Thanks, I recreated this circuit with a relay instead of a switch and a prox switch to drive the coils. Basically created a gate using rope on the shaft with limit switches nearly matching exactly what you have.

Excellent job, this gave me exactly the Information I needed. I've been looking for this info three days straight on RU-vid. I purchased some of these parts separate, but making them play well together was beyond me until now. My project consist of chicken coop automatic door opener. I am adding a thermostat (too cold wouldn't open), timer when to open and close, light sensor (dawn to dust), and the DPDT with limit switch (plus the diodes) which I now know I need to purchase. Awesome next video for urban chicken owners on how to wire their chicken coop automatic door opener that is self regulated all year round. 10 thumbs up - great job! Extremely thankful for your video.

Great video. I've been looking for some thing like this for a Christmas display I'm building. I know you said send your questions to your tech dept. but since this video was posted almost a year ago, they may not know what I'm talking about. My question is, how do I do some thing like this, but with a time delay in returning to the start position, and do it all automatically, once it has been triggered to start? I was looking at a time delay relay. I really want to stay away from electronics and keep it simple with switches and relays since it is an outdoor Christmas display. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Hi , great explanation thanks for that ! i just finished building an actuator for a project i'm working on using this video as a tutorial although i used a couple of different parts to you. Instead of using a DPDT switch i used a SPDT switch . Well really thats the only difference . there is just one thing that i'm curious about i noticed that when the limit switch is depressed (Regardless of which one is depressed) when i flip the 3 way switch to spin the motor the other direction for a split second you can hear that the motor is taking advantage of all the available power but then once the limit switch is released and both are making contact it's fine . This only happens for a split second until the limit switch is released and makes contact again completing the circuit . Do you think i have anything to be concerned about ? could it be that the Diodes i used are too small?

Partially that depends on how much current it needs to handle. Our diodes (part number 605126) can handle up to 5A and up to 40V. @wardharriman8965
@wardharriman8965 5 лет назад
Just a note. You don't really need diodes. You can put the limit switches between the DPDT momentary switch (direction) and the battery. The DPDT is then used to select the appropriate limit switch AND select the polarity of the battery. It's a bit more wire this approach eliminates the specification, purchasing, and wiring of the diodes all-together. Just to make it clear, this approach still uses the same DPDT momentary (for direction) switch.... just not the diodes..

Ι have done something like that but with 2 relays...with 1 sounds more simple and clever way to do that. But the problem with both is that the relay coil will stay energized when the terminal switch is open :(

Great Video.... I have a question having to do with this type of actuator. My application would be for automotive. I’m interested in installing a wing on the back of my car, but I want to modify the mounting brackets to accept electric actuators..... so far it’s straight forward. However, I would like to to be wired up with the brakes/brake lights. I want the actuators to open when the brakes are pressed and brake lights come on and the when the brakes are released for the actuators to close. Just like the brake lights.... is this possible?
@ServoCity

Yes, that is possible. You would need electronics to tie in with the brake signal as you mentioned. Please feel free to reach out to us should you have any further questions to tech@servocity.com.

Hi, I've got a question, is it possible to make a motor with lead screw as strong as linear actuator? I want to make a sit-stand desk, if I'll get a high thread-per-inch lead screw and a strong motor, can it hold on as much as a linear actuator? I think it may be cheaper for me than getting two linear actuator of proper size.
@ServoCity
@ServoCity 6 лет назад
Hi Filip, you'd basically be creating your own linear actuator by driving a lead-screw with a motor. With the proper selections you can build a mechanism that would have plenty of thrust. If you have any specific questions feel free to contact our Tech Team directly at tech@servocity.com.

Can you please help? Every tutorial I have seen, including yours, describes a circuit with just 2 diodes. I have 3 actuators, all faulty, and all 3 have circuits with 4 diodes, 3 orientated in one direction, with the 4th the opposite way around. The board has 16 nodes, 8 along the centre with 8 wires coming from it, and 4 above and 4 below this row of 8, to which the 4 diodes are soldered in place. Each of the limit switches has 3 wires connected to it, coming from the circuit board. The actuators operate from a 12v DC supply, so these circuits are NOT rectifiers, but instead seem to be a more unnecessarily complicated way of achieving the same purpose. They all seem to have issues with their circuits, but I am at my wits end trying to figure out how the current flows. Do you have any experience with these circuits, and if so, any chance of help please? Thank you, Alan.

is it possible to add pwm dc motor speed controller into the circuit because sometimes I could not find the motor with the right speed for my need in the market here....thanks so much you help me a lot
@ServoCity
@ServoCity 5 лет назад
A linear actuator is little more than a motor that's had the rotational motion converted over to linear motion. You can run a motor controller to adjust the speed based off the PWM signal being sent or you can run a motor controller with feedback and tie in the potentiometer so have position control. Step #1 of this ( www.instructables.com/id/Controlling-the-Actobotics-Dual-Motor-Controller/ ) instructable shows how to use the Actobotics Dual Motor Controller for speed control. Step #4 shows how to use the Actobotics Dual Motor Controller for position control. Please contact us at tech@servocity.com should you have any other questions and we'd be glad to assist.

Hello Nate. Feel free to use that design. It has been a while, but I believe (and I think I can see at 1:02) that it was a 612RPM motor (sku 638284). The lead screw is connected with a coupler.
