@@kden8743 Keep DCL, he benefits from Richarlison's efforts from the left and is the focal point. Bamford has still a good xG, but conversion is still low.

Smooth rotations is the other half. Klopp used all 4 vs City and knows he just need to run in this formation to become smoother and than hit the gas pedal! Rock and Roll baby, heavy metal football is about to get harder!
seeing a real face makes me feel like my Professor are giving me Lecture... University of Tifo Football with Professor Alex, Subject why Liverpool front 3 is a lowkey front 4
These Firmino jokes are getting stale now. He doesn’t score loads but he is immensely valuable to the team and is more successful than most other players in the league. If Liverpool can win trophies with a striker that barely scores then I guess that just makes them better lmao
@@believer0001 Best example of this is the match against Leicester from last week. What an amazing performance Firminho had, definitely his best in months
That's actually how savage Liverpool are. They keep playing with 10 players (when Bobbi's pretty much unseen), sometimes 9 when Adrian playing instead of Alisson,, all of these just to give the whole league some little hope that maybe there's actually competition in the title race when Liverpool lose. Hell even with this, they're still 2nd now with the same amount of points with Spurs playing a harder schedule.. So yeah, they're that good.
Alex, lad, that was the best analysis of our play/setup I have heard from a non LFC site. In fact, that was better than some of the supposed LFC sites who should know better. Thanks again.
@@GabrielRodriguez-mc4me To be honest didnt expect it at all. I grew up watching football becoming more and more pragmatic with the christmas tree as the pinnacle of that. Still remember the days in 98 when none of the team in world cup had more than one forward except for brazil.
It is 4-3-3 4-2-4 4-2-1-3 4-2-3-1 4-2-2-2 2-3-2-3 2-2-2-2 & 2 (rb & lb )moving up & down countinously... When u see Liverpool full match you will see many formations Klopp keeps rotating it during match depending on situation...
Aston villa exploited them,by attacking TAA who isn't good defensively as Klopp was trying to negate effects of grealish by playing 4-2-2-2 ,they attacked Trent which pushed van dijk near him & Watkins got free in van dijks space...
@@KaustubhMisraV_for_theJoker that’s what lfc fans say to defend Firmino when someone talks about scoring goals. But lfc fans continue to claim that he’s better than strikers who actually score
would help because defenders can push salah to his weaker right foot, which is easily exploited with a well trained defence. jota on the other hand can cut to either side and shoot. I think jota does track back a lot more, since he used to play for wolves who is a defensive team and that was part of his role, that's why he's played on the right so they can have a little more defensive solidity, especially with TAA/neco williams/milner pushing high up the pitch
@@chikennuget3634 Yes, I also think Salah was moved upfront mostly for defensive tactical reasons: Liverpool already played a 4-2-3-1 during games toward the end of last season where Ox played on the right instead of Jota, allowing Salah to stay upfront when Liverpool was defending.
This front four are very dangerous because all of them can switch positions, Salah even can swap position with Jota running toward the centre and Salah back to the right even Firmino can either go wide and make chaos with his Dribbling and skill in wing position, we all know how dangerous mane is in St position expecially when he has the chance to head the ball in the net
I have been a regular TIFO watcher (and listener) for quite a time now and I thought they couldn't surprise me anymore. Then I saw Alex with the Veracruz jersey and they again prove me wrong. P.D. Larga vida al Tibu
his composure on the ball and excellent passing range would almost fully negate the 2v3, as he would likely get past any sort of pressure from the midfield and get the ball to the fullbacks, or even directly to the front 3 looking to run in behind
@@chikennuget3634 he has zero defensive ability. Hendo + Tiago Combo would be better with 4 up top. Gini is good in a 3. Also Hendo and Tiago are much better at passing and creating chances Gini is more of a goal scorer from midfield so he can be dropped to the bench or play in place of Henderson but Tiago is first name on the team sheet and maybe Fabinho/Hendo alongside him.
We can't play this with our full backs going forward so often , since cotinho left , we have been using our full backs to fill the width so our attacking 3 go to depth
Interesting pick of your shirt, man! Explaining the new tactics of a team fresh from a record-breaking season for all the good reasons, while wearing the shirt of a defunct team whose last breath was record-breaking... for all the bad reasons... They managed to go nearly a full calendar year without a victory! We rallied for their win (against _any_ team, but our team) only because their last keeper (Sebastian Jurado) truly deserved it (They got it, don't worry). And, perhaps foreshadowing the weirdness coming next year, their last game ended in the weirdest way possible: the opposing keeper caught a corner, kicked the ball to the other side... and scored a goal!!
Hi Tifo, Love the videos and channel, would you make a video about Gerard Houllier, he is very under appreciated for what he did for French football as technical director, Liverpool, Lyon as manager and the Red Bull global football
Although this system seems to be working well, I strongly believe once everybody is back Thiago will not be left out of the starting team - Because he's their best midfielder in general. However, Thiago isn't as intense in pressing as the other midfielders - Even considering he can do it decently as proven in Munich - so it would accentuate the weaknesses of the system. So I think this will be used in some situations but the regular starting like will have Thiago in the middle instead of Firmino or Jota
Very nice. To nitpick slightly, Klopp has attempted to make 4231 work before, usually with Shaqiri as the 10. Not as a stop gap measure but in a deliberate way and after 433 had already proved effective. It was that effort a few years back to literally have 1 formation for teams that want to attack us and 4231 for those that don't. The idea was fine but we never really looked convincing doing it and i think it got binned about a month in. I'd thought of the recent system as being a spin on his desperation 424 that he goes to when we're losing a critical game, interesting to see it expressed as 4231. A few times this season he's been tinkering with a bit of a 4213 as well. The dying minutes vs Everton when Henderson had a goal disallowed and at least 1 of the Ajax/Midtjylland games I think. Seems like this season's slight tweak is to attack better down the middle. [endRamble].
