How Long will An $100 Amazon Impact Wrench Last In Our Testing?

It is mind-blowing as to how many different impact wrenches you can buy on Amazon! The cost of most of them is around $100 and the features they include are amazing when compared to what we can get for the same price at a local big box store.
The goal of our video was to see how long a $100 impact wrench purchased from Amazon would survive in the normal testing we put name brand tools through daily. You see every bit of use and testing in this video so it is easy to see how long it took for us to get the Amazon impact wrench to start smoking.
We were very surprised in the feel and general feature set that came with the Amazon impact wrench. For a tool that comes with a 5Ah battery and is less than $100, it did well through most of the testing.
Here are some of the specs listed for this exact tool:
No Load Speed (var. 4 spd) : 0-1,000 / 0-1,600 / 0-2,200 / 0-2,700 RPM
Impacts Per Minute (var. 4 spd.) : 0-1,500 / 0-2,000 / 0-2,800 / 0-3,500 IPM
Maximum Torque (ft.lbs./Nm) : 258 ft.lbs./350Nm
Nut-Busting Torque (ft.lbs./Nm) : 325 ft.lbs./440Nm
Overall Length : 8-1/5"
Net Weight (tool only): 2.6lbs.
Net Weight (with battery) : 3.8lbs.
Battery : 18V 5.0Ah Lithium-Ion
Charger Output : 3A

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ru-vid.comUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

I do car maintenances such as brakes and struts for 2 vehicles (my wife's 2010 Prius and my 2007 Tacoma). I do these tasks not too often so I can't justify spending a lot of money for a quality brand names. Also I'm cautious of my tools and take good care of them so I think purchasing the cheaper ones as long as they meet the torque requirements, I'm happy. Thanks for making this video.

The abuse that took should never be done to anything you want to keep working. Once it gets hot, reach for another tool until it cools off. Would you keep driving your car when its overheating? A test to see its limits, awesome, Now you know not to drop it off a roof and to use a high torque impact for lug nuts. The tool is a $100 mid torque tool, not a $350 heavy-duty Milwaukee. I for one am thoroughly impressed, in fact blown away. Try that on a Black&Decker Craftsman Kobalt Ryobi etc. In fact the Dewalt mid model would fail.

I agree 1000%. No impact wrench is gonna go through that much abuse in a given day at a shop let alone with someone who's just using it at home which is what alot of guys buying from Amazon are using them for. I bought the Popoman impact wrench from Amazon for home use and it's taken off every lug nut and tractor blade I've tried it on. Not to mention everything else I've done with it but it doesn't get the abuse shown in the video either

Lol great video man, loved the torture testing. You weren't half joking when you said Amazon was packed with impact wrenches and other assorted 20 volt max platform tools. How ironic is it that I spent hundreds of dollars on proto ratchets 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" extensions, deep sockets, all metrics, all standard sizes and I go out and spend 70 bucks on an impact wrench? 🔧

The reviewed Hychika drill sells at Walmart for $39.99 delivered. I already have a brushed Hychika cordless drill and a brushless hedge trimmer that I am very satisfied with, so I bought it just to have an extra 20V battery and charger The drill I got drills easily 1.5" holes in dimensional lumber (at the high speed setting, using a Forstner bit) and clocks on my tachometer 2100 RPM at no load. It performed for me better than the reviewed drill and had no chuck slippage on tightening - I would say that the difference from DeWalt is imperceptible. . The Hychika tool is probably not as durable as DeWalt, but for home use it does the same job at less than one fifth the price!

I had submitted some ideas to H.Freight so in the future hopefully we'll be able to tailor the torque of these power tools . Although don't get rid of your torque measuring devices as what I have suggested is to prevent overtorque and just get the torque within the ball park . Although one of those ideas will probably get the torque dead on but I doubt they'll do it due to being complicated and probably too expensive .

