If you've ever had a filling then you can relate to the weird feeling of having a fat lip for a few hours after you leave the dental office. One of the questions I get a lot is how long will my lip be numb? When can I eat again?
That's a really great question and the answer really depends on a few main things. The generic answer is it will take 2-3 hours for the anesthetic to wear off, but you wouldn't be reading this if you wanted the generic answer.
The main things that determine how long the anesthetic will last in your mouth are:
1) Your genetics and metabolism
2) Type of anesthetic used
3) Amount of anesthetic used
4) Location of numbness (top vs bottom jaw)
Today's video goes into more detail about how these factors affect how long your lip will be numb.
