What is the optimal number of discus or Angelfish that you should consider buying? How many are too few (or too many)? How to prevent territorial disputes?
I was given around 11 juvenile silver angels that I put in my 55 gallon community tank. If all the juveniles grow up together will they be less aggressive as they reach adulthood or should I expect to have to remove some?
I hope mine don’t want to breed. Dear got I just rearranged the tank and it was an issue again because of height. I can’t imagine identifying the breeders vs the others once the net goes in. I bought a pool net due to height 😬 to help get things off the bottom ie the rocks I don’t like. Removed all the power heads and flow is minimal. Then I had an idea to put the lotus in a basket. What a mess because, again, I can’t reach the bottom so it tipped over and spilled my active substrate everywhere black on sand. 😕 I’ll fix it next water change. Always a challenge 😬
They will only start forming pairs once they reach about 1,5 years, and with wilds it can take even longer. I can imagine how hard it is to service a tank that tall! That lily should look gorgeous once it starts sending leaves to the surface!
Great video ! How many altums can I keep in a 80 gallon tank ? I will also like to get a group of corydoras . Tank will have a thin layer of sand and a couple of artificial roots.
Also how many adult angelfish in all can i put in an 80 gallon tank that i dont need to separate in the future..till now i have 4 juvenile of 7cm that are 3 marbles and 1 black...can i add more? I need them to still be here as there permanent home..
I have a 300 lts tank and put already 4 angelfish that are 3 marble and one black at 7cm big ..i wish i can add 2 more koi angels..also i have a breeding pair in an other tank..its ok like that im ready to breed angelfish..or i can put more in my 300 lts tank?
A lot depends on your filtration and water changes, but if all is well and you are removing breeding pairs to separate tanks, your tank should fit up to 10 regular angels (not altums or wild caught forms)
Yes, nowadays lots of juvenile wild Altums are imported from Colombia. Many are in miserable condition, so I'd suggest checking them in person before buying
I am switching my 2200L saltwater aquarium to fresh water, south american blackwater to be precise. I allways loved altum angels as a child and I want to have some in the new set up, how many would you recomend? I'll likely have around 300-500 red neons as well and maybe, not sure yet, some smaller stingrays as well.
You can have 50 Altums in your tank easily, but I would be careful with stingrays as they might go after altums, and perhaps will also try to snack on neons
@@tropicalfishhub 50? Might be a little bit much? In regards to the stingrays, they wouldn't be Leopoldi or Motoros but one of the smaller species like P. jabuti. I don't think they would go for an adult altum, neons maybe but that would likely be occasionally than regularly.
So in your opinion in a 450l like community tank (150x60x65) (with roots, plants, floating plants) and 40/45 rummy nose tetra according to your experience better 8 discus or maybe 10? I would like to get the most natural behaviors possible and I don't know if on the one hand 8 can be too few or if they are more than enough
When it comes to their behaviour, there isn't much of a difference between 8 and 10 discus. Depending on how often do you plan to do water changes, you can easily keep 10 discus in your tank.
I have 5 altum f1 (4 inches) in a 36 gallon tank (21 inches tall) and do 2 or 3 weekly water changes (1 20% and 2 10%). Could I continue to have them in the same tank or leave 3 and the other two pass them to a community with discus?. Thank you for you help👍👍
I'd say that your 36 gal is Ok as a grow out tank, but now it seems that your fish are big enough to be moved to a larger tank. Its better to move them all together rather than splitting up because you'll have more chances to have a pair with 5 of them

I currently have a group of 14 altums in a 600-liter aquarium, all of the same age and apparently I have a pair that has not yet laid eggs, but is defending a territory, I do not plan to breed but I do not have the space to separate the potential pair, is this behavior likely to calm down over time? as I understand the altums have breeding seasons

Do you have any experience keeping a solitary altum angelfish in a tank, perhaps with other peaceful/ compatible tank mates? I've seen conflicting opinions on whether they thrive in such a situation.
I have conditioned my breeding pair separately, keeping male in a tank by himself (with some plecos). He was doing great there for about a month. Altums become more territorial and aggressive towards their own kind as they age, so I think solo individuals should be absolutely fine on their own. However, I would not keep juveniles solo as they thrive in groups.
It depends on your filtration, whether you have plants and how many times you do water changes. if all of these are in order, then about 16-20 angels would go there easily.
So if I have 6 Angelfish with dominant and sub dominant fish in a 55, what to do with the least aggressive one that gets beat up?I have no hardscape so there are no territories

Oh man, all the wild angels I've had in the past were so scared of my hands pointing at them or gesturing around the tank. How long those fishes took to get used to you moving around and not hitting their noses on the glasses? How long do they live in your tanks?