I think one more thing about the 4-2-3-1 is the lessened workload for trent and robbo to provide creative attacking opportunities with their crosses/runs BUT, basing it off the Man City game, it also shows the fullbacks vulnerabilities when defending.
I think we're still playing a 4-3-3 tbh, just the mid is reversed. From one holding (1-2) to two deep (2-1) Bobby playing on the more advanced. We'll still play the same, but with and extra and genuine goal threat. I'd keep Salah on the right, and Jota up top. Bobby will drop back onto mids if the press gets beaten, along with one of either mane or Salah. To give us 2 banks of 4 with one of the 2 remaining picking up any deep opposition mids (4-4-1-1) without possession effectively.
To me, playing this formation with the same way the full backs push forward together will be the tipping point that unbalances the team and make them quite vulnerable at counter attacks. The high press will not always work, and without van Dijk their opponents can try long balls, and with one player less in their defensive midfield getting the second ball might become a problem.
The problem with the 4-2-4 which I spotted in the City V Liverpool game, is that when defending, you can't double up on a winger because it leaves space on the edge of the box for an attacking midfielder.
Jota has scored most goals for Liverpool through the centre. Some when he replaced Firmino and against Leicester he also popped up in the middle. Salah is most effective at RW as he only has a LB to deal with (sometimes the LCB/LDM) and can cut in and shoot or cross. I think with the introduction of Jota it could take the two man marking off Salah and allow him to start firing again. That’s why I think Jota should be ST and Salah RW
The only way to counter it is to revert to a 2-3-5 - Might as well overload your attackers against the Liverpool defence and play them at their own game :)
Looking forward to Pool vs Spurs. It would not be beyond Mourinho to devise a plan to by pass the press of the forward line. Hojberg -Ndombele are a potent combo as outlets to receive the ball under pressure and Kane-Son are as lethally effective with the chances they get.
yeah what happens a lot when a top side plays lower teams, they defend in the low block... so having the front 4 in the box and the wing backs delivering balls creates opportunities between the channels... and even though firminho and jota arent the biggest they can definitely win headers in between the defenders if the delivery is right...
I'd argue that this system is always perfect. The one real con never seems to apply to Liverpool. Whenever they play, they always seem to outnumber their opposition. It's most likely gegenpressing, but the way the defence, midfield and attack is still devastating.
There is another major weakness with a 4-2-3-1 for teams that usually have the majority of possession and that's building play from the back. When playing against a low/mid block having a double pivot robs you of an extra man going forwards. Play can become turgid because you do not have that extra man between the lines in attacking positions.
That can be countered with a player in the pivot with excellent passing range. Bayern play 4-2-3-1 and have no problem with their build up because Kimmich (and Thiago before him), could pick passes out from anywhere on the pitch. Sometimes 1 dynamo midfielder is better than having an extra 8 in midfield.
@@yonisgure7348 That still doesn't negate a team playing a low block. Losing that extra man higher up the pitch, between the lines, is a detriment to breaking them down. Additionally, it is also harder to play through a team with a 3 man midfield. It is then incumbent for the false 9 (usually Firmino) to drop into midfield to make up the numbers.
Jota and Mane both are really good at pressing and tracking back in comparison to salah, and when defending 4231 turns into 442 with mane and jota on wings, but for this formation to work with firmino in no 10 position, midfield needs to be really industrious, a player of thiago ilk won't be suitable in klopp's 4231
I guess Klopp being a very attack-minded coach, always wanted to morph the team into such formation or state. Maybe that is why he brought in Shaqiri, Diogo Jota being an improved version.
The video analysing defense is very much like Pep's first 4-2-2-2 City team except with a full back coming centrally rather than overlapping like Liverpools classic Wing Backs.
You keep mentioning this formation as a 4-2-3-1. However, wouldn’t this formation best be described as a 4-2-1-3? With the 1 being Firminho, as a hybrid AMF/SS, and the 3 being Jota, Salah, & Mane? Please explain.
One thing I noticed from the City game is that Liverpool would often defend as a 4-4-2 at times if the press was ineffective and City were on the ball for a while
I can't remember Liverpool playing this front 4 in any game except for vs City. Im not sure they'll use it much since it pretty much nullified both Salah and Jota. Also why risk injury to all 4 of your attackers at once? Now that they finally have some backup it doesn't make sense to risk his fitness as well. I think they played a game with a similar front 4 except with Shaqiri on the right and Jota on the left, which worked differently since Shaqiri plays deeper. That game the first half looked awful since Firmino played waay too far up field, leaving an ocean of space behind the front 4 and the midfield 2. Didn't look good at all lol. The use of the 4-2-3-1 has pretty much been forced by injury this season, just like all the other times Klopp deploys it.
