There's also an option for Recording to Layers! Hit the settings gear in the transport at the bottom of the screen and click Record to Layers. This allows you to record each layer without having to create a new layer each time. If you record it will automatically make a new one
@skk6811

That's one of those options in S1 that nobody knows why isn't enabled by default.
@jamesmulligan1077

Thank you for that comment. I was just looking for a way to do that because the way it is presented here and is by default it is useless to me. I usually am behind a mountain of gear when recording and having to reach the computer to create new layers before each take doesn't make any sense.

Coming from Cubase, where it's called lanes. I just put it in loop and record three takes, without stopping. Then, I comp straight from the lanes. Does recording to layers allow you to do that?
@shout64
@shout64 Год назад
@@gillihansmobilewelding yep you can totally do that! You can set the loop and just hit record. Each pass will do its own layer

Joe, this comment is not about the video itself it is about you as a teacher. You are a natural. Your teaching style is fantastic. I am a Uni professor and have won every teaching award available but you, mate, you are better. I am a S1 professional user and every time I have a doubt, your videos have the answer and it is so enjoyable to watch them!!!! Keep up the good work.

Studio One is quickly becoming the ultimate recording solution. I've recently ditched my multi track recorders and gone completely computerised. It hasn't been easy, but Studio One is really proving itself to be the ultimate recording environment, along with my 16.0.2 Presonus Studio Live mixer.

Thank you, Joe! Great video (as always)! Just one remark to speed up the workflow even more: Whenever I want to preview (can you say prelisten?) parts of the layers, I just click into the waveform while holding the ALT key. Doing so, you don't have to switch between the layers and solo them one after another. Presonus rules - and so do your video tutorials!

Please move "layers follow selection" to preferences or give us the option to have it off as default. If you forget to turn it off and you edit something on the top layer, you will edit the rest of them without seeing it. But more crazy, if you make a template with "layers follw selection" off and you duplicate the track, S1 will turn it on again on the new track. That's plain crazy and not useful at all. I totally LOVE S1 and I use it every day, but I hope they will fix this in the next update.

Hi Joe, that was one of the best videos I watched produced by you. It was great, simple and straight to the point. Captivating and easy to follow. Liked the accent. Did you know that you don't have to add a new layer each time, that you can set Studi One to 'Takes to Layers,' by changing the 'Record Mode' on the 'Record Panel?' Of cause you do, you just forgot to mention it. But thanks, I never relealised that you could access each layer via the inspector. Thanks Joe, great job. I think a lot of us would miss out on a lot of the great features of Studio One if it wasn't for the likes of yourself and Gregor. Until the next time, have a good day.

So do you know how to create a track, add your specific instrument, record and edit out dead air? Like if I play separate tracks for the intro, chorus and verses and outtro, how do I edit out the dead air and put them together? I don't need to turn it into an LP. I just want a simple guitar track and nobody I talk to knows how to do it or won't say.

@@rustyfritz7743 I have zero idea what you're talking about when you say stem or arranger. I can add a track but it doesn't make it a track for my telecaster and when I hit record it doesn't show any metering of my sound.

Great video Joe, I'm new to Studio One, so it took me a while to find this. It's actually how it's been working in Logic Pro X for years. But Logic calls it takes and you don't have to "create' a new layer, you can just hit record and it records the layer (take) over the previous one and keeps both so you can comp afterwards.