I'm a mechanic in a very busy shop that specializes in corvettes and classic cars and when i watch tool reviews I'm always wondering where you guys come up with a lot of the ways you do tests. For a tool like this the only test you really need is torque the lug nuts down to a specific number and see if it breaks them loose! And from what number. As a professional i would NEVER hammer on my impact for 1-2 minutes straight non stop but i guess for long term durability it's a legit test

I carry a 2' breaker bar in all of my cars, but if you have physical limitations that won't allow that I recommend you look at this kit, (or a similar one). The wrench does not work like your typical impact wrench but rather it ramps up the speed of the anvil then when the dogs catch it hits with a "clack!". Many people would consider this to be a toy but they actually do work, plus you get a 12V electric jack all in a nice carry case. There used to be videos on RU-vid some years ago with similar kits, maybe you can do a search and see if one is right for you before you buy. If you want just the wrench, they sell them on Amazon, eBay and at Harbor Freight. tinyurl.com/ych8ooel *EDIT:* Here is a guy using one the the 12V impacts on wheel nuts. The only thing he does on his channel is review impact wrenches so you'll see him using this wrench on fasteners they weren't meant for. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-euMIEHxNn58.html

Tool looks like a copy of a Makita. These tool, just the plain tool, not battery, are selling on Amazon for about $35-$40. Makita has a very similar plastic piece on front. I wonder if the tool might have died as a result of being overheated by being abused in the vice. I know it worked afterwards, but it might of taken a bit of time for the heat to spread to the component that eventually failed - typically a cheap capacitor. And I wonder if it would have died had it been dropped while it was at a normal temperature. Similar Makita tool sells for about $200 on amazon. Talking about the least powerful Makita battery powered 18v impact wrench.

I totally agree with the too much technology. Just look at all the people who pay 1000 or more for a phone. 10 years ago it was 200. The wife and I watched idiocracy the other I feel and think our world is headed in that direction

Not directed at you, but why would anyone buy a 100 dollar knock off POS when you can buy a Makita or Milwaukee impact for the same price?
@Trenchboi69

Cause you’re not getting a charger as well for the same price if u don’t already own one?

And because not everyone lives in the US - you guys get those name brand tools dirt cheap compared to many other countries.
@AlexConnor_

Try $50 off ebay for tool/2x batteries/charger. Under $30 for the bare tool if you already have Makita batteries. Got one for home because I got a few Makita batteries, does lug nuts and light suspension work no problem. Have my Milwaukee impact guns at work and they are different league but for that money zero complaints.

Just picked up a $70 20v 1/2” chuck cordless impact wrench with 1.5amp Li-on battery by PRYMAX from Amazon; gonna get it tomorrow, and re-visit this comment to update on whether or not it’s suitable for lug nuts requiring 80-100ft lbs for removal/replacement.

While I generally think that you abuse lower end tools beyond what's realistic. Not being able to take a single drop on the battery is why this tool is only around $100 for all the features in it.

One day we will find a low end tool that takes all the abuse and it will all be worth it. 😁👍

2 of my favorite sayings come into play here, you get what you pay for and buy once cry once. Now that being said one would think that spending $110.00 on a tool it should last a little longer then this one did. $110.00us to Can is $145.00. For $145.00 I can buy Ryobi or for another $20.00-30.00 I can get a Ridgid. Maybe I am just expecting to much for this kind of money.
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 3 года назад
Current Ryobi tool does not have this power. I expected that this tool should have lasted a lot longer!
@MarkK01
@MarkK01 3 года назад
@@WorkshopAddict I agree with you. It should have lasted longer. This is also 1 of the reasons I tend to buy brand names. I am sure there are some great off brand name tools out these. They just not for me. I am not a rich man by any means, I just like buying what I am comfortable buying.
@MarkK01

@@WorkshopAddict Also, that is why it is so important for me to rely on channels like yours before I buy the tools that I do own. I have bough so many Milwaukee power tools because of channels like yours.
