I always order from Murray McMurray hatchery. Post office always holds the chicks and calls me for pick up.
@TheAbleFarmer
@TheAbleFarmer 5 лет назад
Murray Mcmurray is probably my favorite too. Thought I would try something new. The post office usually calls and I have the option of them holding them or dropping them off. If I am home I have them drop them off because we are pretty early in their route. Last 2 times they never called. Hoover said they should have been here the day before. So they went from Wednesday to Saturday in the mail.

Murray's McMurray Hatchery has not let me down., now and a couple decades ago. Now that I saw all the video, call your main distribution post office. You should use the post office tracking. Call the post office the day before to find out what time you can pick them up.

As for the getting to big to fast, I have the current worlds heaviest chicken (a whopping 24.5 pounds) and he grew very quickly. The other chicken I bought grew much faster than him, and was nearly unable to walk at 2 weeks. She stopped growing after 5 weeks, and lived to 8, before a heart attack. The world record chicken, just kept growing. He was born in April last year, and stopped growing about 3 months ago. In the last three months he has increased in weight by half a pound. He can walk fine, and even still run, primarily when scared or for a hen. I keep him inside at night, less cold and prevent the neighbors from hearing the crows in the morning. Bath every 2 weeks to stop mites and keep him clean. hes in perfect health, except for a "callous" of the back of his calf. He sits there, but it really protrudes sideways.

Howdy I know it's frustrating when mail order critters arrive dead (colony of bees for me), but I've ordered from hoover hatchery for all my birds, both layers and Cornish cross. So far, knock on wood, I've had just one die in three shipments. My Cornish cross shipment had ten extras in it. I called to make it right and they said no charge since it was their error.

Wow that's terrible! I've been ordering my chicks this summer from Hoover Hatchery via Tractor Supply - Tractor Supply has sent out emails and text alerts when they ship, and only takes 2 days. Like, mailed on Wed, received on Friday. Also, my post office calls me as soon as they arrive and I run get them. Out of 90, I've lost 3, with is a 1.03% death rate, not bad for mailed chicks in my opinion. And it was one particular shipment, 2 were Blue Andalusians, might be a little less hardy but they are definitely smaller. Note: I think they are cheaper through TS, but you have to watch for availability if you are wanting a certain type. Anyway I am loving your videos, thank you!!!

They resent my order free of charge (of course). Those chicks arrived with no problems. Hoover hatchery did in fact email me but it went in my spam folder and i didn't see it. The chicks that arrived dead took an extra day to get here. It was more of an issue with USPS than with the hatchery I believe.

I used to have very good luck with hatcheries twenty years ago, but now the hatcheries are over whelmed by all of these Mc Farmstead people. The quality of service has gone down. I used McMurray for years , but now use Cackle hatchery. But again the service has fallen. I ordered new blood for my flock and a few turkeys , out of 45 birds , 12 lived. At least they gave them to me for free. But I ordered 45 butcher chickens for Cornish game hens and they were sent Wed. Arrived Saturday! Five dead on arrival. Five more dead the next day! Too long in shipping! I remember when they used to over night them. By the way I got two years out of a Cornish hen , she laid eggs but eventually dropped over. My broad breasted butcher turkey is three years old but crippled. I have butchered a Cornish rooster and he dressed at 15 pounds. Nice. Try looking into caponizing.

Hey I just found your channel and subscribed I did so because you seem like a normal healthy American family and obviously your daughter has the right State of mind when she says the bunnies are going to be delicious honestly she probably won me over I have been raising chickens but I've been trying to convince my wife 2 let me set up some rabbit hutches I've been told that with the right breed 2 bucks in 3 does can produce more meat then the average bovine don't get me wrong I love red meat but I think with the times were in we should all be looking at becoming self-sufficient at least one step at a time.
