One of the most popular questions for new tarantula owners is how long you should wait to feed your tarantula after it has molted. This is very common especially along new tarantula owners, or T owners that have just gotten a sling after raising adult tarantulas for the first time.

That was great. I have a little girl - Mexican red rump striped tarantula - and she moulted about 8 days ago. Between juvenile - sub-adult and still very fragile, fangs not 100% black yet but you helped make sense of things to me. Thank you.

Another nice vid : ) I learned, just this week, that fangs transition from white to reddish to black. I agree with your timescales, everyone will do it their own way but dealing with the aftermath of a soft tarantula injury is way more than I could handle. They’re also able to get moisture from their old moult straight after which is a huge pain when you’re trying to confirm sex XD

I always give it a week or more depending, but always check to be sure to look that my T's fangs are fully hardened. If I'm wondering, I can just use a straw and rub against them to feel how hard they are if she just sits there like normal. However, normally Ts will let you know as they sort of tend to assume the hunting/predatory/hungry position when they're ready as well. I'm just glad humans don't molt.

i have 2 Ts a Brazilian white knee which is still a sling, and a pink toe I'm not sure of the age but it's about 4-5 inch leg span both have molted about 2 and 3 weeks ago and neither will accept food. any advice?

Congrats on your sling! It might be in premolt or in winter hibernation mode. Try in a week or two :)

It depends on the age of the spider but generally most tarantulas are ready to eat again between 7-10 days

Not super unusual - a few times my tarantula has refused food for a while after a molt. Just keep trying every few days and make sure they have water!

Once the tarantula is ready to eat after the molt, fangs look good and all... should I feed it slightly more often than usual for the first couple of weeks?

Sorry this is such a late response. I think the spider's appetite will tell you. My Spidey, who is usually not very hungry, will naturally want to eat more often. I never give her more than one roach at a time, but I will offer it to her more often than usual. If she goes for it, great. If she doesn't, I back off. I do think it's important to try and see if they want to eat once their fangs are ready bc re-hydrating after a molt is very important.

My salmon pink bird eater has been in premolt for quite a while, it finally molted but I’m not sure how long it has been since it molted. I found the molt about 4-5 days ago but I’m not sure how long ago it has molted

My "no-one knows what the hell species she is" sling molted on saturday night, I found her molt discarded outside her hide on sunday morning. As she hides all the time I can't see her fangs, but I figure 4 days should be enough before offering her food again... that was pretty much the timescale for my GBB sling when she molted, and they're about the same size.

Hi! It depends on the age! Generally for younger tarantulas 4 days to a week is good, but full grown tarantulas may need up to 10 days. You want to wait until the fangs turn black bc that means they are hard enough to feed.
