Isn't it simply understated that cataract will develop at 80?? Suvery tells most people will develop cataract in 5-10 years after surgery! What about glaucoma? Repositiong of lens due to rotation? What's the probability of these events? Of course it helps to see better without spects. But what we are risking is important! How many people have the lens implanted in their eyes for more than 15-20 years ?

1. On average cataract is already a case for 65+. You would remove the ICL and correct with the new artificial lens. 2. You are quoting obsolete data of the early 2000th. Those were a completely other generation of lenses. Modern lenses don’t have any higher impact on the lens. Also first signs of hazing and a full cataract are not the same (that was seen in that obsolete generation). 3. Rotation basically doesn’t exist. It only happens within the first month - can be corrected if it is severe enough. This would be even rarer. Obviously it only concerns toric lenses. If your eye was correctly checked and the space is available, this is literally the safest procedure of them all. All you will deal with is a small endothelial loss after surgery (each deep eye surgery costs a bit endothelial - but the damage is so small that it will stabilize very soon after). And you will likely have wide halos for about 6 months until your sight adjusts (effect of the modern lens design with the frontal port).

@@MetallicReghow will the decrease in endothelial count affect the eye health in long run

@@muskanjaisinghani9601 Depends on your overall endothelial density. In critically low density patients, any of these manipulations (not only ICL) are a disqualifying factor. The main function of the endothelial layer is to pump water out of your cornea. If their coverage is too low, the cornea may get less transparent which will lower the quality of vision (add artifacts etc). Every human starts with a big reservoir of those cells and loses them naturally over his lifetime. They are not replaced. Usually you will never dip below the critically low amounts of them in a normal life ~80-95y. When you have any kind of deep eye surgery, you will lose a bit of that reserve at the point of entry (they distribute later on). It doesn’t have an impact on your eye health as long as your overall reserve is safely above any limits.
