I had this surgery in my both feet. Not with this doctor but in London, UK. Most people talk about the recovery immediately after but not many talk what happens a few weeks or months down the line. Your foot will take about six months to fully recover, maybe more. During that time you can walk and work but wearing normal shoes is difficult because there is a lot of swelling still going on. In my left foot i experienced some pain around the ankle months after the surgery, usually happening when walking too much or standing up for too long. Swelling was there for about six months. In my right foot I didn’t feel any pain but swelling was there for much longer than the left. Seven months after the surgery I still have a swollen foot now and then. Overall i have been in soft trainers for over a year, no other type of shoes would be comfortable for me. Am I happy with the results? Definitely! I had very bad bunions in my feet, not only ugly but uncomfortable too. Now my feet look perfectly normal, no bunions and no more discomfort when walking. I say it was worth it going through all that.

Thank you for being very thorough on the bunion recovery with MIS. I had to search and do a lot of scrolling before coming to yours. I wanted to know if I needed a walker or cane but you explained how the boot works. Even my own DPM was not as detailed. I only knew I was wearing a boot and was told it would be about 12 weeks for recovery.

I didn't get near this amount of information. I am 8 weeks out of surgery, I limp heavily, I can't flex my big toe much without pain, my last toe knuckle was pinned for reasons I don't know. I was never told to exercise my toe knuckle. I wear the toe splint daily. I thought by 8 weeks I would be walking normally and even running. I can only walk slowly with a limp. Pressure on my little toes is painful. I have to say that this surgery has become depressing. I went to a top hospital in Houston and the surgery was very expensive.

Hello Dr Campitelli, Your videos are so informative. I have bunion on my big toe and tailor bunion as well. I have been looking for a good surgeon who can perform the same procedure that you do in Southern California. Do you have any recommendations for me? My insurance does not cover out of state even i really wanted to meet you in OH. Thanks so much.

Dr. Nick. Thank you for all the very informative videos. I have two questions. The doctors performing lapiplasty indicate that lapiplasty prevents recurrence at a much higher rate and fully corrects the problem vs minimum invasive. Thoughts? My feeling is minimum invasive works, if once healed the patient wears healthy shoes with a wide toe box that will prevent recurrence. Also roughly how long before a generally health patient that works a full time desk job can return to work?

I had bunion surgery 2 weeks ago and i still haven’t put weight on my foot. Im totally paranoid. I get my stitches out tomorrow. I had the bones broke in 2 spots and the bone shaved down. Do you think im gonna have bad pains when i finally sep on it? Im so nervous.

The MIS for bunions that you perform with no hardware, is there a chance of the bunion coming back? Unlike the bunion surgery where the big toe bone is cut and hardware is used to fuse them back together.

I still use hardware to fix it and the bone is cut and it is actually shifted over much farther than traditional bunion surgery. Check out some of my other videos! Thank you for this informative video. As a person who wants a bunion surgery, how long till I can start to work out again. I’m a big gym rat, so the thought of not working out for a long time makes me sad 😂

Are you talking about lapiplasty?
@footdoctor
@footdoctor Год назад
No. This is for minimally invasive bunion surgery. The lapidus type procedure has a much longer recovery and fuses a healthy joint in the arch.
