Holy cow...99% of these surgeries should have never happened..it's a business

I honestly thing the odds are closer to 50/50 based on extensive research and my own experience. I had one recently and my gums and part of my chin and tongue feels numb despite the dentist saying no damage

So mine is a year already and my tongue hasn't fully recovered. I had to remove the wisdom tooth and the impacted tooth cos it was causing me so much pain and food was always getting stuck within that space Now my problem is, I've been using the other side to chew but because I have a wisdom tooth on the other side too, I feel pains whenever I chew just like I felt on the side that was operated. Now, I can only eat soft foods cos there's pain on one end and a tingling sensation on the other and so I can't chew, I'm worried that if I remove the other wisdom tooth, I can have the same tingling sensation and I'd rather not😢

The risk is low but then when you go get your wisdom teeth out, they make you read and sign a paper telling you the risk, My dentist did it for 40 years and have 100% success rate! If you dont have a problem with your wisdom teeth then dont risk it. That my opinion. Its look like most of them want to make more money and ask all there clients to get there wisdom teeth removed.

Yeah that's why my dentist did a due to the high risk of paralysis if he took the whole entire wisdom tooth out

@@ThisChannelFTW yes I had it taken out. It actually went very well. I've had some really bad experiences with dentists so I kept putting it off. The surgeon that took it out was fantastic. So was his assistant. Still gotta have the others done but I'm saving up and having them done all at once.

I am 32 years old. I have just had 3 wisdom teeth extraction. I don't feel pain, but I feel my teeth are pulled out. Is it numb?

@@yan_ki9597 It has! I actually hadn’t thought about it recently, but everything is almost completely normal again. The “electric jolts“ didn’t last terribly long; maybe a week or two at the most. Some tingling/numbness hung around for a few months, but that was just annoying. I hope all works out well for you!

It happened to me. Avoid any doctor that acts like they're in a rush. You can see my post above. The pain was agonizing for 2 months. Now I have almost no sense of taste. Sometimes I can't even feel the burn of listerine, and my doctor would not say anything more than it will heal in time. I've had 3 months of no taste now and a paralyzed tongue. Make sure your doctor is gentle and a peace with his work. Mine was aggravated with the tooth and shaking.

I had 3 wisdom teeth removals in one day, back in Dec, so it's been almost 3 months. And one of them was just like you described. I feel broken after that. I barely felt anything about other 2 extractions, and any discomfort, but with that tooth, I lost a lot of feeling in my lower right jaw, I can't eat on that side and I have burning and painful sensations even when I put my chap stick. My lips are hurting, I have this pulling sensation. After the surgery I felt like I broke the bone, I just didn't feel the lower right quarter of my jaw and teeth and I still feel my teeth strange. That wisdom tooth was under the gum, sitting on the nerve and was pulled on the side and my gums around my nearest molar were cracked, besides that hole. I went through weeks of pain and disability, couldn't work, couldn't move or sleep, it's hard to even explain that pain caused by nerve, it's like you keep getting electric shocks. After 3 months, I was supposed to heal but I still feel numb and numb pain. My surgeon says he didn't damage the nerve, he didn't see it broken after he pulled out my tooth. BUT LATER I was reading in these cases maybe they can just shorten the tooth so it doesn't cause bone damage to the other, but not to do this aggressive pulling out. I also felt it, he cracked me while I was still awake, I felt cracking sound, horrible pain, and then passed out. So if you can, ask if they can just do something else, as cut the tooth, instead of pulling, or do it somehow gentle. I wish I didn't do this, but my dentists and my financial situation didn't allow me and I was supposed to pull these decades ago. Luckily I didn't. I only had these extractions because I had bone damage of having these wisdom teeth for too long and they were pushing the other molars. So to save the other molars I had to pull these out. But maybe the nerve sitting one could be done in a different way.

@@Mar-op2sd I got them removed! It’s been a while but the procedure went smoothly me I took the route of getting the one risky side only partially out and they left the bottom of the tooth in so it didn’t have a higher risk of nerve damage

I'm having the same issue my half of lip and under my lips very strong numbness and still didn't go away. Its really hard to talk is like heavy....when i eat it gets more numbness. It just turn to 7 months now. I'm trying to be positive. You wrote 8 days ago so I think its same right?

@@uchennamgbeahuru it will eventually come back.. took 8 years for me to get sensation. I still have moments were my face feels paralyzed but for most part I'm like 80% better.

@@llovely555 Yes it is the same. The bottom part of my right gum, chin and lip and the 2 sides of my tongue has been numbed since the wisdom teeth extractions. It’s been 4 years now. :(

How are you now? I jot my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and this os happening to me😭 how are you now?

I had mine in December. It still feels numb, I have to think how I'm holding my lips otherwise I feel like I'd look weird. My surgeon says the nerve was not damaged. But Why do I still feel so uncomfortable and that part of my jaw feels just strange, and numb pain. I cannot for sure eat on that side anymore.

@@Mzd455 Yeah. I don’t chew on the right side at all anymore. I also drool sometimes or forget I can’t feel the side of a cup when I’m drinking something. I wouldn’t recommend going to a neurosurgeon because they’ll just say it’s permanent like mine did. It’s a waste of money and energy. how did you decide? I would say checking more dentists, maybe someone can remove it without causing nerve damage, my painful experience taught me that an experienced and careful dentist matters much more than I thought! I had a dentist who is confident but lack of experience dealing with complicated situation and caused nerve damage. I'm now in regret.

and cutting the nerve itself can cause pain too, so it may solve the existing wisdom pain but cause another pain, maybe even worse

I have the same problem on the bottom left side, after a failed dental implant was removed 1.5 years ago? It is awful feeling, I keep hoping I will find something that will help with the pain and discomfort. I live in Canada, and the Maxillofacial surgeon says there is nothing they can do, other then pain medication which I refuse to take.

