just delivered a funeral service and the eulogy at the same time at the Ken and Friends concert. He's also reviving West Coast and standing with culture. Mad respect for Kendrick 🐐🔥❤️🤝
I'm glad you spoke on this, most youtube videos that went viral about the show were referencing drake when kendrick made it clear that he was uniting the coast as a nation on its own. . . Not about songs or back and forth in beefs rather to uplift a community, and that was dope. . .
Not being in the spotlight isn't falling off. From the early 70s, Cali always had its own form of HipHop and never cared about what's popping nationally...
I love the video. I’ve been looking for a lot of answerers on how to better my life and Kendrick’s beef had kinda been the spark to that here recently. Glad to see kendrick finding the love and respect he deserves even though I somehow slept on him up until the beef took off. Never opposed, just never new how insightful one person could be and how much it can influence another❤
I lived through the 90s, 2000s, 10s and now the 20s. Only one time ever have I saw such a connection in those times were the West Coast felt ONE. And this FEELS like this could be that again.
I’m not sure where this narrative of not dropping songs as much came from…. Yes DAMN came out in 2017 and Mr.Morale was released in 2022…. BUT in 2015 he drops TPAB and was heavily featured on Compton by Dr. Dre, 2016 he releases the untitled unmastered, 2017 DAMN and the Heart part 4, 2018 it was the Black Panther soundtrack, then In 2021 he is featured with Baby Keem, 2022 he drops the heart part 5 and Mr.Morale…. So maybe a 3 hiatus…. But it wasn’t like he wasn’t around… he had tours…
Don't get me wrong I'm happy to see the West Coast going through a renaissance, but us East Coast gang have been a little neglected :( ever since Pop Smoke passed away I want more and more for some good East Coast rap. Hopefully we'll see a similar thing
Love Kendrick. Been my goat for years. But the rest of Cali I just don't find all that talented lyrically. Maybe I just haven't heard the right guy yet
