It's fascinating. The blow hole looks like a human nose with the nostrils flaring as it takes in a deep breath, before curve-diving down deep into the watery abyss. Even the long spine is so strong and graceful. ❤❤❤
Blue whales can live to be over 100, and Bowhead whales have a maximum natural lifespan of around 270 years. The same whale could meet your grandfather and your great-grandchildren, and outlive them. Amazing to think about.

I heard about one that died (though, I don't recall HOW it passed) and when biologists dissected it, they found both an older-style harpoon from the 1800s, and a newer style harpoon with an explosive head from sometime in the 1900s. It was at LEAST two hundred years old when it died, and survived multiple attacks by whalers (obviously). Know what even crazier? A large percentage of wild-caught clams from the Atlantic are at least hundreds of years old? If you've eaten wild-caught clams sourced from the Atlantic, you've almost certainly eaten animal flesh that was older than the United States, possibly even ones alive when the Pilgrims crossed the ocean.

Until I was told at the age of seven that Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy, witches, goblins, monsters and all the usual suspects. Were simply stories passed down throughout the ages. Yes evolution is amazing. Adaptation for life, the will to thrive in one’s environment, took this majestic creature from a land living creature 50 million years ago, to this. The largest animal to ever roam the earth what we know of as is. Not even the dinosaurs who owned the planet for over 150 million years could compete with the size of a blue whale. Amazing!

Stunning. They have a life-size model of a blue whale at the Natural Museum in Washington DC. It's not the same as seeing them beautifully alive. I would absolutely love to not only see one up close but to gently touch one. I wanted to become a Marine Biologist when i went to college but my father changed my major to computers for a reason of his own. They keep growing all their lives females are larger than male's the biggest blue whale ever recorded was a female that was killed by a whaling fleet she measured 120 feet long! Sad how many beautiful blue whales were killed back then😢
@robertljazz2796 I am aware. I started studying marine biology since before I went to college. My hero...Jaques Cousteu. If it wasn't for my father changing my major in college, I would have graduated with a double major, but he cut that out. It didn't stop me from studying it even to today, and I'm almost 60. I care very much for the marine mammals big-time, but the entire ecosystem is extremely important also. But imagine, a little girl visiting that museum for the first time looking up at the life-size model of the blue whale. I felt like an ant to it. But also I found it quite beautiful. As are all GOD'S creatures and creations.
@@cassieolson2958 that's awesome Cassie, whales to me are the epitome of God's creation they are massive but so gentle, the Blue Whale to me is my favorite mammal in the Animal kingdom! It's unbelievable how something so big just glides through the water with ease and people who have seen them in their element are so lucky! My dream is to see one on a Whale watching tour! I did a book report when I was in 6th grade on the blue whale and I have forever been fascinated with them. They have second largest eye in the Animal kingdom 10 inches in diameter, only the giant squid has a larger eye at 18 inches! Also a blue whale calf is the faster growing mammal on earth when they are born they are already close to 30 feet long and when nursing they gain 500 pounds an hour ! With drone footage of blue whales they look like a living submarine! I have also heard the the baleen brushes in their mouths is a blackish blue color! God gave us the whales to truly show us how small we are in this world! Thank God whales are protected for the most part now, especially the Blue Whale , it would absolutely be a tragedy if they went extinct and we never would have got to see them. I have seen that model in the Smithsonian in DC , I looked at it in awe when I first saw it!
