For less money one can have a much more powerful generator that will run nonstop as long as you have fuel. The jackets @ 1500 watts is peanuts and as you’ve already noted you might get. 12 to 15 hours out of it. It’s for very short term emergency power, better suited for camping.

I disagree. If you use the solar panel it will run 24/7 as long as there is sun. Gas prices are outrageous and oil changes ...noise ...And you can't bring a gas generator in your house.😮

Noise? Yeah if you are using a 15 year old or a $100 Walmart generator. As for solar panel; solar cant keep up with a high energy demand. Its not going to work like a residential solar panel system. If you use it while its charging, not only would it put more stress on the battery but it will also not charge as well. You can also store diesel for way longer than the battery's longevity. I dont see this holding 100% charge for close to a year. Whereas I can store a barrel of diesel for decades. Anyone is way better off putting those 2 thousand on a silent diesel generator or putting it as a down payment for a residential back up diesel generator. That will outperform a residential solar panel system for the next 40 years. I strongly agree with Paul, its good for short term outdoors and quick emergency. But this is not sustainable solution as a stationary back up generator. If you are worried about backing up the heating of your house, you might as well invest in a dedicated electrical back up and not play games with an Amazon consumer experiment.

How about a video on how to provide battery backup for hydronic gravity systems that only require (?) 24/25 volts and low current for operation ? They use systems like the Resideo Y8610U control. They are popular systems in older homes in the upper Midwest. A freeze up will devastate these systems.

Although I would choose this over an Anker brand, i'm still very skeptical about dumping over a grand on an electrically charged power station. Although its allot more portable and safer than a diesel generator, I dont see it being as reliable. For one my biggest issue is how long can it hold a charge. Which is the issue with battery generators since ever. Which is why renewable energy is not as efficient as it could be. For the most part batteries of any size either have a low capacity or loose charge over time too quickly. If I were to charge this fully, I dont expect it to retain charge for close to or far less over a year. Whereas I could store diesel for much longer. Apart from that, I dont know how long it would be safe from deterioration. If I leave it sitting without use for two years, im not sure if it will function right. I just find this to be very situational. More useful for short term outdoors activity or bringing power where ventilation or cable just isnt feasible (like far into a tunnel or a big basement). Perhaps very useful for apartment or cramped living space, to avoid a noise ordinance. But its still a gamble whether it would last long, even if holding a charge isnt the issue. Maybe charge it with a diesel generator during the day and then use it at night to not bother the neighbors? Just too situational.

So you can leave it plugged in and run a discharge cycle every 3 months or so. I have the 880 model which is half price and still can run my furnace for a couple of hours continuously (4 or more hours intermittently if i turn on my gas fireplace also). Si I can get over a cold night without having to go out at 2 AM to take the gas generator out of the garage and hook it up. I'll do that if the power is out for much longer , of course.

Jackery needs to step up its battery technology, at this point it is old tech and the life expectancy is way shorter than the competition.

You should watch his other videos in his playlist. The VTOMAN 1000- lasted 14 hours that he reviewed a month ago and is considerably less expensive than the $1599 Jackery (Amazon has $300 off coupon bringing it to $699). Even the EcoFlow he reviewed only lasted 10 hours!

Lol, i couldnt believe he mentioned three pretentious chinese brand that hardly deliver half of what they describe to do. Power stations are just barely out of their infancy to accommodate the "renewable energy" demand. I wouldnt use one for anything besides short term outdoor activity or a short term emergency. To actually use this as a stationary back up is very experimental and pushes its purpose. I would just stick to diesel generator and call it a day. I would like to see this unit be stress tested though

Ac or Dc blower motor as I’d think that would make a difference on run time..

Hi all. Thanks DIY Guy. Since it was really cold out, I thought it was a good indicator of how long it might also run in the summer with the AC running. I have oil heat so I also wonder how long it would last on my system. I was thinking about getting an EMP shield device for my house, it also protects against lightning strikes and I hear insurance companies offer a discount if installed. It coast about $400. I was wondering if you have any thoughts, or maybe you could do a video on it. Thanks. Enjoy the ride.

I dont think that unit has enough power output to run an AC unit. AC would pull in excess of 3000W which exceeds the max of this Jackery.

I made a small circuit from an ATTiny CPU that wakes itself up every so often, checks the thermostat line for demand, and if there is demand it powers on the battery pack and fires the furnace. If there is no demand it goes back to sleep and waits a period of time, wakes up, and runs through the cycle again. The ATTiny uses Pico-Amps during sleep and barely a few milliamps when it's awake. This small circuit allows devices like the Jackery (or other battery packs) to last and run for days if not weeks.

I used to be a Jackery fan boy but recent events have changed that. I too own a Bryant furnace and I too own a Jackery 1500 (standard version and 3 other versions as well) and my power was out for 12 hours a few days ago. I plugged my furnace into my Jackery the way you have yours setup and it worked once and that was it. Seems that these units float the ground and my furnace doesn't like that. My furnace only came on for one cycle and then wouldn't come on after that. I called Jackery and they didn't have an answer for me but told me they would get back to me. That was 2 days ago and I know they have my phone number because they texted me at the time to tell me that they have my phone number and that they would get back to me. I'm glad I'm not sitting here in the cold waiting for a response. I plugged my outlet tester into the 1500 to find out that there is no ground on these units. My solution was to take a cheetah plug that has an external ground wire and extend it so that it now reaches the outlet plate and grounded it that way. Now when I need to run the furnace I plug the cheetah plug into the 1500 and then my furnace plug into that. I haven't tried the furnace using this method but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I tested this out the other day and found out it DOESN'T work. I ended up buying a bonding plug on Amazon that bonds the neutral to ground and then using a 3 to 1 adapter plug. I tested that with a wall plug AC outlet ground tester and when plugged into the Jackery it shows proper grounding when all 3 pieces are in place (The bonding plug, 3 in one adapter and of course the ground tester).
@diyhvacguy
@diyhvacguy Год назад
Have you tried a neutral bonding plug?
@davidp419
@davidp419 Год назад
@@diyhvacguy Yes, just purchased one from Amazon. It did nothing because I've come to understand that the ground hole on Jackery units (maybe other manufacturers too) are non-functional. they are there to accommodate a 3 prong plug and nothing more.
@mewtwo255200
@mewtwo255200 Год назад
Plugging in a bonding plug directly into a Jackery will not work. In order to get a “ground” you will need a power strip. Plug the power strip into the jackery, insert the bonding plug onto one of the outlets on the power strip, and then insert the plug of your device into one of the outlets on the same strip. Your device will now detect a “ground” and should function properly.
@davidp419
@davidp419 Год назад
@@mewtwo255200 Yes, you're right. Bought the bonding plug and teamed it up with a 3 in 1 adapter plug and now there is a ground. I'm going to assume that if I plug my furnace into the 3 in 1 plug it will "see" ground and function properly.
