A can to the chest may be lethal due to "R on T phenomenon", when enough kinetic energy delivered to the heart that translates to electrical energy in the muscle at just the wrong time (the relative refractory period) can interrupt the normal electrical heart rhythm and send you instantly into cardiac arrest. This is why some little leagues require chest protectors for at least the infielders, should a hard enough line drive strike someone in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

I feel like a beanbag load for this would be a surprisingly effective less-lethal deterrent.

Getting hit directly on the chest by any of these at close range could actually be lethal. It’s a condition called Commotio Cordis, where a direct blunt force impact to the sternum has the potential of throwing the heart into a state of dysrhythmia. It doesn’t happen every time, but if the impact falls during the ascending phase of the T wave, as the myocardium moves from systol (contraction) to dystole (relaxation) the impact can cause the electrical signals in the heart to “short” and you can enter V-Fib. So basically if you get hit just after your heart beats you can be thrown into V-Fib (ventricular fibrillation) where instead of contracting properly, the heart muscle (myocardium) just quivers and spasms, leading to a stoppage of blood flow and eventually death.

At the risk of sounding like a Safety Sally here: I'd be careful about those spots on the torso. Ballistic gelatin is basically an agar gel, the stuff you'd use in a petri dish, which is why it grew those spots. It's not a big deal or anything, but some bacteria can get pretty nasty when you cultivate them like that. Just wash your hands after you touch that ballistics gel and try to restrain from eating it :)

This looks like one of those things where 5 times out of 10 you'll get a bruise, the other 4 you'll end up with stitches, and that one time you get unlucky and end up with a caved-in face or sliced arteries. Wholesome family fun!

That first hit using the monster energy just to the right of the sternum, could be potentially lethal if it caused the heart to go into an irregular rhythm, fibrillation, or arrhythmia.

Am I the only one who wants to get a can cannon and kit it out like a tactical AR? I know I could never afford it, but I feel like it would be hilarious to see one of those things with an ACOG and a laser/light module

Fun fact that not many of us thought before, not only it would hurt to be hit by one of those cans, it would also be dangerous considering they torn apart as soon the hit hard so you may need more than just ice to calm down the pain 😅

Honestly after seeing what the rubber ball did to the jaw I could see brain hemereging as well as a possible Braun bleed. That's absolutely insane. I love your channel. And if Huston takes a rubber ball to the glute. I would be amazed if he could still stand.

I think that headshot is definitely potentially lethal. I mean your gonna have a sub dermal hematoma and skull fractures. Without medical care I would expect it to be lethal in most cases. Internal bleeding from a chest shot could be even worse since it would be internal bleeding you may not even be hurt bad enough to be investigated.

Had one but returned it. I used their blanks and every single time the casing would get stuck and you would have to apply a large amount of force to remove it. Like slamming the butt stock onto the ground to eject the stuck casing. Glad to see yours worked so well.

I remember as a young teenager, my cousin and I discovered plastic pipe with an inside diameter very close to the outside diameter of soda cans at the time. We figured out how to take advantage of that fact. Back then, soda and beer cans were made of steel and lighter fluid still the favorite method of fire making.

I'm thinking the 'side of the carry handle' mounted M203 sights would work for a can cannon. May have to adjust the ranges a touch due to weight difference, but once you get that figured you could drop cans on target at decent distances.

kinetic energy: energy = 0.5x(mass)x(velocity)^2 So in most cases, going faster will do more damage than being more massive. That's probably why the mellow yellow hit harder.

My old boss caught a can of beer with his face once. He tried breaking up a party at his neighbors and someone threw an unopened beer at him. He had a perfect circle cut all the way around his eye. Fractured his orbital, more then 50 stiches, broke almost every blood vessel in his eye and was black and blue for almost a month. Even though he was a complete a-hole, I felt bad for the dude.

I was just thinking about your videos and how it’s been a while since I’ve seen one. I absolutely love the watermelon time and very much miss full auto Fridays. Watermelon time is so messy and absolutely amazing to watch, It brings me so much joy to watch you blow up all these melons. My favorite watermelon time that I can think of currently is the one where you use the Street sweeper 12 gauge shotgun and mag dump into a giant crate of water melons. Full auto Fridays will always be missed in my heart, damn RU-vid guidelines. I hope they don’t Monetize this message. Watching you empty out the large capacity AK mags is an absolute rush of joy. How can I forget the HCAR video too! I am also a fan of big bore guns so when it comes to 10 gauge 500 Smith & Wesson and full auto 30-06 I’m all for it. In a real world application, the mellowyellow would definitely have caused internal bleeding when it hit the abdomen. It would have definitely caused serious, most likely life threatening injuries when it hits the skull. Have you ever had someone throw a full can at you? It hurts, a lot. That's just arm strength, I couldn't imagine the pain from the can cannon.

I would be interested to see, what sort of improvised projectile would be most lethal out of a can cannon. Maybe test if freezing the cans prior will be more damaging. And maybe test out like some food cans and perhaps aerosol cans (like axe body spray). hell it would be entertaining to see what would happen if you used a can cannon to launch some airsoft or paintball Co2 grenades.

Being a gun-guy (sorta) when you put the rubber balls in it reminded me of muskets and flintlocks

The Can Cannon seems like something from Arsenal. Also at 4:49 just watching that Monster just perfectly slide in like that is so calming and satisfying.

The center chest impact does have some potential for lethality. 1) The sheer force of impact could be similar to the maneuver called the 'Precordial thump', used when sudden cardiac arrest occurs (has fallen out of practice over the years, but the theory is still sound) that it provides a 'shock' to the heart via percussive force. In a 'normal heart, this could create an arrhythmia or sudden cardiac arrest. 2) One of the risks in performing improper hand placement for CPR is puncturing the heart. This occurs if the hands are placed too far down on the sternum, causing the pointy tip of the sternum, the xyphoid process, to puncture the heart. This could occur if the can hits with enough force to compress the base of the sternum into the chest. Head shots would most likely give a concussion, severe potentially, but agreed not highly lethal. The potential is still there, but for the most part would require some sort of pre-existing condition of a weakness in a cerebral blood vessel that would rupture and create a brain bleed/stroke scenario. The jaw hit........... Definitely a fractured jaw, probably some cervical spine damage, potentially creating a para- or quadriplegic state from the rotational force applied to the head. Loving this content as it brings back training and knowledge that I haven't made use of in a while!! Thank you man!! And I'm very glad you stuck your thumb in it.
