How Long Does Stucco Last with Painting.
What’s the Life Expectancy of Painted Stucco.
Stucco painting maintenance ideas and consequences.
Folks, have you ever considered the care and maintenance of your stucco home, or are you wondering whether stucco deteriorates? No.
However, the wood that surrounds windows, doors, and other areas actually needs more maintenance by painting than the stucco siding, especially where the sun and rain hit it the hardest. Thats life.
A word about this video: A few areas were beaten up. However, the GC repaired everything that needed attention quite thoroughly, and it now needs simple maintenance to last a few hundred more years.
Although stucco is one of the most durable surfaces or cladding available, it, like everything in life, has to be maintained for longevity.
Traditional stucco usually requires repainting every 7 to 10 years.
Thus, buy the best primer and paint available so you won’t have to do it so often.
I own a wooden home and paint, it seems, every 7 years; it sucks, but the alternative to doing nothing is much more work in the future.
• Stucco patches before ... Stucco work before and after the stucco is painted.
Our unique tip for all subscribers with a question is to type your question into our channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it’s done.

I've worked in the trades for decades and still find these videos useful. There is always something new to learn, even if it's a nuance on something you thought you already knew. However, what I have found frustrating is that Kirk repeatedly tells of his preference for his particular type of trowel yet never calls it by its proper name. Frequently he refers to it as a "Congo trowel" (cute, but no such animal), and once I heard him refer to it as a "swim trowel" as opposed to a "swimming pool trowel". I've used a pool trowel for years for drywall and plaster repair but have been somewhat dissatisfied because it has more flexibility than I want. For swimming pools this is great but not ideal for my use. Countless searches for the type of trowel Kirk uses have been fruitless because without a specific trade name search algorithms default to either square edge, full radius, or combination hybrid trowel types. Today I finally figured out what Kirk's trowel is called. A "silo trowel". This old dog is looking forward to learning what I think about it first hand.

I Love this channel ,, great subject , great content. Just had a 1921 house painted , over the original; unpainted stucco. Yes we did some small caulking and repairs, but the stucco and especially the wood trim , original, around the new windows, was well maintained. Very expensive properties on Vancouver Island , lots of homes like this. They are being painted to the new colours people like. Yes they look iwonderful , 2 coats high quality paint , high quality painters etc. After 20 years, I maintain homes that were painted, and the paint is still in perfect condition. I am not the painter. Stucco is an incredible product. I do maintain it for customers, and do acrylic covers on conctete walls etc in modern colours, thanks to Kirk & co

In Canada, because of the extreme temperatures, Stucco goes through a pretty rough time. The worst thing is when we apply in minus temperatures. We must make sure that we cover and heat until it completely dries. If not, then it will freeze and create a big problem. Other than that, 50 years is easy,for us. But maybe not for others. I agree with Kirk. Wood siding if painted and maintained also lasts, and is more tolerant to movement. I took original cedar siding off my 100 year old home and it was only painted twice but the pieces that still had paint were fine. Unfortunately cheap people buy cheap houses and just drive them into the ground. Maintenance always key. Lookin good Kirk 👍

I simply look at them and understand the time it would take to lath and then stucco them, these windows were a real bitch to lath, then needed an inch and a half to fill out to the existing walls plus the texture was tough as all sides were a bit different textures. Good morning, to protect plywood, I’d google the best sealer for that purpose, if your suggesting a sealer to use a sealer to apply stucco over it, there is no such sealer available that I am aware of sorry. You can have shipped two ply paper anywhere in the country if indeed your considering lathing that plywood prior to adding stucco.

Stucco is thousands of years old. Modern paints are a pretty recent invention. Paints a funny thing. In a system that's meant to be painted with modern paint, its great. On old old stucco, you gotta consider about a dozen things. Moisture. vapor permeability, insulation, solid stone wall or veneer with a vapor channel between them, seasonal temperatures, frost. I think they're still trying to figure things out in England where there's a lot of solid stone buildings, that lack insulation, set in a damp location. These new vapor permeable paints seem to be interesting. Maybe that's part of the solution. Stucco's not an easy thing. That's why 40 years of experience is a good thing.

Time in tends to be beneficial if one has to go back and fix mistakes. Now that’s the beginning of true wisdom. The castles, churches, pyramids and even the Great Wall of China all were built with lime stucco, thus didn’t need paint to last many centuries, but this is another story. Portland cement was discovered about 150 years ago in the UK and does indeed need maintenance. I know TMI.😉

@StuccoPlastering 16 дней назад
Howdy my friend, I’m familiar with line wire it’s as effective as the Sheetrock backing over studs. It sucks, but was a method used to try to save applying two or more inches between the studs. Here’s what you do for maximum results. First pressure wash the complete home wood to, then paint the wood with stucco- flex’s renew, go over the stucco at least two inches. This will give the impression to some your a lousy painter, but now you skim coat the stucco with Stucco-flex’s acrylic, this should give you at least 25 to 30 years of moister or rain protection if done correctly. Google the product no doubt our videos will appear, then call my pal Dan from stucco-flex. Dans in all my descriptions in the stucco-flex videos. Cheers😉💃🕵🏼‍♀️🕺🏼

Very different advice from what you've said in the past where cementitious products rather than latex/plastic coatings, like paint or synthetic stuccos were recommended. I understand patching cracks, but when did the advice change from fog coat to paint? I was under the impression that after six or seven coats of paint the permeability of the paint would be so reduced that the stucco would no longer be able to breathe , and then it'd have to be stripped using soda blasting, or, worse, replacing the stucco. Plus, paint it once and you have to repaint it every four to seven years which adds $400-$700 per year to the cost of ownership. It's not my problem anymore, but, I hate paint ever since my old HOA got convinced by the property management company that they should force everyone to "modernize" the color palette (the more knowledgeable pushed back saying there wasn't anything wrong with the stucco they had as long as they washed it with a soft bristle brush every year or so, but others got stuck painting dark brown). Non-resident HOA Board members don't listen to reason when they believe they can increase rents by accepting advice from professional property management companies.

@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 16 дней назад
Howdy fellas it’s a vibrations issue, areas where it snows often the vibrations still occur, the difference is most folks in theses areas are too cold and miserable to see the cracks thus can’t caulk them plus don’t understand why to. This causes a chain reaction for the rain to continue to fill then freeze expanding the cracks to where they eventually become so large they stretch the stucco resulting in tearing the paper. Now with each winter the water infiltrates the paper saturating the wood causing it to expand, now the process of wood rot really begins.
