Every company do this they have the right over the trademark name of any group or artist. Like if all Blackpink members leave and form their own agency and continue as a group they cannot use Blackpink name anymore if they don't have the copyrights. Same is for BTS, Exo, Stray kids or even solo artists like IU. So they are not filing to obtain rights they already have the rights. Now it's their choice if they want to sell it or grant it to him or not.

Other companies might be more shady, it's just that YG is not friends with the government. They don't want to be tied with politicians and give in to their "requests". You know what I mean. So they become the punching bag when the current administration has issues to cover up. G-Dragon is a K-pop legend. When I first got into K-pop, I didn't understand why so many other artists looked up to him so much. Then I started listening to the music and watching their videos and he is a true artist and performer. I definitely understand what all the fuss was about now. Say, "Han Seo Hee". GD is cooperating with an investigation based on RUMORS and has also stated clearly that he does not do drugs. Ten people are part of the investigation and Han Seo Hee is involved once again in blackmailing and drugs. She got 4 years probation last time while others went to prison. 4 years probation and 120 hours drug counseling for smuggling cannabis and LSD. Obviously she hasn't changed.

Labels owning stage names, concepts, masters, etc is common especially if the artist leaves. It’s a way for labels to protect their investments and capital, because if every artist left with 100% rights to things they created under label management labels would go bankrupt. It’s standard for them to file for ownership for everything gdragon and his lawyers didn’t lock down in contracts

Everyone looks like put everything on YG. This is BMW’s false. YG cannot help GD at this point because, in business, GD is no longer in YG, he has his own company now. YG and GD relationship is not that bad dude, they build that company together. They just try to not make problem bigger. They're incomes are still tied. It's convenient and safer for both parties to renew as quickly as possible than have some other third party snatch up the copyright when they're dilly dallying. Once all business of theirs ceases and GD wants to cleanly cut off from YG, because the branding of his business is literally tied to the stage name, he'll be able to get it.

@@swduc2836 YG has a separate contract with GD. He no longer under YG BUT YG still "managed" his brand deals. The copyright thing is something that has expired of 10 years in SK. Most of the time, companies will just renew automatically until the artists themselves want the right back to be given to them. The fact that GD did not try to appeal for his stage name, there.was no discussion about it, means that either GD doesn't care (which I higgly doubt) or GD still have a separatw contract with YG. YGE was just giving all Ikon tradwmarks, social media, and brand to the members. No drama, no legal battle, no court. Ikon wasn't as popular and impactful as GD. What makes you think YG will do GD dirty? Considering how legendary GD is

I wasn’t a g-dragon fan before but I am now. All his fans need to unite and speak out. I just read some of the latest news reports only to find out he is essentially being bullied by unscrupulous members of the press. He was brought in because a chick who is trying to get her own sentence lightened said she found suspicious wrapping paper in a bathroom he used. This is crazy!! Even though legally he could have refused the investigation because the court ruled insufficient evidence he wanted his name cleared so he asked to be investigated. Now the press, greedy for headlines, keep publishing inaccurate information that can’t stand up to simple investigation. I hope he sues these jerks and they have to pay more for their greed than they gained.