Just go to your trusted oral surgeon. I have a lot of family that is in their late 20s and 30s and never experienced numbness and pain. I had a bad experienced tho. I have numbness in my left lower chin and lip right now. But they say it will go away. If its reAlly painful , might as well just have it removed!!! They always say theres a risk. Just go to the expert and experienced surgeon. The dentist did my extraction and damage my nerve..

And I heard a lot of people that the numbness will go away on its own after couple weeks or months.. mine is 2 weeks post op. And i feel like its slowly getting better and better

I’m 28 and just got mine out a month ago because it was causing me so much pain and making me feel really ill. The aftermath was honestly the most painful experience of my life, but I’m finally coming out of it now. No numbness but still have occasional nerve pain, especially with hot/cold temperatures

Hi. I’m 2 days past my surgery (impacted inferior wisdom tooth) and I felt the same electric shock too when the dentist was extracting the tooth. My right side of the lip and chin are completely numb. I have parenthesia. How are you feeling right now?

unfortunately for me i had to get my wisdom tooth pulled out now in my 30s bc i developed a cyst which apparently is something that can happen with impacted wisdom teeth. so sometimes, like me, you have no choice.

You aren’t alone I got all 4 taken out last week and had a bone graft of my jaw. In healing I had abnormal swelling and pain. So bad I passed out multiple times been crying constantly for a Week straight. Thought maybe I just had a rough recovery while doctors were telling me it wasn’t normal pain. 8 days later found out I had nerve Damage. I can’t talk I can’t eat… The pain is constant and unrelenting. I have numbness in my toungue lips and chin. Pain in my neck ears chin nose cheeks teeth, it’s terrible. I even had pain in my arms! The pain was the worst I ever experienced my entire life and I’ve beeeeeeen through it and have had multiple surgeries for my diseases but this… nothing like this in my life came close to the pain. I’m crying constantly. I feel for you and am praying for you and for everyone dealing with this and any health issues. I can’t talk and I’m a singer and streamer… I can’t communicate at all now… I pray this goes away and my doctor actually gives me pain killers instead of saying narcotics are bad… like living in constant pain not being able to eat talk sleep live… that’s bad… ugh why just why…

NOT A DR, but I think that might be a positive that you are getting these shocks, The nerve not completely severed and it's it's having communication problems. I got the electric shock when they cut through my never, but nothing since, and everything is numb

It’s not as low as they make it out to be. There are many comments going through the same thing. It’s the oral surgeon’s fault not the dentist’s.

Dentists don't always fully inform the patient of the risks, though. My dentists did an x-ray but didn't tell me that there was a nerve close to my right wisdom tooth. I'd say that's pretty scummy.

@@user-xv6sr2xx4j i noticed that too. i was scheduled to have them pulled out but no one has ever informed me about the risks so being the typical analyzer that i am, the day before i was to have the operation, i literally cancelled because i went online and did a simple research. and with all these comments, i'm NEVER doing anything to my teeth. EVER. i personally know a woman who's been dealing with Trigeminal Neuralgia for YEARS. miserable pain. i feel really bad for her.

Some doctors are dumb a** .. sorry for that, he should have explained to you the risks before the surgery .. i had the same condition with my wisdom teeth but they did brief me of risking lifetime numbness after which I happily declined the surgery

I have a similar issue and I'm trying láser therapy. I've read it's helped people with their recovery. Try a different doctor and see if they can recommend you some place to go for this alternative. It won't work if the nerve was cut all the way though...

@@0kazaki in spanish it's called "estudio de potenciales evocados" which is mainly having electrodes on your head and undergo stimuli. If the nerve was cut through the only chance of fixing it is undergoing micro surgery to re-connect it. Talk to your doctor to discuss your options, as every person is different. I got my wisdom teeth removed in Sept 2019 and the right side of my tongue is still numb.

Don't worry I also had my wisdom teeth pulled out last December 2021,I couldn't feel my right lower chin ,lip, teeth and half of my tongue,but it didn't bother me, tho first few weeks I had a tingling feeling, it's 4 months now and it's almost completely back to normal, am leaving a normal life.Just don't think about it too much, the feeling comes back

I had a failed implant that was removed, in November 2022, and has left me with numbness in the chin, teeth, gum, and lip on the bottom left side of my mouth. I have been begging for some treatment, but the periodontist that did the implant wanted me to wait a year. I have then seen a Maxillofacial specialist and he thinks permanent nerve damage, I have gone for nerve simulation at a clinic, physiotherapy, everything.. nothing helps. My family want me to get a lawyer as you suggested?

The periodontist either place the implant too deep or drilled too deep into the inferior alveolar nerve. You should have a cone beam CT (CBCT) scan taken. The oral surgeon should have taken one. There are speciality trained oral surgeon who do nerve repair surgery. Most are on the east coast. One in Chicago.@@danielleguertin

She should’ve seen an OMF surgeon, get a CBCT, you are right. Some cases should better be reffered to someone with more experience/knowledge.
