In today's video we talk about what LVMH does better than Kering, how LVMH supports young and emerging designers through prizes and initiatives + the impact LVMH has had on the success of many designers such as Marine Serre, Thebe Magugu & Virgil Abloh.
The LVMH Prize rewards the winner of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers with a 400,000-euro endowment and a tailored mentorship by LVMH teams. Moreover, the winners of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize and of the Savoir-Faire Prize receive a 200,000-euro allocation and also enjoy a one-year mentorship by LVMH teams.
Driven by a “passion for creativity”, LVMH launched in 2013 the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. This patronage embodies the commitment of the Group and its Houses towards today’s young designers who will be tomorrow’s rising stars.
Each year, the LVMH Prize rewards young fashion designers, selected for their talent and outstanding creativity. Thanks to the mentorship and the endowment enjoyed by the winners, the LVMH Prize enables the emergence of a new generation of designers.
Because both its roots and its future are intimately linked to creativity, LVMH and its brands have always actively nourished creative talent.

Yeah, Bernard definitely gives the benefit of the doubt to designers more than François. Which i believe is due to him being proved wrong during Lee time with his own label (Alexander McQueen). After his time at Givenchy. He was ruthless towards Lee due to Galliano transcendence at Dior. And wanted that dearly from Lee at the time. But oh boy, he was in for a surprise with Lee becoming the greatest designer in all of fashion!!

I believe that seeing familiar faces makes people more attracted and loyal to a business or brand, which has contributed to LVMH's growth and recognition. Virgil Abloh was already gaining prominence with Off-White before joining Louis Vuitton. Pharrell Williams is a household name and highly influential among Gen Z. Similarly, Marc Jacobs had established his own namesake label and was well-known in the fashion industry before he joined Louis Vuitton. Additionally, the LVMH Prize demonstrates their commitment to supporting emerging talents. While it would be fantastic if other companies launched similar initiatives, the allure of the LVMH Prize would likely remain stronger due to its prestigious name and heritage. Nonetheless, it would be wonderful to see Vogue create something comparable!

Would you consider one day talking about the power/difference of merch on luxury. And what makes each specific to their level. I’ve heard merch is to “decorate”, all other fashion is to “create”. USA follower here. Thanks.

Kering not having a way to comunicate to young talents is very problematic for the long term of the group, we are seeing more of their brands competing on the same aesthetic/market which in the long term is all very fragile, if they don't invest on new talents for new types of market they will fall in 2030

Main problem for Kering is that they react - they never act. In that way all of their brands become a copy of the latest trends with a brand name on. Take Gucci. Gucci is unrecognizable lately. With the latest more minimalist take on Gucci, what makes it special? What makes it stand out?

But this “support” smacks of commercial opportunism to enrich the corporation.

True - but it's not at the expense of the designers. They aren't requiring that designers must drop their brands and work for LVMH when they call. What would be a better alternative? The support not existing would just make things even worse and there would be less opportunities for emerging designers to grow. I know people who could never afford a fashion education be put through school by LVMH.
