Like magic, a video will appear to explain how it's done. \t This feature is miles ahead of any plastering forum. Kirk & Jason Giordano Plastering\t
Good morning Brian, it’s called Eco Stucco. There main office is in Marin, California, google “Eco Stucco” the depth of the vibrant colors can’t be matched by any paint, plus the health benifits of limestone is like living next to the ocean. No such value with any paint.😉🌊
Hay Kirk! Plasterer from the U.K. here. I’ve been a follower of your channel for a very long time. Just wanted to say I appreciate your content, man. ✌️
I like the look of those expansion joints, once it's painted to match the house , it will look just fine. Since you installed that expansion joint a couple of inches from the break, it would crack there instead. I would have scored a nice clean line and cut a straight clean line along that wall and tuck that piece under the cut and mud only one side of that joint.
@@StuccoPlastering Indeed, never fool proof. You guys ever do new construction? you have a great team of guys working for you. I know my plasterer has a real hard time keeping new guys, they just can't handle the hard work that comes with plastering. Usually quits within the first week.
@@brucewayne2773 my guys in the past and my sons today look at the task of stucco, as a great workout plus getting paid to stay in shape. I guess it depends on one’s attitude towards working.
We skim coated the concrete walls first with Portland cement stucco, in the video, we are applying an acrylic stucco finish, this was a very large job. We are showing the smallest wall.
Hey there, Mr G Hot walls are tough... Gotta stay in the shade or do early in the morning. Cold joints are not good and mostly have to be done again. Usually this means a skim of base, then the finish. If you finish over a finish coat, the pattern may be different with some finishes. Lots of fun!😊
Let’s just say we changed the plywood, insulation and inner Sheetrock, then re- stuccoed it properly. The paper failed as it was never sealed at the top.
You may be right as I’ve never heard of that, however if I shoot my leather boot with this kind of pressure for awhile, it will reveal my foot, if I keep on washing my bone will then be revealed, that might hurt. Besides in over 40 years this system has never failed yours truly.
Hello there, fellow Plasterer,Kirk! They couldn't control how guys were installing, or the quality of installation. And because of the guarantee that they had,it just wasn't working out the way they wanted,so they took all that away and let any Tom,Dick and Harry buy and install the way they wanted, without any warranty or concerns. Beware the fly by night stucco guy,lol
Hi Kirk, I plan on using La Habra Santa Barbara smooth finish base 100. I want the color coat to be white do I need to use a color pack or can I just mix the base 100 without the color pack? Thanks!
I moved into a stucco home which I love 7 years ago which was newly painted when I brought it and just like you stated 7 years later my house needs to be painted again so I appreciate your valuable info because I thought that I was just wanting a different color but it is in need . It has cracking by windows and peeling paint but unfortunately not many people here seem to know about stucco so your videos will be a Great help to learning how to ... I prefer smooth walls no texture it is kinda that way now so if you have a video you done for that I would be grateful also do you recommend any particular brand of paint .Thanks for sharing your knowledge stucco on east coast is far between guess like brick houses there .
Love watching you apply, you flow so smooth. Is there any advantages to using traditional lime plaster in bathrooms rather than modern day drywall mud? I'm remodeling my house down to the studs. Soon as I finish all the Electrical, plumbing, ducting, insulation, I'll be ready for drywall. I like how you can add color. Not a fan of the sky blue, but if I can add pigment to plaster, that'll be great because I absolutely hate painting and my painter past away last year at young age of 45. Thanks for all the content. I have learned a lot and you've helped me add another tool to my handyman toolbag, stucco repair, which makes me some good quick money since there's not a lot of stucco guys in placer county willing to do small stucco patches. There's some hacks, but I'm a perfectionist and I've always had a knack with mud and it's fun for me. I did all my stucco scratch coat patching around my new doors and windows at the end of fall before the rain hit, I'll be applying the brown coat and Omega acrylic finish coat on the entire house soon. I'll have to search your videos to check out acrylic finish coats, but I'm sure you have plenty of videos to give me the confidence to get it done without much trial and error and wasting some expensive material. See you next time Kirk.
@@StuccoPlastering Thanks for the suggestions. I was just going to use what my neighbor used on his house a couple years ago. He said it was easy to use and I liked the outcome, and it was his first time doing any stucco work. He also has deeper pockets than me, and I'm sure Omega is more expensive than the materials you listed. It come in too nice of bucket for it not to be the most expensive material. I didn't even look at the price per 5gal yet, I just knew it was going to cost a lot. I think it said that 5gal bucket only covered roughly 110sqft, so I didn't want to know the price until I had to. I'd probably need a pallet of those buckets for my only 950sqft home with 450sqft garage, and that's just the footprint, not the surface area of the walls. I'll look into those materials at the material yard I get my stucco supplies at. Thanks for the quick responses Kirk🤝
In an age of quiet quiting and moral equvalencies, I love that there are still people and families who believe their work and skill mattered even after they are well into their retirement. The satisfaction of a job well done is golden. Thank you or putting out these videos!
Morning, I’m no spring chicken, but like my sons enjoy creating a task well done. I get quiet sub conscious feeling, like no doubt all people get when doing rather than sitting.😉
For that application, I would want to break back more old stucco, add diamond mesh about 3 feet wide, and then the control joint. Love what you guys do!
Thank you, There was enough wire plus the homes was built pre 1980, thus a stud house. We would have had to break to the next stud 16 inches away. Jay did an excellent job breaking out to where necessary.
No Judgement here, of course I’m sure that this work was professionally completed… Its just one of those things when you spot the smallest thing and it’s noticeable by you and you can’t unsee what you’ve seen. 😮 the work looks great.
@@highvaluegem7303 lol, and thank you, question to all, do most folks realize they can watch the entire video by clicking the link under the short? Or do most choose not to because it’s over a minute and past most folks interest level?
@@StuccoPlastering Hey Kirk Thanks for mentioning that fact, I forget sometimes. I was just about to ask if you added color, paint or bonding agent to the plaster, or is plaster blue. I'll probably get my question answered soon, because I'm going to watch the entire video now.
Great info and great way of teaching! I recently started estimating for a stucco/stone/cladding subcontractor and this channel has been VERY helpful in learning the details I’m not privy to. ✌️
Howdy Leonard, when I’m explaining stucco things, I’m basically teaching my three sons so that they don’t have to learn the hard way. All though learning that way instills some serious retention. Cheers😉
@@StuccoPlastering Learning the hard way definitely speeds up the process! 😅Thanks again and enjoy the weekend (assuming you’re not working hard Saturday and Sunday)!
I just put on the Senergy Acrylic and it is REALLY runny so it did NOT go on like yours did. I wouldn't roll on well or trowel on well. This looks like an easier product to apply.
We’re spreading Dry-Vit, one of the best Acrylics sold also, BMI, Carson’s and Stucco-Flex are the go to acrylics. The product you applied ranks down with 4 others, all sold by the same company. I wouldn’t spread any of them for reasons I won’t mention here. As this is a rated G channel 😉💃
Expansion should be corner of all windows and doors as well as every 100 square foot . Also never on top of wire . That is the only way to prevent cracks ...
